ThedevelopmentsintheArabiccountriesstillabsorbus.InSyriaandYementheprotestshavebroadened,inLybiacivilwarcontinues.Nobodycanforeseewherethisstormislead-ingthesecountries.

Asweallknow,theArabiancoun-triesarecoremarketsoftheDorschGruppe,thatiswhywearenotsparedfromtheunrestintheArabianWorld.

Ofcourse,wehavehadsomelosings.Buttheselossesarenotthatgrave,theycaneasilybebolsteredbythecompanygroup,andtherefore,weneednotcorrectanyplansfor20��.

Wearegoingtocontinuegrowingandtocoverevenmorewhiteblotsonthemapofourcoreregions.OurexpansionwillcontinueespeciallyintheArabianWorld.WeareplanningprojectsinQatar,OmanandKuwait.

Ournetworkalsoexpandsontheedges.TheBDCcolleaguesarecur-rentlyinBrasil,inordertoacquireprojects.

Additionally,DCAsiahasstartedmov-inginVietnam.Youwillreadinthisnewsletterthatwehaveagainwonnationalandinternationalbids.

Forinstance,theDorschGruppeissupportingtheGIZwiththeimple-mentationofthewaterandsewageinfrastructureinSimbabwe,DCAsiawillpresentaveryinterestingpipe-lineproject,andyouwillbeabletoreadabouttheAbuDhabicolleagues‘masterplanforthesatellitetowninAlAinintheArabianEmirates.

ThisprojectisveryimportantfortheDorschGroupandisappreciatedasbeaconproject,sincethismasterplanrequiresourgreenbuildingexperts‘competence.

Butwehavenotonlywoninterestingprojectsabroad.TheBDCcolleagueshavejustpresentedthepreliminarydesignofthestationsurroundingsinCottbustothelocalauthorities.

Mr.RieneckerinformsyouaboutchangesinDI‘sHumanResources.Newcolleagueshaveentered,whowewouldliketointroduce,thetaskscopeofothercolleagueshasbroadenedorchanged.

Thisyear,wewererepeatedlyamongthealmost73,000startersfrommorethan2,700companieswhostartedinthe�2thJ.P.MorganChaseChal-lenge,aracetrackwhichledover5.6kilometresthroughtheFrankfurtcitycentre.

Inspiteofsomelast-minutecancel-lations,wecouldgetateamofeightrunnersplusateamofsupportersgoing.

Thechallenge’smainfocusisnotsomuchonaminimumtime,butonvaluessuchasteamspirit,commu-nication,colleagueship,fairnessandhealth.Andtherunshouldbefunaswell.

Building Inspection According to DIN 1076 Standards

InApril20��Dr.ReginaJenny-WölferhasattendedaFIBcourseaboutbuildinginspectionaccordingtoDIN�076andpassedtheexam.Withhercertificatewearenowabletoexpandourservicesinthefieldofplanningforstructuralframeworks.Wearenowauthorisedtoexamineactualsituationsofbridges,theirstabilityandthetrafficrelatedutili-zation.TheDeutscheBahn(GermanFederalRailways)willjoinDIN�076standardslargely.

Thethree-partcoursehasgivenjudicialandtechnicalbasisaswellasaninsightviewtothecostac-counting.Thevehicleandequipmentmanagementplayedanimportantroleaswellastheorganizationandtheaccidentprevention.Thefieldregistrationandevaluationoffaultsisdealingwithquestionssuchashowcriticalafissurereallyis;orwhenabuildingreallyfalls.Faultsareclas-sifiedandthepotentialofdangerisevaluated.Infuturewewillworkontogetprojectsinthefieldofbuildingexaminationinconstructionalengineeringandcivilengineering.

Mr.Goertz,manageroftheDI‘sWaterandEnvironmentdivision,representedtheDorschGruppewithaboothandinformationmaterialinAugsburg.

OurinformationarousedparticularinterestintheAlbaniandelegation,especiallythefieldsofdrinkingwaterabstractionandsewagetreatment.

