collective rights of groups in Canada?

Why do some groups have collective rights and not others?

Why are collective rights important to all Canadians?

Create a definition for the terms below:

First Nations:– Umbrella name of the diverse Aboriginal

Peoples Metis:

– One of mixed European & Aboriginal Ancestry

Inuit:– “The People” – native inhabitants of the

arctic north (Eskimo means “Eaters of Raw Flesh”)

Anglophone:– An English speaking Canadian (1st language)

Francophone:– A French speaking Canadian (1st language)

Collective Rights & Legislation First Nations:

– Indian Act & Treaties (Historic & Modern)

Metis:– Manitoba Act & Modern Treaties

Inuit:– Modern Treaties

With a partner, come up with a list for all the people groups you can think of in Canada.

If you were a member of a culturally distinct group, what three things would you want the law to protect for you?

Why are those three freedoms so important to you?
