It tracks FSC certied mate- rial through the production pro- cess - from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transforma- tion, manufacturing and distribu- tion. It is a system that provides in- formation about where the wood or forest based material come from or does not come from. It requires that the origin of raw materials is iden- tied and that the wood or forest based materials are traceable from one operation to the next includ- ing successive stages of processing, transformation and distribution. In the source control certication pro- cess, the entire chain from forestry operations to nished product must be documented. Early in the programme, the focus has been on manufacturing. Since a true Lean organisation applies Lean principles everywhere, the scope has now been expanded to business pro- cesses in supporting functions such as HR, Finance and the SCA Con- tainerboard Service Centre. The ultimate goal of a Lean organi- zation is to have a continuous im- provement culture. In other words,  we want to have Lean in the DNA. In such a culture, everybody is en- gaged to seek opportunities for im- provement and to implement chang- es to improve. The focus of a Lean organization is on the Customer. Improvements are targeting four areas: Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. A Lean organi- zation looks at eliminating wastes, reducing variability and increasing exibility to improve in these four areas. The principles as described above have originally been developed by Toyota (the Toyota Production Sys- tem) and have since been widely adopted in the automotive industry globally. The application is now ex- panding to all kinds of industries and also beyond manufacturing in hospitals, banks, insurance compa- nies etc... In 2007, SCA Containerboard started with the implementation of the Lean principles in the organization. To guarantee a successful transformation towards a Lean company, SCA has built an internal team of experts that supports the different entities with their voyage towards Lean. What is FSC? The Forest Stewardship Council, FSC, is an independent, non-gov- ernmental, non-prot organisation established to promote the respon- sible management of the world’s forests. FSC provides a certication system with internationally recog- nized standard-setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services Sources or FSC Recycled. The survey starts with a Presen-

tation& Planning meeting. Thismeeting is intended to explain how the audit will be done, dene thepossible points of measurement, andagree upon the expectations andoutcome of the audit. It is the neces-sary preparation for doing the actualSurvey and Data Analysis.
