Message from the INDIN 2015 General Co-Chairs

It is our pleasure and honour to welcome you to the 13th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN), sponsored by IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and Anglia Ruskin University and held in Cambridge, between 22 - 24 July 2015. The INDIN Conference is co-organised by Anglia Ruskin University and IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and technically co-sponsored by the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The purpose of the IEEE INDIN international conference is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of the state-of-art and future perspectives of industrial information technologies. Industry experts, researchers and academics are gathering together to share ideas and experiences surrounding frontier technologies, breakthroughs, innovative solutions, research results, as well as initiatives related to industrial informatics and their applications.

This is the 13th edition of the conference, with most recent previous editions being hosted as follows: Vienna, Austria (2007), Daejeon, Korea (2008), Cardiff, UK (2009), Osaka, Japan (2010), Lisbon, Portugal (2011), Beijing, China (2012), Bochum, Germany (2013) and Porto Alegre, Brazil (2014).

We gratefully praise and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the technical committee, including many officers and volunteers of IEEE, as well as the invaluable contribution from the special session organisers, track chairs and reviewers, who have all worked hard to make this conference possible. The local organising committee consists of members of universities and industry in the UK, as well as student volunteers. We express our gratitude for their enthusiastic hard work.

Together with the sponsors and technical co-sponsor, we welcome you to the conference with wonderful surroundings, interesting menus and well equipped rooms, to complement an interesting and attractive technical programme and four plenary presentations from prestigious speakers.

Welcome Address from the Technical Programme Co-Chairs

On behalf of the Technical Program Committee, we welcome you to the 2015 International Conference on Industrial Informatics. This conference is at its 13th edition and provides an international forum for expert discussions on the latest research and developments in industrial informatics and associated technologies.

The core themes of the conference, reflected in the 10 core technical tracks, are better known and will need little introduction to our delegates but a feature this year is the large number (27) of special sessions. These range from sessions on Smart Grid and Energy technologies to Embedded Systems, Information Management, Automation, Health Informatics and also include sessions on Internet of Things related themes / modern communication technologies. The range of special sessions bears witness to the exciting developments taking place in the industrial informatics technologies and of course to the health and future continuity of the Industrial Electronics Society's conferences.

A notable feature of this conference is the offering of tutorials which are free to registered conference delegates. INDIN 2015 is pleased to offer five tutorials, of which one is a practical demonstration of informatics applied to manufacturing (Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory, Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge). The other tutorials are concerned respectively with standards, the Internet of Things, wireless communications and the emergency of industrial cyber-physical systems.

Whilst research is a fascinating subject in its own right, we must remember that the main aim of our activity is that of technology transfer, wealth creation and the benefiting of both present and future society. It is therefore appropriate that this is the theme touched upon collectively by the four plenary presentations.

‘Great Britain - With 5G can the UK recover its pre-eminent position in the world of communications?’ (ProfWilliam Webb)

‘Resilience and Customisation in the Industrial Supply Chain: The Role of Information’ (Prof Duncan McFarlane)

‘Is Time Really Money?’ (Mr Kang Lee)

‘Cyber-Physical Systems: Contradicting Requirements as Drivers for Innovation’ (Prof Michael Heiss)

We very much hope that you find the Technical Programme enjoyable, stimulating and precipitous of discussion. On behalf of the Technical Programme Committee, we would like to thank you all for attending and supporting INDIN 2015 and helping to make it a success. We hope you have a fulfilling and enjoyable time in Cambridge and will take away fond memories of both the conference and your stay in this remarkable, historic city.

Keynote Speakers

Thursday 23rd July, 09:15 – 09:50, Auditorium

Speaker: Professor William Webb The Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK

Presentation: Great Britain - With 5G can the UK recover its pre-eminent position in the world of communications?

Speaker Biography William is CEO of the Weightless SIG, the standards body developing a new global M2M technology. He is a Director at Webb Search, an independent consultancy, and President of the IET - Europe's largest Professional Engineering body.

He was one of the founding directors of Neul, a company developing machine-to-machine technologies and networks, which was formed at the start of 2011. Prior to this William was a Director at Ofcom where he managed a team providing technical advice and performing

research across all areas of Ofcom's regulatory remit. He also led some of the major reviews conducted by Ofcom including the Spectrum Framework Review, the development of Spectrum Usage Rights and most recently cognitive or white space policy. Previously, William worked for a range of communications consultancies in the UK in the fields of hardware design, computer simulation, propagation modelling, spectrum management and strategy development. William also spent three years providing strategic management across Motorola's entire communications portfolio, based in Chicago.

