    Academic calendar In general:Classes in the summer and winter semester start on theMonday of April (summer semester) or October (wintersemester) which is closest to the 15th of that month.Classes end on the Sunday 13 weeks after the termstarts (summer semester) and 18 weeks after the termstarts in the winter semester.Special ruling applies if Easter Monday is on April 12th orlater.Dates forWinter semester(14.10.13-08.02.14, no lectures 23.12.13-06.01.14)Summer semester(07.04.14-19.07.14, no lectures 10.06.-14.06.14)

    Number of credits or units thatundergraduate students need tocomplete in one semester/term

    Two lectures and two seminars per semester arerecommended. In addition, students can attend coursesin the area of German as a second language.

    Yes, more than 50 different per semester. You will findthem on ourdownload section. Participants do not haveto pay any fees, only course material, excursions etc.We do not offer courses for beginners.

    Accommodat ion

    Is university-administered

    accommodation available toexchange students?

    Accommodation is administered by the

    STUDENTENWERK (Student Services Organization, itis not affiliated with the University) and is available forexchange students.

    If yes, do students sendaccommodation application toyour office and where to obtainthe application materials?

    Students can apply for housingonline. Contracts will beavailable for the duration of the whole semester only.(http://www.my-stuwe.de/cms/front_content.php?idart=209)

    If students are required tosubmit accommodationapplication to a separate office,please advise the applicationprocedures.

    There is a deposit of 400.- Euro due upon arrival.

    Is accommodation available oversemester breaks? If yes, anyadditional charges?

    Yes. Students can stay in their rooms until the end of thecontract. Dorms are open year-round, students do nothave to move out during breaks.

    Visa Requirements

    Are exchange students requiredto obtain a student visa?

    Yes. Please contact us or the embassy if you areuncertain whether you need a visa prior to enteringGermany. EU students do not need visas but will receivetheir study permit once they are in Tbingen.

    Are exchange students allowedto work?

    On campus: Yes more than the hours mentionedbelow (but students should ask for further information!)Off campus: Yes 90 days for 8 hours each (or 180days for 4 hours) / per year

    Is a special visa required forwork?

    The above-mentioned 90 days need to be marked in thestudent visa. Students have to inform theAuslnderbehrde about their work.

    Medical Insu rance

    Are exchange students required

    to purchase a compulsory plan?If yes, please provide details:

    No. But they need to have health insurance at the time

    of matriculation. All students can either buy studenthealth insurance at any German insurance company, orbring an international health insurance with them.Europeans should bring their EHIC-card to prove theirinsurance. A student travel insurance is valid as well.
