sheep and won’t escape under the gate or over the fence)
Children under 14 years must be supervised at all times, as this is a
working farm
Please respect fellow caravaners and be quiet after 11pm
No Smoking in or near the Cabin
Playing in and around the Cabin is not allowed
No Ball Games (including anything that can damage cars/caravans)
on the Caravan site
Don’t Climb or Lean on the Gates or Fences (some have an electric
wire to prevent animals from reaching through)
Use of the play equipment is at your own/children’s risk
The owner shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury suffered
by the holidaymakers, personal possessions, cars or contents
Thank you for your cooperation ☺

Useful Info Shower
In the cabin is a token operated shower which takes 20p & £1 coins, please ask us if
you require any change.
A 20p coin will last for 2 minutes, the time begins as soon as you insert the coin/s.
The token meter will countdown and beep when there is 1 minute left. The water
will run cold until you insert an additional coin, if required. We recommend you
insert a minimum of 40p for a more relaxing shower ☺ The meter will also take £1
coins.
Instructions can be found on the wall near to the shower. It is set not to exceed a
fixed temperature; to avoid scalding.
Children should not use the shower on their own
Please feel free to use the toys and games from the cupboard in the cabin & exchange books
Grey waste water point – on the left of the cabin
Chemical waste/elsan point – near the entrance to the site (through the gap in the hedge)
Electric hook-ups are all 16amp – please let us know if they trip out
Fresh Free Range Eggs, Chutneys & Jams can be purchased the cabin (subject to
availability)
There is a walk down the green track, which is also the Children’s trail, please look for the
signs opposite the rubbish point. If you have young children please ask for the map and
questions for the Children’s trail 😊
There is a longer walk to Skipwith, it is 2.97 Km and mostly off the main road, please see
‘Walk to Skipwith Common or The Drovers Arms’ on the next few pages
The stile near the cabin (under the oak tree) is only to be used to retrieve any belongings, it
isn’t a public footpath
![Page 8: INFORMATION PACK - fieldhouse-caravan-site.co.uk · 2018-06-14 · (including Motorhomes) Welcome to Field House Farm Certificated Location, we hope you enjoy your stay with us. If](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050121/5f51018f358979212476b34e/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)

Walk to Skipwith Common or The Drovers Arms
Walk from Field House Farm
Please note that although most of this route is marked on OS Maps you will not see any footpath
signs to direct you. We have therefore created maps of the route and directions for you to follow,
they can be found in the cabin on the table (please ask if you can’t find them).
We have recently gained permission to walk along a track near our farm, this is a permissive path
and the access can be withdrawn at any time. We also have permission to walk down the road to
Manor House, the same rule applies so please pickup after your dogs and respect the Farmers,
Landowners and Gamekeepers - thank you 😊
Note that Dogs must be kept on a lead due to ground nesting birds and the local Estate Shoot.
There is also livestock in Skipwith Common including Hebridean sheep, Longhorn cattle along
with Exmoor ponies.
Please note that during wet periods the route may be muddy in parts and it takes you to the
Drovers Arms public house (Route 1) or to the beginning of Skipwith Common down Common
Road (past some houses) (Route 2). The route may also be overgrown (so we
recommend you wear trousers and suitable shoes) and please take some strong insect
repellent.
Walk from Field House Farm
Please note that although most of this route is marked on OS Maps you will not see any footpath
signs to direct you, so please take a copy of this map with you.
Follow the signs for the Treasure trail (opposite the Rubbish & Recycling Area) until you get to the
edge of our fields (there is a small Skipwith sign at the end of the trail). Turn left onto the track
towards the main road and then cross the road onto the lane opposite. Follow the track until you
almost reach the house at Manor Farm (shown on the map) and turn right (just before the holly
bush) and continue along the track until you reach Bonby Lane (this lane is used to access the
Paintballers area so you may see a few cars). Go straight across the main road. Follow the map to
get to the Drovers Arms (Route 1), you will see a well trodden path on your right. Or you can
continue on to Route 2, the only part you have to walk along the road is in the village, please be
careful and walk on the village green as much as possible.
We don’t recommend walking along the main road from our farm to Skipwith due to the speed of
traffic.