Sincetheknowl-edgeaboutpos-sibledamagesisofgreatvaluefornew-andre-planningtoo,wewillgetafootstepintothemarketof

analysisofdamages,evaluationandrestoration.

Frequencyofdamagesonadminis-trationbuildings,schools,hospitalsorothergovernmentbuildingsincreases.Furthermorethereisahighdemandforrehabilitationinthefieldofwaterengineeringandsanitaryenvironmentalengineeringandtheassociateddemandforclassifyingofdamages.

Butthe„EnergieverbandfürWärme,KälteundKWKe.V.“(EnergyAsso-ciationforHeat,ColdandKWK)hasreleasedguidelinesforexaminationofbuildingconstructionforcom-munityheatingtoo,otherenergyproviderwillfollow.LastbutnoleasttheabilitytobuildingexaminationtoDIN�076isneededatVOF-proceed-ingsfrequently.Concerning§3sec-tion�ofmodelbuildingregulationsbuildingsaretobemaintainedthatpublicsafetyespeciallylive,healthandthenaturallivingbasisarenotjeopardized.

WeallcongratulateDr.Jenny-Wölfertohercertificateandwearecon-fidentwiththeextensionofourserviceportfoliowehavelaidthefoundationstoneforourfurthergrowingandtoanincreasingcustomersatisfaction.

Althoughtherearesufficientdrink-ingwatersourcesinAlbania,anincessantandreliabledrinkingwatersupplycannotalwaysbeguaranteednowadaysbecauseofalossratioof70%inthewatersupplysystem.

Themainpartofagriculturalandpersonalhouseholdsewageisstilldischargedintoriversandinlandwateruntreatedly.Thus,awellworkingwatersupplyhastopprior-ityinAlbania.Eveninternationallyfinancedprojectshaverecentlybeenconcernedwiththisproblem.

EspeciallyBavariancompaniescancontributetotheseprojectsbecauseoftheirexpertiseindrinkingandsewagewatertreatment.Inthecourseoftheinternationaladvancedtrainingprogram“Bavaria–FitforPartnership”adelegationof�5ex-ecutivesofAlbania’swatereconomy

Inaddition,selectedstaffofvari-ousBrasilianinstitutionsandlocalauthorities,butalsoGemanstaffmembersaretobeinstructedonthetopic.

ThepubliccleansingserviceandthewastedisposalinMogiMirimareundertheresponsibilityofthecitycouncil.However,theenvironmental-lysounddisposaloftheaccumulatedwastehasmoreandmorebecomeaproblemforthemunicipality-aswellasthewholecountry.

Anenvironmentallyfriendly,eco-nomicandsustainedsolution,whichtakesintoaccountthelegalprovi-sions,requiresacooperationofthecityofMogiMirim,thesurroundingmunicipalitiesthefederalauthoritiesandalsothelocalindustry.

Tothiseffectwehadseveralimpor-tantmeetingswithrepresentativesofthefederalstateSãoPaulo.Inthe�8-million-peoplemetropoleSãoPaulowehadmeetingswithBrunoCovas,theMinisterofEnvironment,JoséAníbal,theEnergyMinisterandwithDilmaPena,CEOofSabesb,thefederalstate‘swatersupplyandsewagetreatmentcompany,whichisinterestedintheprojectasapossibleoperatingcompanyofthefutureplant.

Thisvisithaditsoriginintheout-comeofajourneyofaneconomicdelegationofthefederalstateMecklenburg-VorpommernleadbyProfessorWolfgangMethling,formerMinisterforEnvironment.

Thepurposeofthevisitwastocon-firmwithourBrasilianpartnersourseriousintentiontoengageourselvesintheforthcomingprojectsinthisgrowthmarket.

ThemeetingsheldduringthisjourneypreparedthedevelopmentofasustainedwastemanagementconceptforthecityofMogiMirim

inthefederalstateSãoPaulotakingwasteseparation,refuseutilisationandenergyextractionintoaccount.

