The students were given a foundation programme in capital market along with an opportunity to interact with the managers from the industry. The discussions on current market news and portfolio management helped them in creating an investment culture from the very young age. The company was incorporated in the year 1946 and is a leading Cement Plant.

Department of Travel and Tourism organised an industrial visit for the second year

students to Hedge Equities Ltd, Palarivattom on 28th June. The students were given a

The department of Travel and Tourism had organised an industrial visit for the final year

students to Travancore Cements Ltd, Nattakom, Kottayam on 04-07 -2019 as part of their

extension activity. After clearing certain formalities, the students were permitted to enter the

factory premises and in detail were given an explanation on the history and working of the

company. The company was incorporated in the year 1946 and is a leading Cement Plant.

Report on the Industrial Visit to NIIST by I and II year M. Sc Chemistry Students on

09-10-2019

A group of 20 students and three teachers visited National Institute for Interdisciplinary

Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram on 09-10-2019. It was NIIST

foundation day and the institute was open for visit to the public. Dr. Joshy Joseph, Senior

Scientist, Department of Photosciences and Photonics warmly welcomed the students on their

arrival in the institute at 10 am. They were taken to show the Mass Spectrometer and the

NMR spectrometer. The theory behind the instruments were explained by Ms.Viji S,

technical staff at NIIST. They were shown how the instrument operated. They were also

shown UV Visible spectrometer, Raman Microscope, Fluorescence Spectrometer etc. They

visited all the labs. They were given training in setting up the column chromatography. The

students were accompanied by the teachers, Dr.Jinsa Mary Jacob, Baiju K.P and Dr.Sajin

Francis. The faculty also gave a presentation on the possibility of computational chemistry.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the visit since it was the first time that they were able to see

all the instruments. The visit ended by 4.00 p.m.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT - MBA

An Industrial Visit to ARJUNA NATURAL EXTRACTS, Coimbatore was held on July 19 th

2019 for the MBA 14th and MBA 15th of BMIM. The objective of the Industrial Visit was to

To study about how a Nutraceutical Manufacturing Industry works

To study about the structure and functions of the various process and different

departments

To understand how the management controls the industrial process in order to reach

the organizational objective

Under the Supervision of Rev. Father Jacob G Palackapilly, Prof. Dr. B. Hareendran and 4

faculties the Industrial Visit was organized. About 110 students from BMIM visited the

industry. The Co-Founder Dr. Benny Antony, Operations Manager, Mr. Ashok Kumar and

Accounts Manager, Mr. Binil George warmly welcomed the group to the industry.

An introduction session about the company, wherein a fair idea about how the whole

company process, the technologies used as well as the products generated, were detailed.

Samples of the products were also shown which gave a clear view about how end product

that were made. The company has only about 150 employees and therefore they made proper

and effective utilization of the employees.

A visit to the three plants – Red Spinach-Amla-Pomegranate extraction, Turmeric extraction

and Omega 3 Fish Oil extraction manufacturing plants were made. A detailed explanation

regarding the whole process of manufacturing the products along with the different stages of

the process were detailed. The main technologies used in each plant, the waste management

process were all meticulously observed. An interactive session with Dr. Benny Antony and

his team followed, where all the queries were answered. It was altogether a very fruitful and

knowledgeable session.

DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY: FIELD VISIT REPORT OF OPEN

COURSE STUDENTS

On 10th October 2019, 30 Open Course students accompanied by two faculty members of

Zoology Dept, Dr. Simi Joseph P and Miss Aswathy S went for field trip to Thrissur with an

aim to visit Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University , Mannuthy and

College Of Horticulture, Vellanikkara. A visit to the Ducks and Poultry farm, Quail

farming, and students were familiarised with other poultry birds like black hen and many

other different varieties of cocks and hens. The visit to Vermicomposting section was very

informative as it belonged to the Eisenia species. During the post lunch session, Mr.

Mohanan, a technical staff explained in detail about Apiculture, their behaviour, the uses of

honeybees, the by-products and the instruments associated with it like bee box, smoker,

Honey extractor etc.

Bee Hive Frames with Bee combs and honey bees

On August 3, 2019 the IInd DC zoology students of the 2018-21 batch visited the

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary at Kottayam and Thanneermukkam bund, a Ramsar site of

ecological importance at Alappuzha . The primary interest of the field trip was to learn

more about the wetland flora and fauna and the habits of the migratory birds that are

annual visitors of the bird sanctuary. The group comprised 39 students and 3 staff. The

field trip was educational and informative. The Kumarakom bird sanctuary is one of the

largest heronries in Kerala and home to many species of birds, fishes, amphibians, reptiles

and to a number of wetland medicinal plants.

Open Course students of 2019-20 batch were taken for a Field Visit to Sahrudaya Centre,

Ponnurunni. Dr. Simi Joseph P and Ms. Aswathy S accompanied the students.

REPORT OF FIELD STUDY – Department of Zoology(March 17th to 20th 2018)

Thirty five students of Final year degree Zoology were taken to Wayand, Mysore and Coorg

from 17 to 20th Mar 2018; visited places of scientific importance such as Ranganathitta Bird

Sanctuary, Zoo and places of historical importance like Mysore Palace & Museum. Two

faculty members, Dr. Priyalakshmi G and Dr. S. Manivannan, and lab staff Mr. Joshy thomas

REPORT OF FIELD TRIP TO CHIMMONY DAM & WILD LIFE SANCTUARY

A group of 38 students of I B.Sc. Zoology students accompanied by two faculty members Dr.

