The purpose of film magazines is to target people interested in the film industry and films in general. They exist to

educate people on how the process of film making looks like (preproduction, production and postproduction) and to

teach them facts about films.Film magazines are also a part of the marketing process as they are a good place to situate film posters before the film is released to inform the reader about the movie and also

when it is coming out.

Magazine covers attract the audience because they provide them with a insight into the film and let them see exclusive details for example behind the scenes and interviews. The attraction differs than that of the film because magazines

are able to access a variety of people so the target audience is far wider.

MAIN IMAGE

The main image tends to be a mid shot or a long shot of the character on a plain background so the audience will not get distracted. The character also

usually directly gazes to attract the audience

The main image is also usually a photo which links to the featured article as that is what helps the magazine sell.

MAST HEAD

The mast head tends to be in a different font from the rest. This is done so that it stands out from everything else.

The mast head also helps the audience distinguish what the name of the magazine is quickly.

FEATURE ARTICLE

The feature article is usually based on the main image of the magazine as it is usually a picture of the person related to the article.

COVER LINES

Magazines use cover lines to shows what the other articles in the magazine are about without the reader having to open it and look through. This makes it easier for the reader as everything is on the cover so they have a flavour of the whole magazine.

- Most magazines have very similar conventions such as the main image being related to the feature article.

However a difference is the gaze, some magazines use direct gaze whereas other don’t, this depends on the

effect the magazine is trying to create.- The colour palettes are the same as each magazine usually uses only two or three different colours, the only

thing that does vary is the combinations of colours.- Some magazines have a very minimum amount of text on

the cover and some have a lot more.
