Processed cereal-based foods Food intended for use by infants when they are weaned and by young children as a supplement

to their diet and/or for their progressive adaptation

to ordinary food

which are or have to be reconstituted with milk or otherappropriate nutritious liquids,

Cereals with an added high protein food which are or have to be reconstituted with water or other

protein-free liquid, Pastas

Rusks and biscuits which are to be used either directly or, after pulverisation,

with the addition of water, milk or other suitable liquids;

Introduction ‘baby food’ means food intended to fulfil the particular

operator through a systematic review of theavailable data relating to the expected benefitsand to safety considerations as well as, wherenecessary, appropriate studies, performedfollowing generally accepted expert guidance onthe design and conduct of such studies”.

be not less than four months) from which the foodmay be used, regard being had to its composition, texture or other

particular properties; information as to the presence or absence of

gluten if the age stated is less than six months;

Labelling: Processed Cereal-based Foodsand baby food Energy value expressed in kJ and kcal, and

Protein, carbohydrate and fat content, expressed in numerical form, per 100 g or 100 ml of the

food as sold and, where appropriate, per specifiedquantity of the food as proposed for consumption;

Average quantity of minerals and vitamins as specified in Schedule 1 or 3

Appropriate instructions for preparation if preparation of the food is necessary, and a statement as to the importance of following those

instructions.