Thetargetwasthedevelopmentofawastetreatmentplantwhichaccordstothestate-of-the-artofscienceandtechnology,especiallyGermantech-nology,andwhichcanbebuiltandoperatedforseveralmiddle-sizedtownsoftheregionresp.thefederalstate.

Allthreemeetingstookplaceaccompanied,amongothers,byCarlosNelsonBueno,themayorofMogiMirim,hisrepresentativeGersonLuizRossiJunior,aswellasthemayorofthecityofConchal,OrlandoCaleffiJuniorwhoistherepresentativeofCONSABatthesametime,whichisanassociationofsixcitiesnearMogiMirim.

Before,thiscirclehadhadaprepara-torymeetingwiththeDorschdelega-tioninthechamberofforeigntradebuilding.

WehadfurtherappointmentsintheGerman-Brasilianchamberofindustryandcommerce,theGermanscienceandinnovationhouse,andwithJNSLTDA,apotentialBrasilianpartner,whohasforgedcontactswiththeUniversityofSãoPaulo.

Aftertheappointments,wecontin-uedourjourneytoMogiMiriminordertohavemeetingswiththelocalrepresentatives.

Inanoldrefurbishedstationacer-emonytookplaceinwhichwesignedamutualdeclarationofintentforourfuturecooperationinfrontof�50viewers,representativesofthesurroundingmunicipalitiesandthepress(printandTV).

TheessenceofthedeclarationisourpromisetopresentadraftwithintwomonthstotheBrasiliansforfurtheradjustments,whichwillthenleadtofurthersteps.

Asahighlightoftheeventtherepresentativesofbothcountriesexchangedpresentsoftheirhomecountries.

ThechildrenandyouthorchestraofMogiMirim“BandaLyra“playedasophisticatedconcertassupportingprogrammewhichhadanaudienceof200peopleandwhichwewereinvitedtoasguestsofhonour.

offeredthedirectoroftheorchestra,CarlosLima,tolookforpossibilitiesoffinanciallysupportingthesocialworkoftheorchestra,asitoftenlacksmon-eyforinstrumentsandequipment.

DirkNiebel,theGermanFederalMinisterforDevelopment,visitedthePalestinianGazaStriponJune�5th20��.

Amongotherlocalmeetingsandvisits,thedelegationalsorequiredinformationabouttheDevelopmentLoanCorporation-fundedDCCairoproject“SewageTreatmentandTreatmentPlantGaza“,whichhasbeenlaunchedafewmonthsagoafterseveralyearsofintensivepreparations.

BesidestheregionaldirectoroftheKfWMarcEngelhardt,RiyadSalem,DorschGazaprojectcoordinator,andDr.HusamEl-NajjaroftheDorschGazasupervisionteamalsotookpartinvisitingtheprojectsite.

TheGazaStriphasthreewatertreatmentplantsatthemoment,buttheircapacityisnotenoughforapprox.�.6millioninhabitants.

Manyhouseholdshavenotyetbeenconnectedtothedilapidatedsewersystem.

SewerageisbeingdischargedintotheMediterraneanSeaortheyseepawayintothegroundwater,whichhasfatalconsequencesforthedrink-ingwatersituationinGaza.Thebadhygienicconditionsincreasinglycauseillnesses.

Afterlongnegotiations,theIsraeligovernmenthasalsobeenconvincedoftheadvantagesforthewholeregion,especiallybyimpedingthedischargeofsewerageintotheseaorthegroundwater,andisnowgener-allysupportingtheproject.

ThesewageprojectGazaconsistsoftwoperiods.

Tillthemiddleof20�2,thecapac-ityoftheexistingwatertreatmentplantsistobeextended,anewsew-agepumpingstationistobebuiltinthecityofGaza,andafewsludgedryingbasinsaretobeinstallednearBurej.

HalfoftheGazaStrip’spopulationwillalreadyprofitfromthisfirstprojectperiod.

Inthesecondperiod,anewgreatwatertreatmentplantistobebuiltinEastBurejby20�4toprovidecapacityforthenext20years.

