Examinations have changed. Children need to remember much more information than they have ever done in the past.
T his means children need to keep reading over their school work. You can help them by testing them on what they learnt in lessons every day
● Students need to have more general knowledge.● London is one of the greatest cities in the world.● Take your child to see museums, art galleries, exhibitions and famous buildings.
Much of this is free.● We call this knowledge - CULTURAL CAPITAL - it is important for examinations
We have rules for the way our students present work. We
call these rules the Alperton Quality Standards:
Alperton Quality Standard (AQS) for all written work:
• BE PROUD – Best Effort a Pen a Ruler , Objectives , Underline and Date
• Label work clearly : Classwork and Home learning• Label any work done using ICT clearly• Write learning objectives as a question and highlight• The book must Include the;
o 10 Golden ruleso Record of targets/ levels of attainment and progress
• Highlight key words within written work for each lesson• Keep a glossary of key words, either student written or typed
the back of your book• Do drawings in pencil• Write with a blue or black pen• Respond to teacher feedback comments in green pen.• Do peer and self-marking using green pen
● All the evidence tells us - better attendance means better exam results● 1 day absence is one day too many● Holidays during term time can only be taken in EXCEPTIONAL circumstances.● You must see the Headteacher at Parents Surgery before you book a holiday● Headteacher Surgery takes place every Friday at Stanley Avenue at 4pm
● Lateness is a bad HABIT● Lateness in Year 7 will lead to lateness to examinations and important revision
sessions in Year 11● You can help your child by making sure they are up in time and do not need to
rush in the morning● Students must be in school at 8:30am every day
● We believe a brain is like a muscle - the more you work your brain the stronger it gets.
● We call this a GROWTH MINDSET● If you work hard and do not give up - you will be successful● We believe every student has limitless potential
● Junk food is banned. It will be confiscated and destroyed. This is becausechildren’s learning is affected by the food they eat.
● Healthy food = healthy mind● Chewing gum will ruin our building. NEVER buy gum for your child.

Free School Meals
• Many families are entitled to Free Meals butthey do not claim them. Please collect a formand we will help you to fill it in.
● Please do not give your child CASH● We do not accept cash - we are a CASHLESS school● If your child has cash they will use it to buy junk food from the
shops● We use PARENT PAY
● Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 students do not need a smartphone.● We have all the computers your child will need for their learning● If we see a smartphone we will confiscate it and you will need to come to the
school to collect it.● We recommend a basic phone which can only be used to call and text. They are
cheap and your child will not be able to access social media.
● You must never allow your child to use a smartphone, tablet or computer in their bedroom● Social media (Instagram, facebook, snapchat etc) will keep them awake at night● Problems always start on social media e.g. arguments● Things could be worse - the internet is not a safe place for an unsupervised child● Decide on a time in the evening that your child’s phone will go into the kitchen to be charged
overnight

● Children MUST GO straight home at the end of school● In London, the Police tell us that gangs recruit children by
buying them food in chicken shops
Good manners cost nothing We are kind and polite to each other. We ALWAYS tidy up after ourselves We do not drop LITTER.
