Overview This document guides you through use of the Haystack extension with InferStack. It provides client and
server capabilities.
Enable the Extension The Haystack extension needs to be enabled in the source and destination devices. Go to Settings and
enable the Haystack extension by pressing the grayed Enabled. It will be Green when enabled.

Haystack Server Once you have enabled the Haystack extension, your device acts as a Haystack Server automatically.
The default behavior is to enable discovery. If you wish to disable discovery on a per project basis, then
add the disableDisovery tag on your projMeta, or you can disable discovery on InferStack Server via
settings.props.
Haystack Client You set up the Haystack Client by adding a connector for each Haystack Server that you want to access.
Add Connectors You need to set up a connector for each Haystack device that you want to access. Use Builder to add
Connectors for each Haystack device. Once in the Builder app, press Connectors in the top menu to see
the connectors in the right column.
The Plus (+) sign in the upper right lets you add Connectors.

Haystack Discovery InferStack implements a multicast discovery protocol. The ConnApp for Haystack has a Discover button
that will find all the projects running on your local network and lets you easily add them as connectors.

Note: After you Add your connector, you will need to edit it to add user and password.
Note: If you do not discover an InferStack device or server, check to make sure you entered Site URL in
its Settings app - Project tab.
If you do not discover your devices, select the Connector Type (Haystack) and enter the fields for your
device:

Display Name – This is the name used to reference your device.
URI – This is a reference to the device like http://192.168.1.202/api/infer.
Haystack Slot – Yes or No (for nHaystack connections: If set to ‘Yes’ then only points that have a
‘haystack’ slot added to them will be added when you add the site or the equip to your equipment tree.
If set to ‘No’ then all points will be added, even if they don’t have haystack slot in them)
Note: You should make sure Haystack Slot is No for connectors to InferStack devices and servers.

User Name – This is the user name like su.
Password – Click the Edit Password Icon to the right of User Name to enter the password.
Press Create and then select the record info button to see results.
Check Connector In Builder, select Connectors and select your connector. Next press the pencil in the upper right to Edit
the connector.

Press Ping to ensure your device is connected properly.
In the upper right are icons for Tools, Point Debug Info, Enabled, Status and State for the connector.
Press Close and select the Record Info.
This will show all the properties and markers.

View Available Items If you expand the connector, you see folders for Equip, Historized Points, KPI Targets (analytics option),
KPIs (analytics option), Meters (analytics option), Note Targets, Rules (analytics option), Spark Targets
(analytics option), alarmTarget and program.
Note: In 2.1.11, you will only see sites.

Equip Equip contains the sites, equipment and points in the device. You use these to bring sites, equipment
and points into your device.

Create Sites, Equipment or Points
From Connector Press the right arrow beside Equip to see the tree of sites, equipment and points that it found in your
device.
Drag one or more sites, equipment or points in the right connector tree to the left equipment tree to
add them.
Note: There is a problem where dragging site(s) or equip(s) from the connector to the tree causes
errors by copying many extra items. You should only copy points.

When the equipment changes color, you can release the mouse to create a new point there. You can
drag an entire site to get all the points in it if desired.

NOTE: Be sure to leave your points as Connected Points
History You may want to check the Has History box and change the drop down from Synchronized to Collected if
your device does not have history to be synchronized.
Manual Initial Sync If you want to synchronize history, you need to sync your history initially at the most recent range
manually. Select your connector in the Connectors app.
Select the points you want to synchronize.

Press Sync His. It will default to Since Last sync, but change it to Choose.
They will then synchronize.
Create History Sync Jobs Next, you need to set up a job to sync your trend regularly.

Press Create History Sync Jobs.
Press Apply. You can see your job in the Job app.

Provisioning Provisioning provides tools for centrally managing groups of InferStack devices. This tool provides
support for:
Monitoring connection status
Batch upgrading devices
Batch patching devices
Once you enable the Provisioning extension in Settings, you will see Provisioning under Haystack. See
Provisioning for more information.
