Entertainment (IFE) to airlines around the globe since 1984.

• New Direction: Expand their service offering to move from

solely a content company to a technology company.

• Support: IFD lacks the expertise in-house

• Collaboration: Identified TSSG as a leader in research &

innovation

• Enterprise Ireland funding scheme

• Up to €200,000 in EI support for research projects

• EI contributes up to 80%

Airlines

Currently interested in providing a system to wirelessly

stream media content directly to passenger devices.

Advantages:

– Increase market size with short haul flights

– Reduce weight as no need for embedded systems

– Reduce maintenance and upgrade costs

– Increase ancillary revenue for an airline

Hollywood Studios• Protective of their Intellectual Property i.e. their content

• IFD and TSSG worked from a content distributors perspective to ensure that security and

traceability of media files is at the forefront of the solution.

• How to gain Hollywood approval?

• Whitepaper detailing the lifecycle of the media files:

– From leaving Hollywood Lab to IFD Offices and then transferred to the aircraft

– How it is stored, handled and protected

– Who has access to it and what actions are they taking

– What encryption, transcoding watermarking etc.

– How are the encryption/decryption keys handled

– How it is streamed to passenger devices

– How it is destroyed and/or archived

Hollywood Approval

• The Whitepaper was delivered to the 6 major Hollywood Studios:

• All 6 have approved the solution.

• Inflight Dublin are the only Inflight Entertainment Provider in the world

with approval from all 6 studios to stream content to passenger-owned

devices.
