Type and Extent of Funding:

• Unit exchange international and domestic travel support by economy class and shortest

route

• Local hospitality and per diem for visiting scientists (including PhD & post doc scholars)

with short stays up to 2 weeks and long stays up to 3 months

• Visa, airport transfer and medical insurance costs

• Associated cost for dissemination of research and education materials and reports

• INR 40-45 lakhs for a two-year period

Funding Duration:

• Funding is generally granted for two years.

• Proposals are extensively peer reviewed both in India and the United States.

The Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), established under an agreement

between the Governments of India and the United States of America in March 2000, is an

autonomous, not-for-profit society that promotes and catalyzes Indo-US bilateral collaborations in

science, technology, engineering and biomedical research through substantive interaction among

government, academia and industry.

IUSSTF solicits proposals for activities, events, and initiatives that promote interactions between

the scientific and research communities in India and the US, such as:

• Bilateral Workshop/ Symposium/ Conference

• Training Program and Advanced Schools

• Indo-US R&D Joint Networked Center

• Indo-US Public-Private Joint Networked Center

Indo-US Bilateral Workshops/ Symposia/ Conferences/Training Program/ Advanced Schools

Aims:

• Dissemination of information

• Awareness creation through substantive interactions between Indian and American

scientists and researchers with the explicit aim to develop sustained linkages

• Enhance scientific knowledge and awareness through a devised pedagogical course

including conducted practical classes by assimilating a mix of faculties and trainees from

both countries

• Proposal should be designed around a theme of common interest that has a high potential

for generating follow-up activities

Eligibility:

• Faculty/ scientists/ researchers from all science and technology disciplines working at

Indian and American institutions (academia, laboratories and industry)

Type and Extent of Funding:

• International and Domestic Airfare (by economy excursion class & shortest route not

exceeding prescribed limits)

• Visa fees

• Accommodation

• Other event costs

• INR 10-12 lakhs

Proposal Evaluation:

• Proposals are extensively peer reviewed both in India and the United States.

Proposal Submission:

Proposal to be submitted jointly (as a single document) by both Indian and US Principal

Investigators to:

Indo-US Networked Joint Centers

The aim of these Networked Joint Centers is to enable Indian and American scientists from academia and laboratories to carry out joint research activities by leveraging already existing infrastructure and funding through a linkage established by a virtual networked Center.

Aims of Indo-US Knowledge R & D Networked Joint Centers:

• To encourage joint project implementation on focal areas of thematic and knowledge research through networking thus, paving way to sustainable interactions by promoting excellence and developing long term relationship based on synergy of activities.

• To provide opportunities for integrating research with education.

Aims of Indo-US Public- Private Networked Joint Centers:

• To foster academia-industry partnership by promoting pre-commercial R & D activities having potential towards applied research and product development.

• To best capitalize on the scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship in translating ideas from bench to market place.

Eligibility:

• Qualified researchers from all Science, Technology and Engineering disciplines working at Indian and American research institutions drawn from Academia, Laboratories and Industries

• Minimum of two Indian and two American separate institutional partners (2+2 partnership mode)

• All partners to have intellectual and financial stake in the joint Center activity by contributing towards resources required for the project execution including the associated salary costs. Proof of existing funding support has to be provided with the proposal.

• Program Requirements

– Research topic of high scientific quality, originality and relevance.

– Research topic to cover thematic and basic science areas of topical and mutual interest.
