BACKGROUND There is a clear international interest in in-tensive business initiatives in the field of the agrifood value chain. This is enhanced by the great challenges of sustainable food for the population on the horizon 2050 and the con-vergence of technological advances that are useful for achieving this goal. Besides, the rural world is facing major threats such as depopulation, environmental degradation, or poor access of the population to education and technology. All these aspects can be addres-sed with the help of technological innovation.

In recent years, there have been numerous pu-blic initiatives in various areas (the Milan Expo 2015, the Fi-ware project, RIS3, the Agrotech project developed by the Government of Ex-tremadura, the Orizont accelerator developed by the Government of Navarra, etc.) and a considerable mobilization of private funding devoted to these business models -AgTech In-vesting Report – 2015 can be observed.

Previous editions of the Fair, Fimart 2014 and 2015, have sparked an interest in many com-panies and institutions thanks to its high level of specificity and its capacity to fill the exis-ting gap that it aspires to achieve.

Cordoba is an ideal place for becoming a refe-rence centre for innovation in the rural world and, more specifically, in the agrifood value chain thanks to:

• Its relevant generation of useful knowle-dge in the technological and business scientific environments (universities, pu-blic research organisations, technology centers, companies, etc.)

• The importance in terms of population, employment and GDP of its rural areas and, most particularly, of the agrifood va-lue chain sectors.

• The international dimension of the Cordo-van companies and institutions linked to the sectors involved.

AIMSTo create an environment of international reference in rural and agrifood innovation, combining public and private interests, that is sustainable in the medium and long term, in a large collective project that contributes to:

• Innovation in companies of the agrifood value chain, improving their overall com-petitive position and the international tra-de balance of the sectors concerned.

• The attraction of talent and investment in innovation and technology to be applied to the rural world in general and to the agri-food value chain sectors in particular.

• The generation of quality jobs and income in the sectors concerned.

What is FimartFIMART Innovation Fair Smart Rural presents technological solutions applicable to the rural world in general and, specifically, to compa-nies in the agrifood value chain in: advanced software, precision farming, sensoring, the Internet of things, bigdata and its application to business intelligence and artificial intelli-gence, unmanned flights, robotization, energy efficiency, etc.

The previous editions of Fimart have gathered more than 200 highly innovative companies in the abovementioned areas and over 100 spe-cialists of international relevance that, during two days and a half, have contributed knowle-dge, have exchanged views on the most topical issues in the Fimart field, and have established professional contacts aiming at enhancing in-

novation and technology transfer.

Likewise, cooperation meetings organized in collaboration with the Andalusian Agency of Knowledge have facilitated the establishment of agreements for technology transfer and innovation among more than 300 companies and research groups.

The third edition of this important event for innovation and te-chnology for the rural areas will be held on the 20, 21 and 22 October; it will have new contents and a wider scope:• Increased number of exhibitors.

• New thematic blocks in the technical ses-sions (technologies for water management. and point-of-sale technologies, along with the traditional blocks devoted to technologies for primary production, for the processing indus-try, the European vision and the financing of projects and companies of a high technologi-cal value).

• Increased attendance of international com-panies and speakers.

• Encouragement of innovative entrepreneu-rship thanks to the incorporation of the Fi-mart-Fund investors’ forum and Agrohacka-tón.

• Support for professional integration of Uni-versity graduates with a technical profile in the Job Corner.

• Previous programme of dissemination of the fair among farmers and agribusiness corpo-rations.

ExpoFimart:

• 100 exhibiting companies that are su-ppliers of technology to the rural world. An attendance of 20% of international com-panies.

Customers Forum:

• Business presentations and demonstra-tions.

Job Corner:

• Meeting point for suppliers and applicants of technology job opportunities.

Technical seminars:

• Incentivation policies to stimulate tech-nological innovation in the agrifood value chain.

• Technologies for companies in the agri-food value chain, for water management and for points-of-sale.

• Financing of innovative projects and com-panies.

TT days:

• Pre-arranged agendas for technology transfer.

FimartFund:

• Call for entrepreneurial projects. Previous preparation workshops for the partici-pants.

• Forum of investors in start-up agribusi-ness operations. Cooperation with acce-lerators that are consolidated at the Euro-pean level.

Agrohackatón:

• Competition for technological solutions to challenges proposed by the companies.

• 10 teams of developers.

Space available to companies and research groups making commercial presentations.

The presentations will have an estimated du-ration of 30 minutes. The sessions will be re-corded and those recordings made available to the companies.

Meeting point between suppliers and job see-kers in the field of application of technology to the rural world.

The companies will register the most sought after profiles, generating a catalog of profile demands that will be offered gratis to those attending Fimart. Since some of the bidding companies are also exhibitors in Expofimart, informal contacts between demanders and suppliers could be established.

Likewise, job seekers can register their aca-demic and professional profiles, which will be made available to companies.

* The contents or schedules are subject to minor modifications since the organizers are in the process of closing the program with speakers and chairpersons.

October 20TT dayPre-arranged bilateral meetings for the deve-lopment of innovative projects. The deman-ders and suppliers must have registered their entity, as well as their technological profile and specific demand or supply, before this TT day. The proposed meetings will be previously accepted by the participants.

October 22Fimart FundIt is a forum for investors in technologies for rural areas (agrotech).

It is a summons to private investors who wish to attend the presentation of projects and en-trepreneurs in the field of technologies for ru-ral areas.

Projects and initiatives will be received and evaluated beforehand, so that the most rele-vant initiatives can be presented in the inves-tors’ forum to be held in the framework of Fi-mart on the morning of the third day.

The promoters selected will be able to parti-cipate in previous workshops to improve their skills in presenting their projects.

AgrohackatónCompetition for the development of technolo-gical solutions responding to challenges offe-red by companies in the agrifood sector.

8 teams will participate with a maximum of 6 members per team. Participants, selected among the registered teams and coming from various Spanish universities and technology centers, must demonstrate basic knowledge as described in the contest rules. Participants will have a pre-training program and a travel bag to take part in the final stage of the com-petition. There will be prizes for the best so-lutions.

October 21Reverse mission|Work agenda with international buyers of te-chnology for the rural world. Arrangement of bilateral meetings.
