Our plan is to produce a documentary on fears, we have chosen fears because it is a captivating topic which people would find interesting and tune in to watch. We have decided to call this documentary Now Fear This, playing on the phrase ‘Now hear this’.

The documentary will be a mixed documentary which allows lots of editing techniques and tools, as the fears will vary with different people. The documentary will be multi strand and focused on many different people with many different fears.

Throughout the documentary, there will be a countdown of the top 5 most common fears and this will explain how some people developed the fear and how others have overcome them including conditioned and unusual fears.

Target AudienceOur target audience for this documentary will be 18-30 year olds as it is the target audience for Channel 4. As the topic would be liable to air on Channel 4, we believe that the same target audience would be best. Our topic is one which is interesting for teenagers and people intrigued in unusual aspects in life, particularly fears. The topic will engage audiences who are interested in how fears develop and what the most common fears are. The target audience will be broad as everyone can relate to the topic and gives them a sense of satisfaction within the countdown.

ChannelWe have decided to broadcast our documentary on Channel 4 as it has a large proportion of documentaries shown; our target audience of teenagers are also more likely to watch Channel 4 due to the documentaries and programmes broadcasted on this channel. Other documentaries have been aired on this channel which have a similar vibe such as ‘Psychopath Night’ which also includes a countdown to engage the audience and a similar style of editing.

SchedulingWe have decided to broadcast our documentary at watershed times such as at 9pm. This is when most teenagers and adults watch TV; this programme may be considered inappropriate for children as the content of the documentary may scare them. An appropriate day to broadcast this programme would be on a Monday, due to similar programmes being shown on this particular day.
