Last Updated Aug. 24, 2016 Information for Mariners Ocean Observatories Initiative: Cabled Array The Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) is a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded large infrastructure project. The project consists of 830 instruments distributed on 89 platforms, spread through seven arrays located in the North and South Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. The OOI Cabled Array is located off the coast of Washington and Oregon. It consists of two lines of fiber-optic cable, one that runs across the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate to the Axial Seamount, and a second that curves south and tracks the Continental Margin off the coast of OR, going up the slope onto the continental shelf. The infrastructure of the Cabled Array includes ~900 km of electro-optical cable that provides power and high-bandwidth connectivity to >100 instruments and 6 full water-column profiling moorings. Note that two of these profiling moorings are located spatially within the Coastal Endurance Array.