William has published 13 books, over 100 papers, and 18 patents. He is a Visiting Professor at Surrey and Southampton Universities, an Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin, a Board member of Cambridge Wireless, other oversight Boards and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IEEE and the IET. His biography is included in multiple Who's Who publications around the world. William has a first class honours degree in electronics, a PhD and an MBA.

Abstract While we are only just deploying 4G wireless communications systems, attention is already turning to what 5G might involve. The UK has a strong position in 5G research with the establishment of the 5G Innovation Centre at Surrey University and perhaps half of the top ten Universities in the world in mobile communications research. But can it convert this into innovation, start-ups, jobs and benefits to the economy?

To answer this question we need to look at what 5G will actually involve including the Internet of Things, Wi-Fi integration and ultra-low latency "tactile Internet" capabilities. We need to understand the key actors around the globe from academics to standards bodies, governments, funding partners, multi-nationals and more. And we need to probe into the murky world of just how research makes it into mass-market handsets.

We will finish with some long-range predictions as to what 5G will be and who will be the winners and losers in the process of getting there.

Thursday 23rd July, 09:55 – 10:30, Auditorium Speaker: Professor Duncan McFarlane University of Cambridge, UK Presentation: Resilience and Customisation in the Industrial Supply Chain: The Role of

Information

Speaker Biography Duncan McFarlane is Professor of Industrial Information Engineering and Head of the Distributed Information & Automation Laboratory at Cambridge University Engineering Department; Director of the Cambridge Auto ID Lab; and a Fellow of the IET. Duncan has been involved in the design and operation of industrial automation and information systems for twenty five years. His research work is focused in the areas of distributed industrial automation, reconfigurable systems, RFID integration, track and trace

systems, product intelligence, asset information management and valuing industrial information. He is also Co-Founder and Chairman of RedBite Solutions Ltd - an industrial object tracking and visualisation company. Between 2006-11, Duncan was Professor of Service and Support Engineering which was supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering and BAE Systems. He is currently a co-investigator on the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction and Principal Investigator on four projects with the Boeing company. Abstract This talk will centre on approaches for analysing and managing two growing challenges being faced in today’s industrial supply chains, namely resilience and customisation. Resilience to disruptions along the supply chain has long been recognised as an important challenge, and as supply chains continue to reduce inventory levels to a minimum, and operate in so called Just In Time mode the vulnerability to disruptions is increasing. Further recent increases in the demand for customised orders and goods has been fuelled by the rise of e-commerce and with it the ability for a customer to tailor an order and its delivery conditions. The presentation will discuss a series of projects in which improved use of information and control strategies are being deployed as a means of improving the performance of aspects of the supply chain in the face of disruption and order customisation. As part of the presentation we will also discuss tools for assessing the value of these information and control improvements. The talk will draw on case studies in the aerospace, white goods and consumer goods sectors.

Friday 24th July, 09:00 – 09:30, Auditorium Speaker: Mr Kang Lee National Institute of Standards & Technology, USA Presentation: Is Time Really Money?

Speaker Biography Kang Lee is currently a research associate working on secure wireless platforms for smart manufacturing systems at the Networked Control Systems Group of the Intelligent System Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Kang's current research interests include performance measurements of factory equipment networks for real-time communication, monitoring and control, and precision time synchronization of networked components and equipment for smart manufacturing.

Over the years, Kang has organized and chaired a number of conferences and workshops, such as Precision Clock Synchronization, Wireless Sensor Standards, Sensors for Industry, Wireless Sensors for Factory Floor, and Instrumentation and Measurement Technology. Kang is the chairman of the IEEE I&M Society's Technical Committee TC-9 on Sensor Technology overseeing the development of the family of eight IEEE 1451 smart transducer standards for wireline and wireless sensor networks and the IEEE 1588 standard. Through Kang's effort, the IEEE 1451 standards have become ISO/IEC/IEEE 21451 standards and IEEE 1588 was adopted as IEC 61588. IEEE 1588 is recognized worldwide as the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) standard, a known brand for IEEE-SA. Kang is an IEEE Life Fellow and has authored numerous papers on smart sensor networks and standards and precision time synchronization. Kang has given a number of invited keynotes on the subjects of smart sensors, RFID, Internet of Things, and precision time synchronization. Kang has been AdCom Member of I&M Society as well as the Sensors Council. The EE Times profiled Kang as one of twenty-nine innovators in the world in 2006. Kang received his BSEE from the Johns Hopkins University and Master of Science from the University of Maryland. Abstract Benjamin Franklin gave the advice 'time is money' to a trademan. How is that related to us in the technical world? In applications where timestampings and correlations of data and events are important, how accurately one can pinpoint or measure the times the events took place are paramount. Here comes the precision time protocol (PTP), which can help to synchronize measurements in networked measurement and control systems to high accuracy - in the order of submicrosecond and beyond. IEEE 1588, a standardized precision clock synchronization protocol, also referred to as PTP worldwide, is a standard designed for local systems requiring accuracies beyond those attainable using NTP. It is also designed for applications where a GPS receiver at each node is too expensive or GPS signals are inaccessible. Let us see how PTP can get to 'time is money'.

