Media Studies – Music Magazine

Overall Plan

• Name ideas:

‘Diverse’. My music magazine features varied genres of music, and diverse is another word for varied. Also, Diverse has the word verse in it, which is a musical term.

• Positioning Statement ideas:

‘Got no preference? Neither do we’. This directly addresses the reader through a question, and connects with them by the word ‘we’.

• Price: £2.50 – it is not too expensive for a magazine,

meaning people would be more likely to buy it, however also not to cheap in which to suggest it is not worth much.

• Distribution:To be sold in the UK in local newsagents such as

WH Smith and supermarkets like Sainsburys.• Rationale: The aim of my magazine is to provide a magazine

for everyone. It will fill a gap in the market, as it will be varied and have no set genre, and there are no or little magazines in the market that are aimed towards everyone.

• Style:

My magazine will be quite formal and sophisticated, however it will have some casual features.

• Regular content:

Letters, reviews and requests. Requests allow the readers to have a say about what is in the magazine.

• Feature content:

Interview with the cover model, editorial, and other musicians (classical, rock and acoustic).

• House Style:

I have not fully decided on the house style, however it will most likely be the typical magazine conventions of black, white and red, and another colour, perhaps gold, for accentuation.

EDIT – I have decided on black, white, navy/dark blue and red, although this may change.

• Layout Plan:

Below are the very first rough sketches I made to illustrate early ideas on the layout of my front cover, contents page and double page spread.
