PNM: Yeah, I am excited! I’m practically a Sigma already but this will be a great chance to meet some other women in the chapter. The following scenario takes place the day before the official start of formal recruitment. Emily,a Sigma, is friends with Melanie, a PNM, and they are studying for an exam in Melanie’sapartment.

Sigma: I think I am done studying for tonight. I can’t take anymore.

PNM: Me too. I’m ready for bed. I’m glad we got this studying done now since we won’t have a lotof time this weekend.

Sigma: Yeah, but the test isn’t until Tuesday do you want to get together again on Monday?

PNM: Yeah that works.

Sigma: Okay, how about Monday morning before the rounds start? We can meet here at yourapartment again.1

PNM: Okay, sounds good.

Sigma: So are you excited for recruitment?

PNM: Yeah, I am excited! I’m practically a Sigma already but this will be a great chance to meetsome other women in the chapter.

Sigma: Yeah, I’m so excited for the chance for you to finally become my sister! We are going to haveso much fun! Our sisterhood is so strong, and you are going to fit right in.2

PNM: I am a little nervous though, I want to make a good impression. But it’s so hot outside, I’mafraid my makeup is going to melt off and I’m going to be really gross during rotations!

Sigma: You know, I was going to drive, why don’t I just give you a ride? You only live a few doorsdown, we might as well ride together.3

PNM: Oh, that would be great! We won’t have to walk as far and I won’t have to worry about beinghot and sweaty for the first few rounds at least!

Sigma: Ok, just meet me at my apartment at 3:30. Do you want a ride home too?

PNM: Sure, that would be great. Hey are you going to the Delta Chi party afterwards? Want to justgo together?

Sigma: Actually, we aren’t allowed to go to frat parties or bars during recruitment but my roommate isan alumna and she invited a few people over you should come too.4

PNM: Okay cool.

Sigma: Bring your roommates too! Are they going through recruitment?

PNM: Yep they would love to meet some more Sigmas too.

Sigma: Okay, cool. If they are your friends they would probably make great Sigmas too.

PNM: Actually, my friend Rebecca is really interested in Zeta. She went to high school with a bunch ofthem. They seem okay.

Sigma: Zeta? Oh. Well, Sigma definitely has the strongest sisterhood, and is the most fun. To behonest, don’t tell anyone I said this, but Zetas kind of suck. They really don’t get along with thefraternities. You should encourage her to go Sigma we’re so much better!5

PNM: Well she is a little concerned about money. She heard Zeta’s fees are a little cheaper thaneveryone else’s, and their GPA requirement is lower, and she doesn’t want to worry about gettingkicked out because of her grades on top of everything else she’s dealing with.

Sigma: Oh really? Well Sigma’s dues are actually really low. Our GPA requirement is a 2.3. I thinkit’s pretty reasonable. Here, why don’t you give her this to remind her to keep an open mind aboutSigma? It has a little bit about us too. [Hand the paper to PNM, but make sure you show it to thechapter so they can read it.]6

PNM: Okay I’ll give it to her.

Sigma: Oh, and definitely let me know who you get invited back to after rounds tomorrow I can giveyou the dirt on them before you waste your time.7

PNM: Oh really? That would be so helpful! I mean, I know I’m going Sigma anyway, but at least Ican spy on other chapters this way! My Rho Chi keeps pushing Phi Mu she must be one of them.8

Sigma: Ugh, she must be. I better get going so I can get ready for tonight. See you later!

PNM: Bye!
