    India today is home to

    about 335 medical colleges

    that churn out about 30,000

    undergraduate students a

    year. At any given time,

    there are a total of about

    100,000 undergraduate

    medical students in India.An urgent need was felt to

    establish a be-all-and-end-

    all umbrella organization

    for all medical students in

    India. Hence, we came

    forward with the

    establishment of the Indian

    Medical Students'

    Association.

    Aims & Objectives of IMSA:

    To organize Annual Medical Conventions and other Medicalconferences.

    To promote the interest and welfare of medical students with supportfrom the experienced achievers of medical field.

    To empower students with soft skills like management, leadership, andconflict management at a young age to ease the transition from student-

    doctors to medical-professionals. To promote understanding in medical and health problems as well as to

    share experiences in solving them

    To uphold humanitarian ideals and medical ethics To create National as well as International contacts among Medical

    Students and hence, increase networking and encourage cooperation

    amongst the future doctors.

    To foster unity and promote profound inter-personal relationshipsamongst its members

    To promote research programmes and attitude among medical students. To carry out nationwide mass health campaigns related to health

    problems like epidemics and natural calamities of the Nation

    To promote and encourage medical youth to fulfil their duties towardsSociety by providing Social Service.

    Helping poor Students for Educational Development throughSponsorship Assistance.

    Medical Students of the Nation irrespective of the University

    Publications:

    Research Activities

    International Medical Journal of Students Research (IMJSR) An online open-access INDEXED journal of medical research which is devoted to the

    promotion and publication of young medical researchers throughout the world. The Editorial Board of IMJSR comprises of members from 25 countries.

    Besides publication it also helps and guides students in writing and carrying out

    research activities.

    Scientific e-newsletter: SYNAPSE Synapse is the e-newsletter that encompasses know-hows about different fields of

    medical science and provides the reader a unique and interesting way to get acquainted

    with multidimensional information.

    Synapse is very popular among medical students and we released 41 issues so far.

    The IMSA-IOB Collaborative Project IMSA with the support and able guidance of Dr. Akhilesh Pandey and the Institute of

    Bioinformatics, Bangalore is now committed to contribute to the task of expanding the

    databases that will form the indispensible part of medicine at both bench and bedside

    in the near future.

    At present work is being done on the Plasma Proteome Database.

    Events in the Past:

    Golden Jubilee ILLUMINATI at AFMC, Pune Illuminati is an initiative on the part of ARMED FORCES MEDICAL COLLEGE, to promote research

    among the undergraduates as well as providing them with a platform and a worthy audience.

    Golden Jubilee Illuminati was held on the 13-14 August, 2011 with collaboration with IMJSR and theICMR.

    Registration Fees: 500 INR/head (accommodation included)

    Attendance: 250

    RIMSCON at RIMS, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh RIMSCON is a regional conference of medical students comprising of keynote lectures, workshops, oral

    and poster presentation.

    It was organized at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadapa

    Registration Fees: 300 INR/head (accommodation included)

    Attendance: 200

    OSMECON 2011It was the First South Asian Medical Students' Research Conference Organized by Osmania Medical

    College and IMJSR and was held on 25th and 26th of September, 2011.

    KARMIC (Kolkata Annual Research and Medical International Research Congress)

    - At Kolkata, West Bengal

    - KARMIC-2012 is one of the biggest events of the medical students in India. It's an attempt by

    the Indian Medical Students' Association to act as a connecting link between the routine

    curriculum of medical education and the recent advances of medical science. The Congress aims

    to be a cobweb of the upcoming pioneers of medical science of the country. It also aims to bringtogether the Indian and the Global Medical students fraternity on a common stage to bridge the

    gap by exchange of knowledge and experiences.

    India's First Marathon from Medical students and Doctors for a health awareness campaign.

    Objectives: To raise awareness regarding sedentary lifestyle in our city.

    "Practice what you preach"- Mahathma Gandhi

    aptly holds true for our campaign as we showed the population practically by indulging

    ourselves in exercise.

    Theme: Awakening the ill effects of sedentary lifestyle

    Participants: Medical students and doctors (About 2000 people participated in this event)

    The Kolkata Annual Research and Medical International Congresswww.karmic-imsa.in

    KARMIC-2012 was one of the biggest events of the medical students in India. It's an attempt

    by the Indian Medical Students' Association to act as a connecting link between the routine

    curriculum of medical education and the recent advances of medical science.

    Derived from the Sanskrit word "karma", which means "deed" or "act" and more broadly

    means the universal principle of cause and effect, action and reaction, that governs all life,

    KARMIC also believes in the deed/act of exchange and sharing of knowledge to have theeffect of enlightenment of the budding medical minds.

    We, here at the Indian Medical Students Association are working towards a common

    goal , the pursuit of knowledge and the application of knowledge in practical fields. It is in this

    pursuit of knowledge that we organized KARMIC 2012. A conference par excellence, a truly

    unique experience which aimed to bridge the gap between the recent advancements in

    medical science and the routine curriculum of medical education.

    Highlights of KARMIC 2012:

    Keynote Lectures: By the eminent faculties from around the globe.

    Workshops: Last year there were workshops on Molecular Biology, Emergency Medicine

    and Biostatistics.

    Hyderabad Annual Medical Students Assembly

    IMSA organized HAMSA 2012, our first International Research, Academic, Literary and Cultural Fest.

    It was a 3-day event at Hyderabad organized at the Gandhi Medical College and The Park Hotel.
