work, such as basic webpage layouts. The audience that I considered for this were people that read the financial times, work in the industry, men and women aged 35+.

Page 2: Initial Boards

BreakdownThe project started with a financial company called Arentum, I started to think about initial idea’s and development. Then I decided to change the name a few times, to see what fit. Surters was the chosen name and I set about to develop the brand more. To develop I like to layout logo’s on lots of different boards within one

document and see what works. Above are some pictures of the development work I did for the branding.

Page 3: Initial Boards

DeliverablesI designed a range of deliverables for this project ranging from printed media to digital. When I initally started this project I was going to produce the annual report with it so my set of stationary is limited because of the change.

Website - 800px x 600px For the website, I tried to develop something that was professional and engaging to tell the user about the company mainly. The idea is that the vertical bars in the top half act as main content area, and they slide along depending on which part of the website the user navigates to.

Business Cards - 55mm x 85mm 400gsm matteI wanted to create simple business cards that were corporate and clean. I used white and different shades of grey’s as the colours and sans serif typeface for the body text. The print process on the Surters logo is foil blocking, and this is shown in the context photography.

Page 4: Initial Boards

Letterhead - 210mm x 297mm 135gsm matteWith this I tried to take on the same idea as the business card. I wanted to keep it simple and clean. Centering the address and then having two columns for the email and phone number is how I went about this. For the back of the letterhead it would be a solid grey with a UV spot varnish of the Surters logo in reverse.

Compliment Slip - 210mm x 100mm 135gsm matteAs a compliment slip it stayed in the same style as the rest of the brand. The only difference with this slip is that I decided not to put “With Compliments” on it so that the user could add whatever they wanted. Also if this went to print I would have it printed as a pad so that it could be used for notes as necessary.

CD StickerSomething bold and clean using the colours of the brand. It is the company logo printed bigger on top of the CD. I decided to do this so that the CD specifically couldn’t be written on and the CD case would have the information on it.

CD Case - 297mm x 135mm 135gsm matte A simple case printed on to matte paper. It is a simple sleeve to contain a CD.

restaurantThe PlanThis is an old ISTD brief where I had to brand a restaurant with a typographic style. So I wanted to deliver mainly printed media, but I also explored some digital solutions too. restaurantThe logoI started to look in to the brief and think about what I could do for a logo. I saw that the brief referenced “Mutton Quad” and looked it up and it is a measurement for typography. It’s known as a em-dash. So based on this I started to develop idea’s for the logo. I started with the typeface, thinking about how I wanted the restaurant to

look. Then with the em measurement in mind I thought about composition. Then with the basic style of logo decided, I looked at colour and final touches. I chose this logo because I would be able to incorporate it on any media e.g. as shown on the left on this board.

Page 8: Initial Boards

restaurantLetterhead - 210mm x 297mm 135gsm matteThe letterhead is clean and simple, and I wanted it to look as professional as possible. For the back of the letterhead I have the red stripe running down the same side as the logo is on. Right aligned text down the line of the right side of the logo to keep it clean.

Menu - 297mm x 420 270gsm matteThe menu is A3 printed on both sides. I used the food and prices off other menu’s as an example. Again the red stripe coming off the logo is there to incorporate the logo on to the page more.

Business Card - 55mm x 85mm 400gsm matteRed on one side with the content on the other, I wanted to create a simple design that would give the necessary information and nothing more.

Receipt/ReservedFor the receipt I layed out an example of what it would be like the stock would be the same as the letterhead, 135gms matte paper white. As for the reserved signs, they are small and have two folds on the ends so that they can stand up like mini tables. Again printed on to the same stock as the letterhead.

restaurantRestaurant branding contextAs part of one of my mini briefs I did some branding for an interior design student. In return he designed me the interior and exterior of a restaurant with my branding incorporated in that. I am pleased with the outcome and it is good context to show an example of the restaurant. The key part of the restaurant is the red stripe which is a

strong colour and is relevant to the brand. The exterior of the restaurant would have a glass window/entrance as highlighted in the first picture. The logo and a menu would be placed next to the door also.

Page 11: Initial Boards

The PlanThis project was given to me by a friend doing a computer science course. He is designing an app for the andriod platform and he asked me if I could give him some idea’s for a style. I then took the project and turn it in to a full branding and identity project. The company send parcels like Fedex or UPS. The app is a way to track parcels

SummaryThink of more things to put here.quickly while you are out and about. So with this in mind

I set about to create a brand suitable for this. Once I had determinted my deliverables I started to work on the designs.

