HMMMM....What do you
think nonrenewable resources are?
Break it down...
Nonrenewable?
Resource?
NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES
A nonrenewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be re-made or re-grown in a reasonable amount of time….that is, we can
use it up faster than it can be remade.
COAL, PETROLEUM, AND GAS
Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are considered nonrenewable
because they can not be replenished in a short period of
time. These are called fossil fuels.
HOW IS COAL MADE ???
HOW ARE OIL AND GAS MADE ???
WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COAL AND OIL/GAS?
HMMMM....
If nonrenewable resources are resources that cannot be re-
made, what are renewable resources?
RENEWABLE RESOURCES
Renewable resources are natural resources that can be replenished in a short period of time.
● Plants, Animals, Soil, Trees
Inexhaustible Resources• We will never run out of these, we
have an endless supply.
• Air
• Sunlight
• Water (We can experience a “drought”, but water is still considered inexhaustible due to the water cycle)
SOLAR
Energy from the sun.
Why is energy from the sun
inexhaustible?
GEOTHERMAL
Energy from Earth’s heat.
Why is energy from the heat of the Earth
Inexhaustible?
WIND Energy from the wind.
Why is energy from
the wind inexhaustibl
e?
Of these 3 types of natural resources• Which should we try to use? Why?
• Which should we try to limit our use of? Why?
SUMMARY
What are the differences
between inexhaustible, nonrenewable and renewable
resources?