Tips for other travellers The following information has been extracted from feedback on our website (since May 1016) :
Park & ride into York at the designer outlet is a must, close by and cheap, saves the hassle
of queuing in traffic and finding a car park.
I would recommend the park and ride from the designer outlet into York. £2.80 day return.
My grandsons favourite was the boat ride on the ouse in York. We also enjoyed the
Yorkshire wildlife park near Doncaster which is well worth a visit.
Fat Abbot pub in Escrick good food.
Food at both the drovers in skipwith and the Jefferson arms in Thorganby was excellent,
the drovers being a little bit pricey.
We parked our motorhome at the park & Ride which is 7 miles away and went into York on
two days.
Lovely walk with the dogs on Skipwith common.
Good for visiting York where there are 5 park and ride sites! We visited National Trust
properties which are mostly north of York so spent much time on the York ring road!
Beningbrough Hall gave us a super day out. Fabulous gardens and very interesting house.
Also the Riveaulx Terraces above Helmsley should not be missed. We ate a couple of times
at The White Swan on the A19. Not too expensive with daily offers, pretty good food but
not a big choice of drinks.
Brilliant cycling to either Selby or York.
Drovers Arms in Skipwith very good, easy access to York, Wendy recommended Beverly
and was well worth the visit.
Swallow Hall Golf Club nearby. Good course for more occasional golfers - flat & generally
wide fairways.
Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum, Fountains Abbey. Good, cheap, park and ride service
to York.
Black Bull Pub in Eskrick very good meals. The Oaks Golf Club very enjoyable we went
twilight booking for £15 each plus £20 buggy, well worth it.
Had morning coffee and cake at 'The little coffee house in Selby, which was lovely. Staff
very friendly. Had lunch at Drovers pub in Skipwith which again was really nice.
Use the park & ride into York, if you have a bus pass it's only £1 and free to park.
Try Golf Club at Wheldrake for Sunday Lunch reasonable cost and more than you can eat
but book.
We found the two minsters of York and Beverley to be very interesting, and York itself was
very nice to stroll around.
Park & Ride @ Designer Outlet is great for going into York.
Happy Haddock in lay by just past Escrick is very good. For us the White Swan was both
local and acceptable. York with its many attractions is so accessible via the local Park &
Ride.
![Page 27: INFORMATION PACK - fieldhouse-caravan-site.co.uk · 2018-06-14 · (including Motorhomes) Welcome to Field House Farm Certificated Location, we hope you enjoy your stay with us. If](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050121/5f51018f358979212476b34e/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)

Elvington Air Museum....... very dog friendly, even giving doggie treats out as you arrive!
local pub the drovers is good but do not serve food after six on sundays (a bit
disappointing)
The coast is with-in an hour drive as are the North Yorkshire Moors.
Wendy suggested Skipwith Common for a walk. It’s a 3 minute car ride from the site. This
was lovely as we were lucky with dry weather....the kids were engrossed in their own
imaginary Gruffalo trail and it was ideal for the dogs to stretch their legs - although strictly
to be kept on their leads as there’s sheep roaming...Another brilliant spot!
Good footpaths in Skipwith Common and the River Ouse. The nearest pub, The Drovers
Arms is good food and beer.
Hull is a very nice place to visit were you can park by the marina for free for 2 hours. There
are other places to visit in a 30 mile radius. All in all we had a lovely time there and hope
other visitors enjoy it as much as we did.
York city is an amazing place to visit. Lots to see and do there and you need a whole day
there to see as much as you can. Skipwith Common nice pub with good food. Escrick nice
woods to walk in with dog. Designer outlet for those inclined to shop and a great Park and
ride based there too for York. We visited several little villages off the motorway and
avoided the busy roads which was fabulous.
Lovely meal at The Drovers. Definitely use the Park and Ride into York- so easy to get to.
Park and ride into York from the York Designer outlet saves the hassle and parking fees.
We have never had a bad meal at the White Swan at Deighton.
Easy access to York, Selby, Beverly, the East Coast, the Wolds. Enjoyed drinks and/or food
at The Drovers just down the road.
A trip into York is a must to visit the Minster and National Railway Museum and walk the
town walls.
Perfectly placed to visit Kingston Upon Hull, Howden, Selby and York
For those who like shopping you can't beat McArthur Glen/York Shopping Outlet and for
those with mobility issues you can book a scooter/wheelchair for £2 - ring to pre-book or
call at visitor services in the entrance on the off-chance they have one available.
We had a meal at the Thai restaurant in Escrick. On a Wednesday evening they have a
special menu for two and it was gorgeous.
Our daughter is a 'veggie' (we are so called less-meaters) ... We enjoyed a brilliant meal at
El Piano in York (vegetarian, vegan). Beningbrough hall is well worth a visit. Have lunch
at the lovely home farm café http://www.homefarmbeningbrough.co.uk/ . We also enjoyed
a meal at the Drovers Arms http://www.thedroversarmsskipwith.com/ and The Black Bull
in Escrick looked very good, but was fully booked, so we couldn't get in...
http://theblackbullescrick.com/
The Park & Rides to York (& Whitby) were brilliant, so cheap when using bus passes & no
charge for the dog! The Designer Outlet was worth a visit too.

