Your Place for Information and Support

The UCSF Cancer Resource Center (CRC) promotes wellness and the healing process by providing patients and their loved ones with supportive care services and cancer-related information. We offer a range of pro-grams designed to bring people with cancer together, foster community, educate and offer effective tools to help navigate the disease process. Most programs are free to anyone living with cancer. Visit the UCSF Cancer Resource Center before or after your medical appointment to learn about resources available to you. The CRC can serve as your connection hub to supportive care services.

Art for Recovery

The Open Art Studio takes place weekly, providing a safe and friendly environment for patients to express their feelings through various arts and writing projects.

Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program

A family history questionnaire and genetic testing are used to identify hereditary risk for cancer. These services are available for a fee. Some insurance companies may cover these services.

Cancer Resource Center Lending Library at Mount Zion

Borrow books, CDs or DVDs related to cancer and well-being from the CRC’s exclusive, 1,200-title lending library.

Cancer Clinical Trials

UCSF offers participation in many clinical trials in keeping with our research mission to eliminate cancer as a life-threatening disease.

Exercise and Movement Classes

Participate in an exercise class specifically designed for people with cancer. Classes include yoga, Pilates-based core strengthening, Healing Through Dance and Feldenkrais-based restorative movement. A completed waiver and health history form, available on the CRC website, is required.

Spiritual Care

Chaplains are available 24/7 and serve people of all faiths, as well as those with no particular faith tradition. Meditation rooms are available for silent reflection in the Mission Bay and Parnassus hospitals, and in the Mount Zion main lobby.

Social Work

Social workers can assist with practical and emotional concerns, such as insurance coverage, disability benefits, financial assistance, transportation, lodging and setting up home care or hospice care. A social worker is assigned to each practice and can meet with you by appointment. To speak to your social worker, ask your oncologist’s office or call the Cancer Resource Center at 415-885-3693 for your assigned social worker’s name and phone number.

Stop Smoking Class

Quit smoking, or prevent smoking relapse, with help from the UCSF Fontana Tobacco Treatment Center. Group classes are available for a fee.

Support Groups

Receive support and information through discussion with others. UCSF offers approximately 15 support groups for cancer patients and loved ones. The CRC can refer you to other groups throughout the Bay Area.

Symptom Management Service

The Symptom Management Service provides multidisciplinary medical services and palliative care for current UCSF cancer patients with troubling side effects or with advanced cancer. A referral from your oncologist or another member of your health care team is required. Services are avail- able for a fee. Some insurance companies may cover these services.