Speaker: Professor Michael Heiss Siemens Corporate Technology RTC ITP, Austria

Presentation: Cyber-Physical Systems: Contradicting Requirements as Drivers for Innovation

Speaker Biography Michael Heiss is Head of the Research Group Cyber-Physical Systems at Siemens Corporate Technology and Professor for Innovation at the Vienna University of Technology (Technische Universität Wien).

He studied Electrical Engineering in Vienna, made a post-doc at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the field of self-learning systems, habilitated in the field of control engineering at Technische Universität Wien, started his industry career at Bosch and is

since 1996 with Siemens in various leading positions for Knowledge, Innovation and Technology Management, e.g. global Vice President for Knowledge, Innovation, and Technology Management at Siemens IT Solutions and Services, or Principal for Open Innovation and Scouting at the Siemens Chief Technology Office, where he was globally responsible for the Open Innovation Networks at Siemens.

He is Vice-Chair of IEEE Austria and Chair of the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS), Chapter Central Europe.

Abstract The talk will give an industrial view on cyber-physical systems (CPS). It turns out that there are not only technical challenges to overcome but also fundamental dilemmas, e.g. increasing complexity vs. the demand to reduce engineering effort, or country-specific laws and regulations vs. technical possibilities, or holistic optimization vs. optimization of own business, etc. Contradicting requirements and conflicting trends force us to re-think the task of interconnecting services of distributed CPS.

If two requirements for the same system are in conflict to each other there are three options: give up, change the requirements, or innovate. The third option, to innovate, is the most interesting and therefore the focus of this talk. We show that conflicting requirements are drivers for innovation.

Instructions for Session Chairs

Session Chairs are asked to collect their packs from the Registration Desk well before their session. To ensure smooth running of the conference, Session Chairs are kindly asked to strictly respect the schedule. An evaluation form should be completed for each session by the Session Chairs and left at the registration desk.

Oral Sessions

All rooms will be equipped with a computer, a video projector and a screen. Presentations must be downloaded to the computer before the session starts. Authors have been asked to meet Session Chairs at the session room a few minutes before the beginning of the session and to provide them with their presentations (in MS Powerpoint or PDF) and short printed biographies (50 words maximum). The length of oral presentations is restricted to 20 minutes, including questions. The authors are strongly advised to keep their oral presentation within 15 minutes and to leave 5 minutes for discussion with the audience and change of speaker. Session Chairs are kindly asked to closely monitor the timing against the schedule. In case of “no show”, the session must be either suspended until the time the next paper is scheduled or closed if there are no more papers in the session.

Dialogue Sessions (Posters)

At the beginning of the session, each author will have 2-3 minutes available to briefly describe to the audience the main objectives, accomplishments and conclusions of their work. After that, the Session Chairs must promote interaction among authors and attendees.

Instructions for Presenters of Papers

Oral Sessions

Authors are kindly requested to meet their Session co-chairs in the session room a few minutes before the scheduled time in order to download their presentation to the computer. They have to provide the co-chairs with a Powerpoint or PDF presentation, as well as a short (50 words maximum) printed biography. Authors must ensure that all fonts needed are embedded in their presentation files. The files can be downloaded to the computer from a USB key. The use of the author’s computer will not be allowed, in order for sessions to run smoothly. The length of the presentation is restricted to 20 minutes, including questions. Authors are strongly advised to keep their oral presentation within 15 minutes (about 15 slides) and to allow 5 minutes for discussion with the audience and change of speaker.

Dialogue Sessions (Posters)

Authors will have 2-3 minutes available to briefly describe to the audience the main objectives, accomplishments and conclusions of their work. After that, interaction will be promoted by Session Chairs among authors and attendees. Discussions will be supported by a poster, which the authors should bring to the room and setup at least 10 minutes before the session’s scheduled start time. Please note that no electronic means will be available for the oral introductory part of the presentation. A poster preparation is a difficult but rather interesting exercise. It is not permitted to simply pin up a plain copy of the published paper. A poster display should catch the eye of the viewer with large, significant images, present a logical sequence of materials in an attractive visual way and should not require the reader to examine detailed text. The advised maximum size is 106 cm height, 84 cm width. Please keep approximately to these dimensions. Each poster will be hung by the presenters using pins provided by conference organizers a few minutes before the session. Posters must be removed in the last 10 minutes of the session.
