Dear Worldwideans,

Season’s Greetings!

We have been doing brisk business with various US destinations, for TCP, AEO, Gerber, etc.

There has been a marked increase in the tonnage during last couple of months.

Also, we managed to get better airfreight rates with few airlines for the next couple of

months (EK, QR, LH & Aeroflot) for Delhi, Chennai and Cochin. Lot of cargo is moving from

Tirupur/Cochin thru Bengaluru, so BLR station is becoming an important zone. BLR has to

now take the lead to move forward and get good pricing from the airlines. Similarly,

Mumbai should work closely with Delhi to get the best rates.

The competition has been cut throat and the shippers like Kitex & JJ Mills were aggressive to

renegotiate the freight rates. With lot of hardwork, we managed to hold the customers with

us.

WWL’s latest brainchild, Worldwide Transport Solutions has started its operations from

Bengaluru. I congratulate Mr Rajamani and his team and wish them the very best in

capturing this new market. May it spread wings all through India, like its parent, and bring

prosperity to all of us.

Several cities in India, especially Chennai, have been reeling under severe water shortage due

to dry monsoon and due to other man-made reasons. This has been getting attention

globally. Let us pray for the current monsoon season to bring the much awaited relief to all.

I congratulate all those who got their increments and promotion this year and wish them all

to work smart and be proactive.

Best wishes,

Bala

Shipping a container has been a complex process for many years. Manual and in-efficient, the

buying and booking process has been often full of surprises. With the launch of Maersk Spot,

Maersk aims to introduce a truly online product that can break the cycle of overbookings and

offer a much simpler way to ship a container with load guarantee.

To further promote ease of doing business with Hapag-Lloyd, its Chennai office has initiated

electronic filing of Shipping Bill (e-SB) through the Export General Manifest (EGM) module of the

online portal ODeX. This platform is free of charge and has several benefits:

* Linkage with eForm 13 and eVGM module for smoother workflow

* ODeX provides the option of uploading the Shipping Bill EDI, eliminating data entry errors

* Simplified GST refund procedure due to errorless EGM data

* Provides a single platform for attaching and storing documents such as Shipping Bill/EIR/Tally

sheet or stuffing report

* Customers are no longer required to visit surveyors’ office to submit the hard copy of the

Shipping Bill

Lufthansa Cargo is now offering its customers wide-ranging, digital cargo acceptance and

delivery services as part of its eFreight initiative. Valuable time can be saved through the use of

self-service terminals and related apps for mobile devices as well as the digital transfer of

shipment data and status updates between the airline and customers. Before delivery, the

PreCheck service verifies the completeness and consistency of the data transferred. This further

boosts data quality, significantly reduces laborious and time-consuming corrections during cargo

acceptance and can even help to prevent returns, informed a release.

Freightos has recently launched a new online pricing and booking portal for airfreight as the

digitisation of the sector continues to gather pace. The free WebCargo Sky platform is available

to IATA certified airfreight forwarders and as well as offering instant pricing from more than 370

MAERSK is aiming to reduce its reliance on shipping for its income within “a couple of years”,

according to chief executive Søren Skou. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Mr Skou

said the world’s biggest commercial shipping operator would focus more on inland logistics, with

plans to buy warehouses, container terminals and customs brokerage firms.

“Today, up to 80% of our earnings comes from container shipping,” he told the newspaper.

“Hopefully a couple of years from now, we will be much closer to a 50:50 scenario between ocean

and non-ocean services.”

According to Cargolux, they are the only cargo carrier to offer a direct main deck connection

between Europe and Indonesia. This position, coupled with the company’s fleet of 747 freighters,
