Objectives
To study the Indian Journal of Physics in terms of quality of Physics Information sources through:
Publishing trend Authorship patternAnalysis of citationsAffiliated institutes of citing authorsCountries of collaborating authors and the
collaborationSubject analysisAnalysis of the pattern of citing journals
Methodology
Research articles published during the period 2004-2013 and cited subsequently (up to March, 2014) were considered. This 10 year period is arbitrary. The idea behind that a scientific paper got maximum citation within 5 years.
Citation information collected from online citation database of Scopus of Elsevier and Web of Science of ISI Web of Knowledge.
Primary data recorded, tabulated and analysed as per citation year, cited journals, affiliation of the authors and subject area of citation.

Correlation Between Article Published and Its CitationCoefficient of Correlation (r) = +0.7306
Based on Karl Pearson’s Formula, Coefficient of Correlation (r) = n∑dxdy– (∑dx)(∑dy)
—————————————√n∑dx
2- (∑dx)2 x √n∑dy2 - (∑dy)2
Where,x= Article Publishedy= Articles Cited
It clearly shows that correlation between article published and Its citation is positive

Findings and Discussion:Degree of Collaboration
C= Nm/( Nm+ Ns )where,
C= Degree of CollaborationNm= Number of multi authored contributions
Ns= Number of single authored contributions
In the present study the value of C is: 1512/224+1512=0.87.
This brings out clearly the prevalence of team research in Physics field.

ConclusionThis paper attempts to judge the publication’s
quality rather than the individual articles. In Indian context it is one of the best physics
journal but still lagging behind other leading Physics journals published from USA/European country.
Over the last five years Impact factor is steadily increasing which is a positive aspect of the journal.
After a co-publishing agreement with a reputed commercial publisher (Springer) in 2009, it is now easily accessible both in online and offline which will increase citation in the coming years.

Impact FactorImpact Factor (IF) of a journal in the
year 2013:
IF(2013) = C / (S(1) + S(2)) = 665 / 204+170 = 1.778665 = (317+348)C: number of citations in the year 2013 which were published in the years 2011 and 2012S(1), S(2): number of articles in the journal published in the years 2011and 2012
