Activities - October 2012 Mahatma Gandhi Oration by Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy

The Annual Mahatma Gandhi Oration organized by the Sri Lanka India Society was delivered by

Deshmanya Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy, former Under-Secretary-General of the United

Nations and Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict (April 2006- July 2012),

renowned academic, lawyer, Human Rights advocate, former UN Special Reporteur on

Violence against Women, former Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission and

author, at the refurbished Indian Cultural Centre on Tuesday, 30 October 2012. H.E. Ashok K.

Kantha, High Commissioner of India graced the event as Chief Guest. The Oration was

attended by Hon’ble Members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Members of the

Sri Lanka India Society, friends from the media, members of the civil society and school

children.
