Day 1 Sunday 5th November

The group was in flight from London.

Day 2 Monday 6th November

Delhi

The group met with Rachit and Pradeep at around 10am at Indira Gandhi International Airport and went to the

Hotel Holiday Inn. It was very foggy weather this morning because of all the dust in the environment. On way to

the hotel we saw Black Kite, Bank and Common Mynas, and House Crow. We checked in to the hotel and then

went to Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary. We saw large numbers of of birds there, like Knob-billed Duck, Gadwall,

Eurasian Wigeon, Indian Spot-billed duck, Northern Pintail, Painted Stork, Asian Openbill, Woolly-necked

Stork, Crested Serpent Eagle, Shikra, Marsh Harrier, Black Kite, Pied Myna (also called Asian Pied Starling),

Black Drongo, and other common birds. We came back and, after discussing the programme for tomorrow

morning, had dinner and retired to bed.

Day 3 Tuesday 7th November

Delhi to Agra- Chambal

It was an early start this morning Drive to Agra (the City of the Taj) to see Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Baby Taj, and

then on to Chambal, On the way to Agra, we saw Black-winged Kite, Black Kite, Rock Dove (Common Pigeon),

Black-winged Stilt, and a very elusive pair of Sarus Cranes in a roadside field; we all were happy and amazed to

see the cranes. We reached the Itimad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj) and met our guide. After seeing the Baby Taj, we

went to see Red Fort and then had lunch. Next, we went to see the Taj Mahal, then went behind the Taj to the

banks of Yamuna River where we saw Gull-billed Tern, Ruff, Great Cormorants, Egyptian Vulture, Redshank,

Black-winged Stilt, Ruddy Shelduck and Black Kite. After seeing all this, we went to Chambal, reaching there by

evening and checking in to our hotel.

Later we came back together and did the checklist, then had dinner and went to bed.

Day 4 Wednesday 8th November

Chambal

Today it was a very fresh start. We had an early breakfast and then left for the Chambal River and did some

birding on way as well, seeing weavers, Blyth’s Reed Warbler, Hume’s Leaf Warbler, Common Babbler, Large

Grey Babbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Yellow-eyed Babbler, Pied Bush Chat and Brown Rock Chat. When we

reached the Chambal River, we got into our boats. We saw Black-bellied and River Tern, Gharial, Marsh

(Mugger) Crocodiles, Kentish Plover, Little Ringed and Common Ringed Plover, Red Turtle Dove, Ruddy

Shelduck, Temminck’s Stint, Red-headed Bunting, Baya Weaver, Grey Heron, Egyptian Vulture, Redshank,

Greenshank, Lesser Whistling Duck, Black-winged Stilt, Citrine and White Wagtail, Red-naped Ibis and Blue

Rock Thrush and very elusive Jungle Cat.

On the afternoon nature walk we saw Hoopoe, Hornbill, Coppersmith Barbet, Common Tailorbird, Little Swift,

Grey Francolin, Spotted Owlet and other common birds.

Later we had dinner and did the checklist before lights out.

Day 5 Thursday 9th November

Chambal to Bharatpur

It was another fresh morning. We had an early breakfast and, afterwards, we had a nature walk and saw Hornbill,

Coppersmith Barbet, Barred Buttonquail, Baya Weaver, Red-headed Bunting, Hoopoe, Orange-headed Thrush,

Bronze-winged Jacana and other birds. After an early lunch we started on the way to Bharatpur. We stopped to

visit the Mughal capital, Fatehpur Sikri, and saw Egyptian Vulture, Brown Rock Chat and Rose-ringed Parakeets.

After about two to three hours in that monument we drove to Bharatpur, reaching there by evening.

Later, as usual in the evening, we did the checklist, had dinner and then went off to bed.

Day 6 Friday 10th November

Bharatpur

It was a very fine morning although a little bit cold. We had breakfast at 7am and left from the hotel at 7.30 in

Bicycle Rickshaws for the Keoladeo Ghana National Park. We had our morning birding session, lasting three to

four hours, and for lunch we came back to hotel. After lunch we went again to the park, and saw Black-necked

Stork, all the cormorants, Green Bee-eater, Greater Spotted Eagle, Eurasian Hobby and other birds which are in

the checklist.