Extra Information to help us and you ☺ We listen to your feedback and requests (extra toilet being 1) and it would help us if you try and
help us too. You don’t have to read the information below, but you might find it useful.
It would help us if you …
… don’t empty your hot water directly on the grass – Why? - This causes patches of grass
to die and get scorched (we didn’t know this either!)
… avoid using electric heating elements in your caravan - Why? – We only have a limited
amount of electricity and to upgrade is going to cost a minimum of £26,000. Another way
round this would be for us to reduce the hook-ups from 16amp to 10amp etc, but we want
to avoid this if at all possible. We understand that you need to use a little heating, but
please avoid the following:
Electric kettles – try using gas instead
Slow cookers/steamers/George Foreman grill etc – use a very large amount of electric
over a longer period of time so they will cause more problems than a kettle
Hair dryers/tongs etc – again heating elements. Try and use alternatives e.g. smaller
hairdryer and gas tongs
Irons – try and use travel irons, if you really need to iron while on holiday ☺
Electric heaters/electric radiators – use gas instead. Or if cold, use gas to warm your
caravan faster and then switch over to electric to keep it warm (at a reduced setting).
… recycle as much as possible – We take plastic, cardboard, paper, cans and bottles to be
recycled. We don’t have much room in our bin for none-recyclable goods. Again, if we do
have to increase our bin size there are additional costs. So to help us to keep our charges
down, please recycle as much as possible. If you are unsure what will recycle, just drop it
in the recycle bin anyway and we’ll sort it ☺
Dogs – we only allow well behaved dogs on the site and they are to be kept on leads. You
can use the paddock next to the site to have your dog off the lead (provided you are sure it
will be well behaved and not go over or under the fence), please clean up after your dogs.
Farm Cats – please don’t feed as this will encourage them to ‘hang around’ the caravan site.
The thinnest one (Bailey) is a young mischief and may scratch or bite! The fattest one
(Ollie) is lovely and please do feel free to stroke him.
Electric cables – please don’t have them too close to the fence, as the sheep & lambs will no
doubt reach through to eat the grass and may eat your cable instead!
If there are any problems – just let us know and we’ll try and sort as soon as possible.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this information ☺ Stuart & Wendy

Feeding the Hens
Please feel free to feed our hens with the following foods (be careful as
their fence is now electric): Treat Type General Opinions
Apples Raw and
applesauce
Apple seeds contain cyanide, but not in sufficient quantities
to kill.
Asparagus Raw or cooked Okay to feed, but not a favorite.
Bananas Without the peel High in potassium, a good treat.
Beans Well-cooked only,
never dry
Also, greenbeans.
Berries All kinds A treat, especially strawberries.
Breads All kinds - good
use for stale bread
or rolls
Feed starches in moderation and not mouldy bread.
Broccoli &
Cauliflower
Whole head
They love to play with it and they also have the greens to
eat. Cabbage &
Brussels
Sprouts
Carrots Raw and cooked They like carrot foliage too.
Cereal
(breakfast)
Cheerios, etc. Avoid highly sugared cereal such as Cocopuffs, etc.
Cheese Including cottage
cheese
Feed in moderation, fatty but a good source of protein and
calcium
Corn On cob and canned,
raw and cooked
Cucumbers
Let mature for yummy seeds and flesh.
Eggs Hardcooked and
scrambled are a
good source of
protein, and a
favorite treat.
Feed cooked eggs only because we don’t want our chickens
to start eating their own raw eggs ☺
Fruit Pears, peaches,
cherries, apples
Either whole or in half, they will have fun pecking out the
fruit.
Grapes Seedless only Great fun - the cause of many entertaining "chicken
keepaway" games.
Lettice / Kale Any leafy greens A big treat, depending on how much other greenery they
have access to.
![Page 32: INFORMATION PACK - fieldhouse-caravan-site.co.uk · 2018-06-14 · (including Motorhomes) Welcome to Field House Farm Certificated Location, we hope you enjoy your stay with us. If](https://reader034.fdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022050121/5f51018f358979212476b34e/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
29
Melon
Both seeds and flesh are good chicken treats.
Pasta /
Macaroni
Cooked spaghetti,
etc.
A favorite treat, fun to watch them eat it, but not much
nutrition.
Peas Peas and pea
tendrils
Peppers (bell)
Pomegranates Raw Seeds are a big treat.
Potatos / Sweet
Potatos/Yams
Cooked only -
avoid green parts
of peels!
Starchy, not much nutrition
Pumpkins /
Winter Squash
Raw or cooked Both seeds and flesh are a nutritious treat.
Raisins
Rice Cooked only Pilaf mixes are okay too, plain white rice has little nutrition.
Sprouts Good for greens in mid-winter.
Summer
Squash
Yellow squash and
zucchini
Yellow squash not a huge favorite, but okay to feed.
Sunflower
Seeds
Sunflower seeds
either with or
without the shell
A good treat, helps hens lay eggs and grow healthy feathers.
Tomatos Raw and cooked.
Turnips Cooked Not a huge favorite
Watermelon
Seeds and flesh are both okay to feed.
Yogurt Plain or flavoured A big favourite and good for their digestive systems. Plain
is better.
Don’t feed the following things to the hens:
Here’s why:
Raw green potato peels Toxic substance called Solanine.
Anything real salty Can cause salt poisoning in small bodies such as chickens.
Citrus Oranges, lemons etc
Dried or undercooked
Beans
Raw, or dry beans, contain a poison called hemaglutin which is toxic
to birds.
Avocado Skin and Pit Skin and pit have low levels of toxicity.
Raw eggs You don’t want to introduce your chickens to the tastiness of eggs
which may be waiting to be collected in the nestboxes.
Sweets, Chocolate, Sugar Their teeth will rot… No, it’s just bad for their systems, and chocolate
can be poisonous to most pets.
