India's Daughter: Analyzing the ban on the BBC Documentary on the Nirbhaya rape case

You are sick if it did sensitize your testosterone. You are stupid to realize it as demeaning or un-

patriotic either. And, you really need an emtional-translator if you did find it an attempt of glorification of those accused. Factually, it's a documentary of a brutal social truth.

On the eve of International Women's Day, I am sad to recapitulate how narrow we have been in our journey towards empowering females in our society. A feeble percentage of women in education, job

and politics coupled with the colorful remarks by the top leaders do tell us the story. The sexist remarks and khap panchayats do tell us the story. The eve-teasings and molestations in and outside the walls of stay do tell us the story. The imposed ban on an effort documenting the feelings of the parents of the rape victim, Nirbhaya (aka Jyoti), and the attitude of the rapist and his lawyer do tell

us the story. You just need to be sensitive to be able to read. Does that ring any bells.

BBC Storyville 'India's daughter' is educative, informative, insightful and is mirroring the Indian psyche. It's our collective truth howsoever hard we say we are different. Curbing the display of the disgust against heinous crimes, physically or narratively, is simply a moral boost to the traditional viewpoints riding on which the horrific rape was done.

No victim is misinterpreted or maligned in the harrowing short-film by Leslee Udwin. It may be saddening to watch the film, but the ban is an unjustified act of censorship and dictatorship. Why this manifestation of an Ostrich-mentality, when what we actually need is the onset of a good threads of discussions, debate and a societal overhaul.

बीबीसी स्टोरीपविे िेत ुकृत 'भारत की बेटी', एक लशक्षाप्रद, जानकारीपूणा, व्याविाकरक रचना और भारतीय मानस की प्रततबबम्ब िै। चािे क्जतना भी भयावि िो ककन्त ुयिी िमारा सामूहिक सच िै क्जसे िम चचल्िा चचल्िा के भी बदि निी ंसकते। शारीकरक या किात्मक माध्यम द्वारा जघन्य अपराधों के खखिाफ घणृा का प्रदशान रोकने से, वो आडमबर पवचारधारा और अचधक प्रगाढ़ िोगी क्जस पर सवार िोकर बिात्कार ककया गया था।

अपराध के लशकार ककसी व्यक्तत कक कोई गित व्याख्या या द:ुखद मानिातन िेस्िी उद्वीन ने अपनी इस किात्मक

शॉटा कफल्म में निी ंककया िै। यि कफल्म देख के आप उदास और पवचारशीि िो सकते िैं, िेककन इस पर कोई प्रततबधं

सेंसरलशप और तानाशािी से पकरपूणा एक अनचुचत काया िै। िमें वास्तव में ज़रूरत िै चचाा, बिस और एक सामाक्जक

बदिाव के धागों की शुरुआत की ना कक एक शुतुरमुगा - मानलसकता की इस अलभव्यक्तत की।

यि प्रततबंध महििा बिात्कार के पवरोध में स़िकों पे उतरी उन सभी महििाओं एव ंपूणा रूप में पूरे नागकरक समाज के

साथ सरकारी बिात्कार िै। श्री प्रधानमंत्री कायाािय कम से कम अब कुछ बोिो। यि बात तो सांप्रदातयक भी निी ंिै।
