Block Assembly 1. Using Template A and Template B and using your favorite method for paper piecing, make twenty-four C/B/A Template A units (Fig. 1)
and twenty-four F/B/G Template B units (Fig. 2). 2. Sew one 3” x 4 ½” Fabric C strip to each side of one C/B/A Template A unit to make one C/B/A side strip (Fig. 3). 3. Place one 3 ½” Fabric D square on the left side of one C/B/A side strip , right sides together (Fig. 4). Sew across the diagonal of the
square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 4). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 5). Trim away the ex-cess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance.
4. Place another 3 ½” Fabric D square on the right side of the C/B/A side strip, right sides together (Fig. 5). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 5). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 6). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance to complete one side block.
5. Repeat Steps 3-4 to make twenty-four side blocks total. 6. Sew one 3” x 4 ½” Fabric F strip to each side of one F/B/G Template B unit to
make one F/B/G top/bottom strip (Fig. 7). 7. Repeat Steps 3-4 using twenty-four F/B/G top/bottom strip and forty-eight 3 ½”
Fabric E squares to make twenty-four top/bottom blocks total (Fig. 8). 8. Place 4 7/8” Fabric D square on top of one 4 7/8” Fabric E square, right sides
together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 9). Sew 1/4” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 9). Cut the two squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 9) to make two large D/E units (Fig. 9). Trim blocks to measure 4 ½” squares. Repeat to make forty-eight large D/E units total.
9. Repeat Step 8 using twenty-four 3 7/8” Fabric D squares and twenty-four 3 7/8” Fabric E squares to make forty-eight small 3 ½” D/E squares total (Fig. 10).
10. Sew one Fabric C triangle, two Fabric K triangles and one Fabric L triangle together to make one 3 ½” C/K/L unit (Fig. 11). Repeat to make twelve C/K/L units total.
11. Repeat Step 9 using twelve Fabric C triangles, twenty-four Fabric I triangles and twelve Fabric L triangles to make twelve C/I/L units total (Fig. 12).
12. Repeat Step 9 using twelve Fabric E triangles, twelve Fabric F triangles and twenty-four Fabric H triangles to make twelve E/H/F units total (Fig. 13).
13. Repeat Step 9 using twelve Fabric E triangles, twelve Fabric F triangles and twenty-four Fabric J triangles to make twelve E/J/F units total (Fig. 14).
14. Repeat Step 9 using twenty-four Fabric E triangles and twenty-four Fabric L triangles to make twelve E/L units total (Fig. 15).
15. Follow Figure 16 to sew four 3 ½” small D/E small squares and one of each of the five quarter-square triangle from Steps 10-14 to make one center block. Repeat to make twelve center blocks.
16. Follow Figure 17 to sew four large 4 ½” D/E units, one center block, two side blocks and two top/bottom blocks together to make one 17 ½” Block One. Repeat to make twelve Block Ones.
