Android
There are two ways to connect to eduroam with an Android phone. With or without certificate. The
recommended is with certificate due to the higher security. It also prevents from false eduroam
network connections. (Man-in-the-middle attack).
Connect with certificate
If you connected without certificate earlier, you need to delete earlier sign-in first before you continue.
1. Start with installing the application EdruroamCat from Google Play. However, don´t open
the application.
2. When the installation is finished, open a web browser on your phone and download the
eduroam certificate at https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=595 .
3. The link takes you direct to the configuration file for
the University of Gothenburg. Control that the
information seems to be correct.
a. Preselected language is English.
b. Country – Sweden
c. Institution – University of Gothenburg
d. User group – GU eduroam
e. Installer – Your phones Android version.
4. If the information is correct, click the button, ”Do you
have an account….”
5. On the next page, you are informed that you need to
install the application from Google Play. If you didn`t
already do it in step 1, you must install it now before
proceeding. When the application is installed, click
Download installer, at the bottom of the page.
6. When the certificate is installed, open the Eduroam Cat application.

7. In the list, choose University of Gothenburg and Gu eduroam.
8. Install the configuration file by clicking, Install.
9. Confirm installation with Yes.

10. Fill in username ([email protected] or
[email protected]) and password.
11. Click Install.
12. When Status: CONNECTED to SSID ”eduroam”
appears at the bottom of the page, the installation is
finished. You should now have connection to eduroam.
From now on, always use the application when handling
eduroam connection. If you start using the phones Wi-Fi setting,
it easily develops problems. All other Wi-Fi network you
handle with your phone settings as usual.
Reconnect with application If you lose the internet connection and need to reconnect to
eduroam.
1. Open the Eduroam Cat application.
2. At the Status tab, click Reconnect.
Change profile If you changed your password or got a damaged profile.
1. Open the application and choose the Profile tab.
2. At the bottom right, click Remove profile
3. Go back to the Install tab.
4. Fill in username ([email protected] or [email protected]) and password.
5. Click Install.

Uninstall the Eduroam application 1. Open settings and then Apps.
2. In the search bar, start writing eduroam. Or search in the list of installed apps.
3. Choose Storage.

4. Select Clear data and Clear cache.
5. Go back one-step and Uninstall.

Connect without certificate
1. Open Settings.
2. Select Wi-Fi. Don´t forget to check if activated.
3. Click eduroam in the list over available networks.
4. Fill in username ([email protected] or [email protected])
and password.
5. Connect.

Connection error
Delete earlier sign-in If you try to connect to eduroam without certificate and filled in the wrong username or password or
want to remove earlier sing-in to be able to connect with certificate.
1. Select eduroam in the list with available networks.
2. Click Forget.
3. If you want to use eduroam without certificate, reconnect by clicking eduroam again.
4. Fill in username ([email protected] or [email protected]) and password.
Remove certificate If a certificate is obsolete or damaged it needs to be replaced. Android phone can have different
interface depending on manufacturer. The menu choice can therefore be a little different.
1. Open Settings.
2. Choose Security (alternatively Security and place)
3. Click Clear credentials.
4. Accept with Ok.

iPhone, iPad
Connect
1. Open Settings.
2. Select Wi-Fi and then eduroam in the
list over available networks. If missing,
keep reading under Configuration
Assistant Tool.
3. Connect with username
[email protected]) and password.
Connection error
Delete earlier sign-in
1. Open Settings.
2. Select Wi-Fi and eduroam.
3. Click Forget This Network.
4. Ok to confirm.
Remove profile
1. Open Settings.
2. Select General and then Profiles.
3. Click eduroam and choose Delete
profile.
4. Confirm that you want to remove profile.

Connect
1. Press Wi-Fi in the top menu.
2. In the list over available networks, click eduroam. If eduroam is missing, keep reading under
Configuration Assistant Tool.
3. If prompted, fill in your account name ([email protected] or gusaccount.gu.se) and password.
4. Then click Ok.

Connection error
Delete key change If you got the wrong password or username, you need to delete the post from the Key Change.
1. Open Utilities (Shift ⌘ U) or by the Go menu.
2. Select Keychain access
3. At the top right corner, start writing eduroam
4. Right click (Ctrl + right mouse button) eduroam in the list and choose Delete “eduroam”.
5. Reconnect by choose eduroam under Wi-Fi menu at the top right.
6. Sign-in with correct username ([email protected] or [email protected]) and password.
Delete earlier sign-in
1. Open - menu, System Preferences and Network.
2. Select Wi-Fi, and click Advanced.

3. At the Wi-Fi tab, select eduroam in the
list.
4. Click the minus sign, and then Ok.
Remove certificate If the certificate is obsolete or damaged, you need to remove it.
1. Open - menu, System Preferences and Profiles.
2. In the list, remove every
eduroam-profile by clicking the
minus sign.
3. Confirm with Remove, in the next
step.
4. If prompted, verify with your
xaccount and password.
If you followed every step above, all traces of eduroam is removed from your computer. To be able to
continue using eduroam, you need to reinstall it with the Configuration Assistant Tool.

Windows
Connect
1. At the bottom right of the screen, select the
network icon.
2. Select eduroam in the list over available networks
and click Connect. If eduroam is missing, keep
reading under Configuration Assistant Tool.
3. When prompted, sign-in whit username
([email protected] or [email protected]) and
password.
Connections error
If you get an error, reading “Can connect to the network”. It´s
probably due to an incorrect username or password.
1. Open Network & Internet settings.
2. In the left menu select Wi-Fi and then Manage
known networks.
3. Select eduroam and click Forget.
4. Go back to network, at the bottom of the screen.
5. Select eduroam and Connect.
6. Sign-in whit username ([email protected] or [email protected]) and password.

Configuration Assistant Tool
If you can´t find Eduroam in the list of available networks or missing a valid certificate, you need to
install it. Android phones also need to install an application. Follow the instructions for Android
above.
1. In a web browser, open the link: https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=595 The link takes you directly
to the configuration for the University of Gothenburg.
2. Select Gu eduroam under Select the user
group.
3. The page sense witch operations system

correct.
4. If everything looks ok, hit the download
button.
5. Select Run to begin the installation.
6. Control that you have the configuration file for the University of Gothenburg and select Next.
7. In the next step, confirm with Ok.

8. Fill in username ([email protected] or [email protected]) and password. Then click Install.
9. Click Finish to complete the installation.
10. The certificate is now installed on your unit, and eduroam configured.
11. Connect to eduroam by selecting it in the list over available Wi-Fi networks.
Sign-in errors
The most common error is to forget the @gu.se after the username. For both employees and
students at the University of Gothenburg, correct username is [email protected] or
[email protected]. This apply now matter were in the world you want to connect to
eduroam.
It sometimes happens that both the sing-in fields is gets wiped from information. It can happen
several times but mostly works the second time. As a rule you can say, no error messages, no
errors. Just try again.
