Vision of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)

Dear friends,

am happy that CII Godrej GBC which was formed in 2001

is leading various green initiatives across the country. CII

Godrej GBC has demonstrated leadership in the areas of

energy efficiency, green buildings, green companies,

renewable energy, waste management and climate change

activities. I would like to thank all the stakeholders involved

in this wonderful journey.

I am extremely glad that IGBC has sensitised stakeholders

across the country, reached green footprint of over

0.414 billion sqm and positioned India in the international

map of green buildings. Green buildings offer several

opportunities to reduce CO intensity and enhance resource 2

efficiency in the country.

I am particularly impressed at the way the cost of green

buildings have come down significantly, since the

construction of the first green building in 2003. This has

largely been due to awareness, involvement of various

stakeholders, availability of green building products &

technologies and capacity building.

I am sure, CII Godrej GBC is well positioned to contribute to

the country in a big way.

I wish stakeholders of IGBC all success!

Message from Chairman, World Green Building Council

The approach and processes adopted by IGBC is indeed exemplary and augurs well in taking forward the global green building movement.

ADear friends,

t the COP21 in Paris, Green Building Councils from around the world have unveiled their national commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure that the buildings and construction industry plays its part in limiting global warming to 2 degrees. This indeed is a major milestone in our mission of greening Planet Earth.

Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has a key role to play in limiting global warming to 2 degrees. Today, IGBC has carved a niche of its own in re-defining the way buildings are conceived & designed in India.

IGBC is one of the early founding members of WorldGBC and has been in the forefront in offering its expertise/ success stories on green buildings. The approach and processes adopted by IGBC is indeed exemplary and augurs well in taking forward the global green building movement.

We have witnessed how IGBC has set new benchmarks in sustainable construction and in the process consolidated itself as one of the global leaders in green buildings and sustainable built environment.

IndiaGBC is playing a key role in the Board and several technical committees of WorldGBC. This would be a wonderful opportunity for India to be in the international limelight and also contribute significantly to the global green building movement.

IndiaGBC should play a more important role in facilitating the spread of green building movement across the globe. It should also build vibrant synergies with various international stakeholders in building a greener and vibrant India.

I wish IGBC all the very success in all its green pursuits & endeavours.

Regards

Tai Lee SiangChair, World Green Building Council

Dear friends,

t gives me immense satisfaction to see how IGBC has put

India in the global green buildings map. The journey which

we have embarked in early 2000's has enabled Indian

construction industry to re-define its approach towards

built-environment and quality of life.

Green buildings not only makes good business sense but

also goes a long way in enhancing the quality of life and

wellbeing of the occupants.

Indian industry has already demonstrated its thought

leadership in offering innovative and futuristic technologies

and process, which are ecologically superior and

economically viable. IGBC estimates the market potential to

be about USD 300 Billion by 2025. As we march ahead, the

potential would be significant.

In days to come, India will work on the availability and

affordability of world class green building products and

technologies, which will further make green buildings

proposition more competitive.

IGBC is well positioned to further accelerate the global

green building movement and would offer all its expertise

and guidance to the stakeholders.

Independence

in 2022

W

Dear Friends,

Greetings!

e are starting another year of hard work with renewed vigour, greater

determination and firmer resolve to lead our country to the global

leadership in Green Buildings and Green Infrastructure. Indian

construction industry is poised for a great leap towards fulfilment of

Government of India’s commitment of “Housing for All”, “Swach Bharat

Abhiyan”, “100 (Green) Smart Cities” and “300 Green Villages under

RURBAN initiative”. Responding to our Nation’s priorities, IGBC has

already started registering projects under “IGBC Green Affordable

Housing”, large number of privately and government-aided schools

under “IGBC Green School” and a handful of mega green-field smart city

projects under “IGBC Green City” ratings.

We have completed all work and are launching at GBC 2016, four more

new IGBC Green ratings, namely: “IGBC Green Railway Stations”, IGBC

Green Villages”, “IGBC Green Healthcare Facilities” and “IGBC Green

Data Centres”. These will help us transform IGBC into an all-inclusive

Green Building Movement.

