AWARDS BROCHUREGreat Contributions Deserve to Be Rewarded

Dear INMM Member: As you plan your participation in the 59th INMM Annual Meeting, I ask you to consider nominating one of your colleagues for an INMM Award. The Annual Meeting presents us with the exciting opportunity to recognize our colleagues for their contributions to the nuclear materials management community. There is a diversity of recognition options for both Institute members and non-members, early career professionals and long-serving experts, and organizations. There is also a mechanism for honoring recently deceased members who have served the INMM with distinction. This brochure provides an introduction to the program and the information you need to prepare a nomination package. The INMM’s Awards and Recognition Program includes the following:

• Vincent J. DeVito Distinguished Service Award (DSA)• Edway R. Johnson Meritorious Service Award (MSA)• Charles E. Pietri Special Service Award (SSA)• Early Career Award• Resolutions of Respect (RoR)

Who Can NominateAnyone can make a nomination. The Institute generally depends on its members, technical divisions and chapters, but non-members may also make nominations. Candidates are those in the INMM and nuclear materials management community who you admire and who have made significant contributions to the Institute or our profession. We encourage diversity in the awardees and to reach that goal, we depend on our partners in all fields of nuclear materials management around the globe to participate in the process.

Special Teleconference to Answer Awards QuestionsLet me take this opportunity to thank those men and women who have taken the responsibility in the past to nominate a colleague or peer for an INMM award. Without the nominators who take on the task of preparing nomination packages, there would be no Awards and Recognition Program. To help nominators this year, the Awards Committee is planning a special teleconference to answer questions about the process. The teleconference will be held February 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. Eastern time. This time and date is chosen for maximum attendance; if you plan to make a nomination and areunable to attend the teleconference, I encourage you to contact me so that I can answer any questions you might have.

Preparing Your NominationThis brochure includes all the information you need to prepare a nomination, including the award guidelines, the required nomination information, and the nomination form. We also provide a list of past winners to demonstrate the caliber of the recipients. When making a nomination, please be sure to include sufficient information so that the nomination package stands on its own and does not require prior knowledge of the candidate. Remember that although the nuclear materials management community is relatively small, the Awards Committee and the Executive Committee members do not know everyone. These committees do their best to be independent and ensure that awards are only given to the most deserving candidates, and therefore, they rely on the content of the nomination package to validate the award.

Sincerely,Susan Pepper, Chair, Awards Oversight Committee

The 2018 awards and Resolutions of Respect will be presented at the INMM Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, July 22-26, 2018. To give us time to complete the selection process, we require award nominations be submitted to INMM Headquarters at [email protected] no later than April 2, 2018. Late submissions are not accepted. Once the Awards Committee does its work and Executive Committee approval is obtained, the Awards Committee will notify the nominators of the results sometime in May and prepare for the July Annual Meeting presentations. We ask that the nominations remain strictly private so that the recipients are surprised at the awards presentation.

Finally, the Awards Committee welcomes three new members this year: Michele Smith, Larry Satkowiak and Andreas Enqvist. I look forward to working with them, but I also would like to thank Denny Mangan for his many years of service to the Awards Committee. We appreciate his commitment to the committee and the INMM.
