ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE
PLANNING DEPARTMENT
• Construction planning is a fundamental and challenging activity in the management and execution of construction projects.
• It involves the choice of technology, the definition of work tasks, the estimation of the required resources and durations for individual tasks, and the identification of any interactions among the different work tasks.
• Developing the construction plan is a critical task in the management of construction.
QUALITY ASSURANCE & QUALITY CHECK DEPARTMENT
Quality is the key component which propels performance and defines leadership traits. At L&T Construction, Quality Standards have been internalized and documented in Quality Assurance manuals. L&T Construction recognizes the crucial significance of the human element in ensuring quality. Structured training programes ensure that every L&T employee is conscious of his/her role and responsibility in extending L&T Construction’s tradition of leadership through quality.
PROJECT QUALITY PLAN• The Project Quality Plan is prepared and formulated
as a Management Summary of Quality related activities required to meet the terms of contract. This Quality plan sets out the Management practices and describes the Quality Management System based on PDCA (Plan, Check, Do and Act) Principle. The Project Quality Plan comprises of two sections:
A : Volume-I B : Volume-II
VARIOUS LAB TESTS PERFORMED
• O.G.L. sampling and testing• Embankment and borrow area soil sampling and
testing-Grain size analysis, Proctor test, Atterberg’s Limits test, Free swell index, CBR (required only for sub-grade).
• Aggregate Testing-Source of aggregate and sand is decided and then testing is done.
• Source of Bitumen and Cement is decided and testing is done.
TESTS PERFORMED ON CEMENT
Tests performed- • Consistency test• Initial Setting Time and Final Setting Time test• Fineness test• Mortar Cube Strength test ( 3,7 and 28 days
strength)
TESTS PERFORMED ON SOIL
Tests Performed- • Grain Size Analysis, • Free Swell Index Test• Atterberg’s Limit Test (Liquid Limit and Plastic Limit
Test)• Proctor Test• C.B.R Test• Specific Gravity Test • Field Dry Density Test (Sand Replacement/Core Cutter
Method)
TESTS PERFORMED ON AGGREGATES
Tests Performed- • Gradation• Flakiness Index and Elongation Index test• Aggregate Impact Value test• Los Angeles Abrasion Value test• Water Absorption test• Specific gravity test.
BORROW AREA TESTING (SOIL STABILISATION)
• Testing is done according to IRC:37-2012.• Cement is added as 1%,2% or 3% by weight of soil.
Lime can also be used depending upon soil.• Casting of mould for CBR is done at MDD and OMC.• 7 days curing of mould is done and then it is kept in
soaked condition for 4 days.• CBR test is performed and CBR value for different
percentage of cement is calculated.
CONCRETE MIX DESIGNIs Code Used- IS 10262: 2009Steps Involved:
• Target strength for mix proportioning• Standard deviation• Selection of Mix Proportions• Calculation of cementitious material• Estimation of Coarse Aggregate proportion• Estimate of fine aggregate proportion
ROAD DEPARTMENTMajor Road Works Involved are:• Clearing and Grubbing
• Setting out and Levelling
• Earthwork in Embankment (filling)
• Earthwork in subgrade (filling)
• Construction of sub-base course
• Construction of Wet Mix Macadam (WMM)
• Construction of Prime Coat and Tack Coat
• Construction of DBM and Bituminous Concrete
• Construction of Pavement Quality Concrete
• Miscellaneous works

FIELD TEST-SAND REPLACEMENT TEST
• The apparatus - sand pouring cylinder, cylindrical calibrating container, soil cutting and excavating tools, glass plate
• The test is conducted in 2 stages –
A) Calibration of apparatus - For determination of weight of sand in the cone of pouring cylinder; For determination of bulk density of sand.
B) Measurement of In situ density

SITE PHOTOGRAPHS
• Concrete mix is poured into the bore hole using tremie pipe which is 1600mm in length and 200mm in diameter. The concrete that is being poured moves the slurry up which is chiselled after drying.
SURVEY DEPARTMENT• A Survey is a data collection tool
used to gather information about individuals.
• Civil Surveying is the technique , profession and science of accurately determining terrestrial position of points , distances and angle between them .
• A civil engineering job always starts off by a surveying job .

Total StationAuto LevelDumpy Level
AUTO LEVEL• Auto level is used for
determining elevations.• Leveling is still a cost-
effective way to produce elevation data with sub-meter accuracy. A Auto level is shown in the photograph.
FIXING OF ROAD ALIGNMENT, CENTER LINE & TOE LINE
• The Project Reference centre line of proposed cross section will be fixed by surveyor and marked on ground by either pegs /chainage boards or by suitable means at site for ready reference. This marking shall be done @ 50m interval on straight portion & 20m interval on curve portion.
• TBM shall be fixed at every 200m on ROW line. The pillar shall be 150*150*750 mm in square or 150mm diameter in case of round shape with a steel rod embedded in it. The pillar shall be established on hard ground and concreted with M15 Grade.