IGBC will now have 18 Green Ratings, one for each type of Building and

Infrastructure project, across the length and breadth of the country. All

IGBC ratings are strictly in compliance with various Indian Codes &

Standards, like the NBC, ECBC, MoEF Guidelines, ISHRAE & IPA

recommendations and all others. Thus all IGBC ratings are regional by

choice but global by standard.

World Green Building Council has been extremely supportive of IGBC.

IGBC had the honour of Mr Raghupathy getting nominated as Director

on the Board of WGBC. IGBC is extending a very warm welcome to

WGBC Chairman AR Tai Lee Siang for gracing our GBC 2016 from

5-8 October 2016. His friendship and patronage of IGBC is a source of

great encouragement for all of us. At the recent COP21, WGBC

nominated IGBC to showcase its great achievements and aspirations.

We are also hosting Asia Pacific Networks (APN) Awards 2016,

concurrent with GBC 2016; we will welcome senior members of the

neighbouring Asia Pacific Green Councils. Ms Dominika Czerwinska,

Director WGBC, has agreed to chair panel discussion on Health &

Wellbeing with our eminent Visiting Dignitaries on the panel.

We now have 21 local chapters of IGBC all over India, including the

latest first Chapter in India’s North-East region, in Assam. Entire

spadework has been completed for 4 additional chapters in the

immediate future. We are fortunate to have a dynamic Executive

Board; Board members during February 2016 meeting in Jaipur, have

given us fresh inputs on how to make the next quantum jump for IGBC

to be all-inclusive.

My sincere gratitude to the Chair / Co-chair of our local chapters and to

our Executive Board Members for their dedication, self-less

contribution and dynamic leadership, in our rediscovering IGBC mission

and objective and pursue these with ever-refreshing zeal and vigour.

You will be proud to know that in the year gone-by, our leaders have

reached More Than a Million Children through our IGBC Green School

Rating, through Green Your School Competition, and through giving

lectures in school premises. We are thus able to sensitize our future

leaders towards the urgent need to adopt The Path of Green, and

safeguard their future and that of generations not yet born.

Our current green building registration of more than 3,800 project Pan

India, with 4.45 Billion Sq.Ft of registered green footprint, is living

testimony to our absolute commitment. We are buoyed by the recent

incentives for IGBC certified green buildings, by The Prime Minister’s

Office, MoEF priority hearing for EIA clearance of pre-certified projects;

by UP State and by the Cities of Kolkata, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Pune.

We are more than ever determined to fulfil our aspiration of 10 Billion

Sqft of registered green building footprint, by India@75, when India

celebrates 75 years of Independence in 2022.

May I beseech your continued patronage and your guidance, in keeping

us steadfast to bring glory to our country, in once again becoming the

global leader in green buildings and green infrastructure, and preserve

all life-forms on our beautiful Mother Earth.

CII - Indian Green Building Council

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of Confederation on Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year

2001. The vision of the council is 'To enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be

one of the global leaders in sustainable built environment by 2025'.

The council offers a wide array of services which include developing new green building rating programmes,

certification services and green building training programmes. The council also organises Green Building

Congress, its annual flagship event on green buildings.

The council is committee-based, member-driven and consensus-focused. All the stakeholders of construction

industry comprising of architects, developers, product manufacturers, corporate, government, academia and

nodal agencies participate in the council activities through local chapters.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the

development of India, partnering industry, Government, and civil society, through advisory and consultative

processes.

CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organization, playing a proactive

role in India's development process. Founded in 1895, India's premier business association has over 7,900

members, from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs, and an indirect membership of

over 2,00,000 enterprises from around 240 national and regional sectoral industry bodies.

With 66 offices, including 9 Centres of Excellence, in India, and 8 overseas offices in Australia, Bahrain, China,

Egypt, France, Singapore, UK, and USA, as well as institutional partnerships with 312 counterpart

organizations in 106 countries, CII serves as a reference point for Indian industry and the international

business community.