TheformerbranchmanagerUdoKachelhaspassedontheAmman/Jordansubsidiary’sman-agementtoJörgStruss.

KachelwillnowmanageaKfW-projectinDamascus/Syria,buthisexpertiseandbranchcompetencewillstillbeatabackandcallforus.

JörgStrusshasstudiedgeologyattheFreieUniversitätBerlinandisnotonlywellgroundedinthefieldsofwatersupply,wastewater,andsanitaryfacilitiesbutalsoinprojectmanagementandinthecommercialfield.

InFebruary,MichaelBaderhasalreadyfilledtheposi-tionoftheCom-mercialManag-erinourbranchAmman.

ThePearlRatingSystemisorganizedintosevencategoriesthatarefunda-mentaltomoresustainabledevelop-ment.Withineachsectiontherearebothmandatoryandoptionalcreditsandcreditpointsareawardedforeachoptionalcreditachieved.Toachievea�Pearlrating,alltheman-datorycreditrequirementsmustbemet.ToachieveahigherPearlrating,allthemandatorycreditrequire-mentsmustbemetalongwithanumberofadditionalcreditpoints.

AlongthefootofmountJebelHafeet,AbuDhabi’sonlymountain,theEmiratiHousingDevelopment(EHD)willbedeveloped,asatellitetownofAlAin.

ComprehensivearchaeologicalfindingsprovethatthecityAlAinaswellasthe�2kmregioninthesouthofAlAinJebelHafeethasbeensettledintheBronzeAgealready.

AlAinhasalwaysbeentheculturalandhistoricalheartoftheUAE.Asanoasiscityitwasarefugefortravellersandbecameanagriculturalandtradehubthousandsofyearsago.

Thecityisrenownedforitshighqualityoflifewithitsgreenpalmplantationsandoasis,richcultureandheritage,goodtrafficflowandaccesstofacilitiesandparkingsites.

EHDispredominatelyaresidentialcommunityforEmiratiswith3,000villaunitstargetingapopulationof24,000people.

EHDwilloccupyapproximately440haandincludenecessaryamenities

withinitsboundariessuchasmosques,schools,local,retail,communitycentres,parks,andopenspaces.

PlanAlAin2030recognisesthespe-cialqualitiesofthecityandaimsatreinforcingtheuniquecharacterofAlAinthroughthedesignofparticu-larelements.

Thus,theplanpromisesspecialtreat-mentsforthecity’soases,ensuringthattheyremainattheheartofthecommunityforgenerationstocome.

Project Background

TheinitialEmiratiHousingDevelop-mentJebelHafeetpro-conceptmasterplanwascreatedin2009confirmingtherequiredprogrammeelements.

Furtherplanningeffortswerecom-pletedthroughout20�0andhandedovertoDorschGruppeDCAbuDhabiinOctober20�0.

Justbeforeprojectstartin20�0anewbuildinglawhasbeenenactedinUAE.Thenewlawmakessustain-ableandecologicalbuildingmanda-toryforallnewconstructionprojects.

Thisre-orientationisstronglyneces-saryastheEmiratesarestillleadinginenergyandwaterconsumption.

Eachdistrictcentreincludesmosques,communityandwomen’scentres,kindergartens,schoolsandlocalcommerce,thusbecomingaplacewhereresidentswillbeabletogrowspiritually,mentally,physicallyandsocially.

Additionally,thedevelopmentincorporatespublicopenspacestrategicallyplacedthroughoutforclosertohomeaccessoftheseessentialelements.

Scope of Work

ThescopeofworkrenderedbyDCAbuDhabiincluded:Comprehensivemasterplandesign,comprehensivevilladesign,detaileddesignofpublicamenities,detaileddesignofopenspacesincludingurbandesignandlandscapingdesign,detaileddesignofinfrastructureandutilities,finaldesigndrawings,tenderdocumentswithcompletecontractdocuments,projectspecification,BOQs(unprizedandpriced),andtenderingservicesduringconstructionclarificationtocontractorRFI‘s,constructionsupervision.