PharosParcel

Page 13: Initial Boards

Initial Logo Idea’s and DevelopmentI looked at the old Pharos Parcel logo and initially started with looking at doing something similar to that. However I wasn’t happy with my designs and I moved on to the idea of a box. Obvious, but I think it turned out well. So I looked at different colours but in the end decided to stick with the original company colours,

and use orange. To make it a little different on different formats aswell, I also take the box icon design and make it smaller and add some depth to them. Examples of that are on other boards.

Page 14: Initial Boards

The AppThis is the design for the app. It has 6 features in it. And I have designed 3 versions so they would all work across the OSX platform and Andriod. The 6 main features are - Tracking a parcel, Getting a quote to send a parcel, Contacting the Pharos Team, Getting News and Updates, Getting Help with orders or related matters and being

able to organise sending a parcel and getting the labels etc. I decided to stick with the company colours. I had to keep it simple because of the size restrictions of the designs.

Page 15: Initial Boards

Letterhead - 210mm x 297mm 135gsm matteThe letterhead incorporates the 3 box logo which I put together to give the logo a bit more depth when it is on the page. Because of the bigger than normal logo at the top I decided that the address and such at the bottom was the best decision. Also with the orange back it makes it stand out when placed on a table.

Business Card - 55mm x 85mm 135gsm matteSimple white business card with the logo on the front and then the content on the other side. I used the same colours as the type in the logo for the content (Grey/Orange) to keep it consistant.

Compliment Slip - 105mm x 210mm 135gsm matteThe compliment slip is the same as the letterhead but it has a border around it. I did this so that it fit in with the orange back. It seemed to make it more consistant.

InvoiceI layed out an example of an invoice that would be sent out to a customer in one of the envelopes that I photgraphed on another board. Again sticking with the same colours to keep it consistant.

WebsiteThe website promotes the app and also allows customers to look at more information. The webside of this project wasn’t a big part of the project but here are a couple development pictures, and the final website promoting the new release of the app. The website would fit to a 800px x 600px size which would allow access from

all screen sizes including mobile phones. This was an important consideration in the design.

The PlanThis is my competition brief and its to rebrand ISTD. It asked to look at a strategy of how it could be used across a range of matter that they publish. My solution to this was to design a new typeface and use it in the logo. The typeface would have a range of weights as well as being a serif and sans serif typeface.

Branding intital ideasAfter I designed the typeface in the way that I wanted, I set about with the logo trying to make a stong brand for ISTD. I looked in to old letterpress and tried to incorporate some of that in to the design. In the end I kept it simple and added some colour in to it because of ISTD’s current logo.

Typeface DevelopmentAs my solution to the brief I wanted to create a typeface for ISTD that would mean they had a branding prescence across a broad range of media not only from their logo.. I took inspiration from Gill Sans and Rockwell. I basically started with 3 shapes that make up most of the letters, and then moved paths around to make them work. The

case typeface I developed to be a bit more snazzy. Above are just initial idea’s and the grid that I ended up with after making everything line up.

Type Posters LowercaseFor the lowercase typeface, once I had finished developing it, I put it on to a poster to promote it. I only developed the main character set at present because doing the upper and lowercase set took so long. The character set is something that I plan to complete soon.

The PlanCreate an annual report for a company. This was the second half of the first brief that I did. I decided to create an annaul report for a big company but to try and make it in to an infographic more than a stereotypical annual report because so many companies make annual reports digital these days. The final brief that I changed

SummaryThink of something to put in here.

SummaryThink of more things to put here.was to create a annaul report for shareholders to get

the highlights of the information that they want. Basically to give people who weren’t in to stocks and shares much the highlights without having to spoon through the dense text.

Page 26: Initial Boards

Initial thoughtsThe intial idea’s for this were to create a strong set of visuals and stick to the A4 format and make it in to a book. However through development and idea’s I decided that making the annual report fit on to a 210mm x 841mm almost banner size piece of paper would make it look like an infographic and be a fun format. It would

Page 28: Initial Boards

Final Visuals The visuals above are the final idea’s for the information on a A4 format. From here I can put them on to a 210mm wide 841mm long banner piece of paper and it will look more like an infographic. This also allows me to create it as a PDF and as a JPEG and make it digital so that people can download the file and read it as a infographic style
