• Local, non-voting membership, is open to all individuals who will also be granted e-Membership in ISOC, also non-voting status.  Such local, non-voting membership is also offered to members of associated organizations in our area.

• All Corporate Members and Sponsors  are subject to review and acceptance by the ISOC-LA Board of Directors or a committee duly designated or organized by the Board of Directors.

WHAT• Voting status of, and dues for, membership in the Internet

Society (ISOC) are established by ISOC, the international organization, and not by the Internet Society Los Angeles Chapter (ISOC-LA).

• Voting status of, and dues for, membership in ISOC-LA are established by ISOC-LA and not by ISOC.

• e-Membership in ISOC-LA is not the same as E-Membership in ISOC.  ISOC's E-Membership is offered to qualifying countries to allow individuals in these countries to participate in ISOC activities and receive certain benefits of membership. Prior to this initiative, many great people were excluded from ISOC's work because they could not afford the dues.  ISOC E-Membership includes ISOC voting privileges.

e-Membership• e-Membership in ISOC-LA  is a non-voting membership primarily

offered to members of associated organizations and others who desire information about ISOC and ISOC-LA programs and activities and some level of participation in programs and activities.  Associated organizations are defined for ISOC-LA as those represented on the Industry Relations Committee of the Digital Coast Roundtable and others additionally recognized by the ISOC-LA Board of Directors.  Since this amounts to a new category of ISOC, membership, it is being introduced as a demonstration project.  The responsibility for all ISOC communication with e-Members will be assumed by ISOC-LA unless otherwise directed by ISOC.  The requirement for e-Membership is an email address to be added to both the ISOC and ISOC-LA member email lists, a desire to receive information about ISOC and ISOC-LA programs and activities, and an interest in the Internet and the goals and objectives of ISOC and ISOC-LA.

DUES• ISOC-LA provides the ability to combine dues with ISOC.  If a

person is already an ISOC member and wants to be a voting member of ISOC-LA, payment of the dues for the next year of the combined local and international dues will provide local, voting membership in ISOC-LA, to be effective through the period of their international membership.  In other words, local dues for one year will cover the period of ISOC membership, up to almost 2 years for the initial period of combined membership.

• The amount of combined dues for ISOC and ISOC-LA is simply the result of adding the appropriate membership level for ISOC membership for one year to the amount for the appropriate membership level for ISOC-LA membership for one year.

Alternate Chapter Dues• Because a person or organization my choose to become a

member of ISOC and not choose to be a member of ISOC-LA, our demonstration project is identifying those individuals and organizations.  We offer them the ability to become a member of ISOC-LA but the ISOC-LA portion of their dues is held in a separate fund for assisting in the formation of new ISOC Chapters that may be more suitable to their needs.  These individuals and organizations may have a vote on matters involving the use of the alternate Chapter funds but will not have a vote for the Officers of ISOC-LA.
