Welcome to August’s in:form!

This month, it’s packed full of information about what’s going on in and around the Centre – I hope you will find it useful. Do come and take part in our new summer “Surrey Children’s Activity Passport” activities. You can collect your passport from the Centre at any time, or from the Tuesday activities. Please remember that they are given on a first come, first served basis. If you haven’t signed up to receive it electronically, then just complete the ‘Email updates’ form in the ‘Contact’ section of our website – www.theredoak.org.uk – or ‘like us’ at www.facebook.com/theredoak

Seaside Fun day

To celebrate our third birthday, we’ve been planning a seaside themed fun day… BUT we haven’t told you much about it yet. So, here are the first few details to entice you to join us… The fun day will be at Littlehampton on 22nd September and although there will be a small contribution to cover the cost of the coaches, we’ll be providing free activities for the journey and throughout the day – including our inaugural annual staff v parents rounders match! There will also be lots of time for families to explore the wonders that Littlehampton has to offer too. More information will be available over the next few weeks, including how to book you place, so keep an eye on Facebook, on our website or on the posters in the Centre.

The next group begins on Wednesday 12th Sept.

The next 5 week baby massage course starts on Friday 7th Sept. £25 for the course.

Everyday Parenting

5 free, informal and interactive workshops designed to get the most out of family life. Starts 12th November. Crèche available.

Parenting Puzzle

10 week parenting course starting Tuesday 11th September at St Catherine’s School, Bletchingley. £20 for the course.

Preparing to help in schools

A short course to find out how you can support children’s learning. Starts on 24th September and runs for 5 weeks.

Drop-in to have your baby weighed or to see the health visiting team... then stay for a while and have a drink while your little one plays.

A 5-week course to teach you all you need to know about baby massage. It’s great for relaxation, bonding and communication. Call to book.

Dad’s Club

An opportunity for dad’s to bring their children to a session of play and activities. Open to children under 7, and their superheroes!

Kids Zumba

Zumba classes for children aged 4 and over. Little Stars from 4pm- 4.45pm (ages 4-7 years) and Big Stars from 4.45pm- 5.30pm (ages 8-11 years)

Little Sports Stars

A drop-in active session with ‘Little Sports Stars’ – the specialists in children’s multi-sports and activities. Open to children aged 2-5.

Fox Cubs

A group for children (aged 3-6) to enjoy, explore and learn about nature, the environment & wildlife. Run with Surrey Wildlife Trust & Furzefield Primary School. See web site for more information.

Playlink

A popular drop-in stay and play session run jointly by Merstham Playlink (Welcare in East Surrey) and us. Runs at Age Concern, Weldon Way, Merstham

Post Natal Group

A 4-week course for new mums introducing a wide range of topics including Baby Massage, First Aid, Feeding, Dentistry and more.

SPLAT!

Come, stay, play & learn all together! Use all our facilities and equipment, meet others, take part in organised activities… There’s LOTS to do! SPLAT (hbc) – for home-based child carers – is on Mondays @ The Red Oak.

HBC: £1 per child

Splodgers!

A chance to come and do all the arty, crafty and MESSY things you want to do with your children, but without the stress of doing it at home!

£2 for first child, then £1 each

After School SPLAT! The trial period for this has now finished. We will review its inclusion

in our September programme over the summer.

Home-Based Childcarers (HBC’s)

From 1st September 2012 there will be some significant changes to the way we run our services for HBC’s.

1. All HBC’s and the children they care for must be registered to use the Centre. 2. The SPLAT! sessions will have a maximum of 20 children. Attendance will need to be

booked in advance. 3. We are changing our system of payment and introducing 2 options- subscription (which

provides extra benefits such as a priority booking system) or pay as you use.

Full details of the changes can be obtained from the Children’s Centre or downloaded from our HBC website. Subscription forms will be available from the Centre from mid August.

Are you a couple and expecting your first child? Family Foundations is a unique course for expectant mothers and fathers in

Surrey expecting their first baby together. Coming soon.

The Parenting Puzzle is a 10-week course, presented in a friendly, informal way which encourages parents and carers to enjoy bringing up children and get the best

out of family life.

The course can help us to understand how emotions influence our actions, and offers many positive, practical ways of guiding children so they learn to handle both

their feelings and their behaviour. It suggests ways of helping us feel good - boosting self-esteem in ourselves and in our children and has activities for parents to take part

in.

It’s open to parents and carers of all ages and only costs £2 per week (although you can pay it all in advance if you wish) which covers the cost of your book and

refreshments.

Start date: Tuesday 11th September 2012 Time-:6.45pm- 8.45pm