Weevendevelopedanecologicalaswellasafinancialwell-balancedmethodforsustainablebuildingintheregionbeforethenewlawhascomeintoforce.

Connectivity and Infrastructure

Utilisingthispreciousanddistinctiveaspectofthelandpermitslongerviewstothewestandaddsvarietyandmovementtothearchitecture.

ThegoaloftheEmiratiHousingDevelopmentistoutilisetherichEmiratiheritageandre-createanenvironmentthatreflectsthecul-ture’ssocialstructureandrespondsappropriatelytothesurroundingen-vironmentalconditions,forinstancebyorientatingthemajorityoftheresidentialunitsintentionallyat�5°fromnorth.

DCAsiahasbeenappointedfortheprojectmanagementconsultancyservicesforPTTAR–IRPCmultiprod-uctpipelineprojectintheMaptaphutindustrialarea,RayongProvinceinThailand.

TheclientistheIRPCPublicCompanyLimited,theprojectcostsaccount22,228,984THB(approx.550T€),theprojectsstartedinMarch20��andwillendinJanuary20�3.

Itisasimilarprojecttoourprevioushighpressuregaspipelineproject.60%ofthealignmentisontheop-positesideoftheroad,40%isnewalignment.

However,nowthepipelineissup-posedtoservemultiproductssuchasgasoilandkerosene.

IRPCandPTTARarejointlydevelop-ingthenewmultiproductpipelineprojecttofacilitatethetransferofgasoil(GO)andkerosene(KERO)fromIRPC‘sstoragefacilitytoPTTARrefinery.IRPCandPTTARwanttoexpeditetheprojectbyperformingBasicdesignengineeringaswellasenvironmentalimpactassessment(EIA)inparallel.

Eachpumpiscapableofdelivering2m3/secataheadofapproximately9barandtherearefourpumpstobeinstalled,threeoperatingandoneonstand-byforthefirststage.

Eachpumpisoperatedbysoftstartersanddrivenwitha3,000kWand��kVwatercooledmotor.

Thesubsoilmostlyconsistsofasilty-clayeymatrix,withalotofstonesandbouldersbeingembedded.

Thegeotechnicalsurvey(drillings,penetrationtests,laboratorytests)showed–unexpectedlywithregardtotheresultsofformergeotechnicalsurveysatotherplacesontheClinicsite–,thatthesubsoilintheareaoftheplannedextensionisfeaturingnosufficientloadbearingcapacityfortheplannedbuilding.

Thegroundwouldsubsidebeyondtolerabilityandforalongerperiodundertheloadsofthenewbuilding.

Onlyatip-bearingdeepfoundationofthenewextensionwithcast-in-placepilesbeingdrilledintothebedrockcaneliminatetheriskofsettlement.

DorschInternationalwasentrustedbytheclient–likeseveraltimesbeforeinconnectionwithprojectsintheclinicarea–withthesubsoilinvestigation.

IntegratedRefinery&PetrochemicalComplexPublicCo.,Ltd.(IRPC)wishestocompletethePHAR-IRPCmultiproductpipelinesystemandfacilitiestotransportrefinedpetro-leumproductsfromtheIRPCtankfarmtothePTTARrefinery,whichislocatedintheMaptaphutindustrialarea.

ThecompletedsystemwillcompriseadedicatedboosterpumpstationandtransferredpumpstationinsideIRPCtankfarm,about27kmx�2“ofmultiproducttransmissionpipelinefromtheIRPCtankfarmtothePTTARrefineryandreceivingstationinsidethePTTARrefineryandanassociatedsystemandfacilities.

OurgoodrelationshipwiththeASVWiesbadenhasresultedinafurtherassignmentofalocalconstruc-tionsupervision,whichconcernsthecompleterenewalofamainthrough-roadinLorchamRhein.Thisconstructionprojectalsoincludesthebroadeningofthe“SteinerneBrücke“(bridgeofstone).

