What is Crossrail?Crossrail will deliver a major new suburban rail service for London and the South-East, for the fi rst time providing a direct connection through the City, Canary Wharf, the West End and Heathrow Airport to commuter areas east and west of the capital.Crossrail will provide easier, quicker and more direct travel opportunities across the capital for the fi rst time via new railway lines and tunnels. We are creating nine new stations across London connected by 42km of new tunnels.In addition Network Rail is responsible for the design, development and delivery of the parts of Crossrail that are on the existing network, covering 108km of track and 29 stations from Reading in the West to Abbey Wood and Shenfi eld in the east. The new railway will become fully operational by the end of 2018.

Opportunities for local peopleCrossrail is moving into the peak of construction and there will be many di� erent types of job opportunities and apprenticeships with the contractors involved in building the new railway.We are committed to o� ering local people the opportunity to start their career in the construction industry and/or improve their skills within the industry.We are working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, the National Apprenticeship Service and a wide range of local employment support organisations to make this commitment a reality.

Essential information and criteria• A current Construction Skills Certifi cate

Scheme (CSCS) card is required as a minimum for all operative jobs

• Always check client skills and experience against the essential criteria elements of the job description

• Many of our sites work 24/7 therefore ability to work shifts is often essential

• Full personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory and will be provided

• All our contractors pay at least the London living wage (£8.80ph from 1st April 2014)
