What to expect in 2018

Post-harvest Loss & WasteShallot and tuna fish are important to the Indonesian diet. Yet, the post-har-vest losses of shallot are up to 40% and around 15 – 25% of the tuna fish in the domestic value chain is lost. For Shallot, we facilitate the selection, adaptation, and adoption of new in-novations to prevent losses which is applicable for shallot farmers across Indonesia. The I-PLAN approach will be applied to reduce losses in tuna fish by building an alliance and B2B engine.

BoPInc, Postharvest Network and GAIN (PLAN approach) are our partners. If you are working in these two sectors and interested to mini mizing posthar-vest loss, you are very welcome to join us!

Urban FarmingFAO stated that in the year of 2050, the world population grows up to 10 billion and almost 70% of them will prefer to live in the urban areas. As the amount of urban citizens is increasing in many cities in Indonesia, the food supplies are at stake. Urban farming is one of the solutions to provide afforda-ble fresh and healthy food for urban citizens. Together with network mem-bers we are exploring feasible models and techniques for urban farming as a sustainable business through Jakar-ta Green School and profitable urban community gardens. We invite everyone who is interested to set up sustainable and profitable urban farming in Indonesia to join this programme!

Youth in Agribusiness In 2014 and 2016, our Young Agripre-neurs Ambassador attracted more than 500 young farmers across Indo-nesia, 18 of them actively encourage youngster to work in agriculture, and covered by media in more than 80 ti-tles. This program which comprises of series of mentoring, training, and events will be held once again this year with members such as Oxfam and KRKP.

We also facilitate a collaboration in strengthening agriculture vocational school (SMK Pertanian) with Van Hall Larenstein University and Program Di-ploma IPB by involving companies in ruminant sector for curriculum devel-opment, learning method, and labour market alignment.

Network Approach

For the last decade, Indonesia is improving food and nutrition security through a set of good policy decisions and enhancement efforts in the agriculture sector. Ho-wever, the remaining challenges in agriculture need to be addressed to prevent stagnation and stimulate new opportunities. The complex challenges need to be tack-led by multi-stakeholder collaboration to gain bigger im-pact. As a network, AgriProFocus is a neutral convener, bringing together agripreneurs, private sector compa-nies, civil society organisations, knowledge institutions and governments together.

The network secretariat organises ánd facilitates the place for members to meet and work, learn and influen-ce together. In our programmes (see below) the network character is central. We offer linking, learning and lea-dership solutions to tackle the challenges brought up by our members and partners.

Thematic priorities

The global AgriProFocus network identified four overar-ching thematic areas that will guide us in the years 2018-2022: Inclusive agribusiness, Climate smart agribusiness, Circular economy agribusiness and Nutrition-sensitive agribusiness. These four themes are also closely aligned with the objectives of the Dutch development agenda re-garding food security.

Nutrition sensitive agribusiness in line with circular eco-nomy will be the core themes in 2018 for the Indonesian network. We also promote an inclusive approach towards agribusiness to enable young agripreneurs to reach their optimum to improve agriculture sector and their well-being.

We are open to explore other programme opportunities with our members regarding these themes.