TheDIDivisionTrafficandInfrastruc-turewasabletonegotiateafollow-upprojectwiththeconstructionau-thorityMunichfortheMittlererRingSüdwest,whichincludesadditionalengineeringservicesfortheprovi-sionaltrafficcompletion.

DIDivisionTrafficandInfrastructurehasbeenassignedtwonewprojectsconcerningurbanizationzonesinthebeforementionedperiod.

TheformerbondedportinMainzistobedevelopedgraduallyintoamoderncityquarter.Duetointenseacquisi-tionwork,wehavebeenassignedthelocalconstructionsupervisionandthesecurityandhealthcoordination

ofthefirstconstructionstage.Byas-signmentoftheBondedPortMainzGmbHwewillsupervisetheconstruc-tionmeasuresoftheinfrastructure.Asthetotalareawillbedevelopedandconstructedinstages,wehaveagoodchanceofwinningfollow-upbids.

Anothernewproject,commissionedbytheUniversityCityofGießen,isanapprox.8.5hectaredevelopmentareainGießenAllendorf.IntheprogressofPlanB,thefirststagecomprisesatrafficanalysis,thepreliminaryplan-ningofthetrafficsystemandthecompletedrainsystem.Theprojectalsoincludesthetotalcoordina-tionofthesupplymedia.ThetrafficsurveywillbeprovidedbyBDC,ourwell-provencooperationpartner.

IntheprogressofthedevelopmentoftheurbanizationzoneGatewayGardens(AirportFrankfurt)DorschInternational,DivisionTrafficandInfrastructure,haswonthefollow-upbidsfortheplanningofthetraf-ficsystem,thedrain,thealignmentcoordinationandtheconstructionsupervisionoftwoextrapublicroads.Oneofthetworoadsisthelinktothecityquarter“QuartierAlpha”.

Thenewdesignofthestationsur-roundingshastobringinlinethefunctionalchallengesofthecentraltrafficjunctionofalltrafficsystems,thetownconstructionalelementsandthefinancesofthepublicfunding.

Atramrailandstopleadingtothestationandthebusstationto-be-movedhavetobeintegratedinthenewdesignedsquare,sothat,inthefuture,peoplecanchangefrompublicmetropolitanandsuburbantraffictolong-distancetrafficontheshortestdistance.

ThetramlineandtheroadwhichrunsalongtheEast-Westdirectionalaxisandmakesthefunctionsofthesquareaccessible,havebesomelandmarkofthepreferredsolution.

Thissolutionisnowreadytobedraftedandapprovedinapublic-lawprocess,detailedlydesignedandtenderedasabuildingproject.

Theconstructionofthepark&rideonthewesternsideistostartin20�2.

Thisdoesnotonlymakemattersoftownconstructionalstructuresmorecomplicated.

Wehadadilemmawiththetrambecauseplacingtherailveryneartothestationwouldconsequentlycreatelongerjourneys.Weneededanacceptablemiddlegroundsolution.

Thekeyforthisplanningsituationwasatrackalignmentwhichenablestoalreadyexitthestationstreetviathebridgerampindirectionofthestationonashortway.

Inthefollowingserviceperiodsmorestaffofbothconsortiumpartnerswilljointheteamifneeded.Inclosecollaborationwedefined34projecttargetsconcerningtraffic,towncon-struction,environmentandfinancesandequippedthemwithcriteriaandindicatorsfortheevaluationofthedesignalternatives.

Fromthefirstideasketchestothegraphicvisualizations,morethanonehundreddrawingsweremade.Asaresult,wechoseapreferredsolution,whichalltheteammembersconsiderveryneartotheoptimum.

Infact,thegeometricdesignofthepreferredsolutionissoextraordinarythattheremightbenocomparableoneintheword.

BecauseofthetowndevelopmentconditionsthemainstationofCottbusistrafficallylocatedinawaythatnostandardsolutionwouldworkhere.Thestationbuildingislocatedonthesideoftherailwayswhichdoesnotfacethecitycentreandisfarawayfromthestationstreetcrossingthebridge.