Simi Joseph P and Dr. S. Manivannan undertook a one-day trip to Chimmony Wildlife

sanctuary and Chimmony dam on 12-03-2018. The students also visited Kerala Agricultural

university, Snehatheeram beach and Kauthuka Park, an ecological Park where Peaceful co-

existence of creatures with nature has been established. The visit was a rare and refreshing

experience to the students.

2017- Department of Zoology

A group of 27 students of 3rd DC Zoology were taken to Mysore and Coorg from

01/03/2017- 04/03/2017 accompanied by three faculty members and a lab staff. The group

visited places of scientific importance such as Ranganathitta Bird Sanctuary, Zoo and places

of historical importance like Mysore Palace & Museum. A detailed field study report was

made by the students to be presented along with their practical records.

REPORT OF TRIP TO PEECHI ON MARCH 7, 2017

Thirty nine students of 2nd DC Zoology, accompanied by Prof. Erney E Paul went on a one

day field trip to Peechi on 7th March 2017. They started the journey by 5.00 am and reached

back by 7.30 pm.

REPORT OF FIELD TRIP (NATURE CAMP) TO CHINNAR WLS

A three day nature camp was attended by the second semester students (33 numbers) of the

department of Zoology from 10 to12 March 2017 as part of their academic fulfilment. Mr.

Haridas conducted a class about the “Procedures and manners to be followed inside the

forest” .Sanctuary authority arranged trekking within the limits. Students were guided by Mr.

Hari, Mr. Rangasami and Ms. Mini. Students also got an opportunity to learn about Hill

muthuvas and Hill pulayas, tribal community at Chinnar.

REPORT OF FIELD TRIP TO PONNAMKUDAMKAVU, THEVAKKAL

20 students of I DC Zoology were taken to Ponnamkudamkavu, a sacred grove in Kerala on

21.01.2017. The forest area is a rare combination of divinity and wilderness. The place is rich

in flora especially medicinal plants. Several talks were led by various environmentalists. Dr.

Anil Vydhyamangalam, Directory Vigas Thiruvananthapuram delivered on ‘Bharatheeya

Paristhithi Samskaram’. Dr. T V Rajeev, Scientist, Kerala Forest Research Department,

Peechi gave a lecture on ‘Arivilninnu Pravarthanangalilekku’ emphasizing on Environmental

Protection. Dr. T.K Babu, Director, Centre for Environment and Development talked on

‘Thannerthadam Samrakshanam’. Dr. Jibi Kuriakose, Asst. Professor, S.H.College Thevara

gave a class on ‘How can we play our role in protecting our environment’ by reducing plastic

pollution. A walk along the forest area with sounds of raindrops rustling down the green

canopy and chattering of squirrels gave students a lively tropical forest experience.

REPORT OF FIELD TRIP TO MATHIKETTAN SHOLA NP

From September 3rd- 5th 2016 Three days Nature camp to Mathikettana Shola National Park,

Vattavada, Munnar was organized by the Department of Zoology. 43 students attended the

camp, accompanied by Head of the Department Prof. Erney E. Paul, Emeritus Professors

Francis Joseph Edathrakary, Rev.Sr. Cleetus, Mrs Jiji Francis and Lab staff Joshy Thomas.

They also visited Chathurangara Paara, and settlements of Muthuva Tribe and went for

trekking to the interiors of the National Park. The camp was organized by Kerala Forests and

Wildlife Department. Sri. V.K.Francis, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Retd.) and Forest

Range Officer conducted classes on Shola forests.

Department of Commerce: Report of Industrial Visit to KSE Ltd

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce went for an industrial visit on 19th June 2018.

Our journey started at 7:56 am on the day with 17 students and 2 teachers.

KSE Ltd

KSE Ltd stands For Kerala Solvent Extractions Ltd, and is situated in Irinjalakkuda, Thrissur

District, State Of Kerala ,India. It is a company engaged in the manufacture of cattle feed, oil

cake processing and dairy products. V Shyam sir (executive engineer) explained about the

working of all the machines and technology used there and he explained how the company

uses a space constraint method for production.

Plant Visit

There were 2 plants and it is a 24*7 hours working plant with the help of 3 shifts. There are

889 staffs working in the industry. The company has a separate quality control department

and laboratory to test and ensure the quality of their products. Different raw materials are

mixed in the first stage. Then it is bifurcated into various batches of 3000 kg raw materials

like rice bran cakes, various seeds and maize are used. The machines used are fully automatic

and computerised. According to the formula set, batching is done and the product goes

through various quality control measures and then it is cooled. Later it is weighed using a

mechanism using compressed air

Talk By Head of Accounts Department

After the plant visit, we had a talk by Anil sir from the accounts department. He explained

that KSE Ltd is the first oil extraction company in Kerala using an imported technology from

Belgium. It is a listed company in Bombay stock exchange having a current stock price of

Rs.3290/-. The company is having 600 distributers. Unskilled labourers from a radius of 5km

are chosen as employees by the firm as part of their social responsibility. We further enquired

about their competition and marketing strategies. The group also visited Chimmony wild

life sanctuary, a national park located along the Western Ghats in Thrissur.