Later we came back and updated the checklist over drinks, and then had dinner before going to bed.

Day 7 Saturday 11th November

Bharatpur

It was a very fine morning again although a little bit cold. We had breakfast at 7am and left from the hotel at 7.30

in our same Bicycle Rickshaws for the park. We had a full day in the park. Amongst other birds, we saw Painted

Storks, which come early in the monsoon and breed here. We also saw Little, Great and Indian Cormorants,

Western Marsh Harrier, Indian Spotted Eagle, Eurasian Hobby and Grey Francolin. A Great Bittern was a

highlight of the day: we were told that this bird was the first sighted here in the Keoladeo National Park for 16-

17 years. We also saw other good birds.

Later we came back and did the checklist over drinks, and then had dinner before going to bed.

Day 8 Sunday 12th November

Bharatpur to Ranthambore

It was a very fine morning again. We had breakfast at 7am, and at 7.30 we went to a nearby open field to see

some more birds. We saw Indian Courser, Desert Wheatear, Southern Grey Shrike, and other birds which are in

the checklist. We came back to hotel and after lunch we left for the Railway Station to catch our train to

Ranthambore. We reached Ranthambore by evening and, after settling in to the resort, we did the checklist over

drinks, and then had dinner before going to bed.

Day 9 Monday 13th November

Ranthambore

It was a very lovely morning with cold weather. We went for the morning safari drive in different zones, and saw

many birds and animals, including Tiger, Indian Gazelle, Sambar deer and Blue Bull. We also saw Little Grebe,

Little Cormorant, Great Egret, Indian Pond Heron, Lesser Whistling Duck, Black-winged Kite and other birds.

We came back and had lunch and then later went for an afternoon safari in different zones. We drove around

listening for the alarm calls and waited, and later we were lucky to see two sub-adult Tiger cubs. We came back

and had drinks, then did the checklist and had dinner before putting the lights out.

Day 10 Tuesday 14th November

Ranthambore

We went again for another morning drive, this time in different zones. We saw Small Minivet, Short-toed Snake

Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Black Stork, Woolly-necked Stork, Shikra and had a good sighting of a Sloth Bear

and Leopard. We came back and had lunch.

We went for the afternoon drive and we saw Red-headed Bunting and Small Minivet, Shikra, Indian Vulture

(also known as Long-billed) and another but distant view of Sloth Bear. Later we came back and, as usual, met

for the checklist and drinks before dinner and then lights off.

Day 11 Wednesday 15th November

Ranthambore

It was another fresh morning as we went to the park. There were loads of alarm calls, and we saw Crested

Bunting, Short-toed Eagle, Indian Vulture and Tawny Pipit. We heard alarm calls, and saw Tiger. We came back

and then had lunch.

Later we started our afternoon drive and went back to the park. Birds included Greater Painted-snipe, Black-

headed Ibis, River Tern, Great Stone-curlew (also called Great Thick-knee) and Oriental Darter. We also saw

Mugger (Marsh Crocodiles). We were hoping to see a Tiger this afternoon but, unfortunately, she didn't come

out; we heard later that she had made a kill at the hill and stopped there only.

We came back and then did the checklist over drinks, before having dinner and going to bed.

Main Tour Day 12/ Extension Day 1 Thursday 16th November

Ranthambore - Delhi

It was another fresh morning as we went to the park for our last morning drive. We had an amazing morning,

seeing two sub-adult male Tigers, and then a family of four Tigers - so altogether we had great sighting of six

Tigers. We were all very happy! We also saw great birds as well, plus Marsh (Mugger) Crocodiles.

We came back to resort and packed our bags, and checked out from resort, going to the station to catch our train

to Delhi. We had packed-lunch boxes from the resort, so we had our lunch on the train, celebrating

Pamela’s birthday with a surprise cake, which we all enjoyed. We reached Delhi by evening and then went to the

hotel.

Everyone was briefed about the next day’s schedule. We had to say some farewells, as four of the group were

returning home, while six were continuing on for the Corbett National Park extension.

Main Tour Day 13/ Extension Day 2 Friday 17th November

Delhi - UK or Delhi - Corbett

Four group members returned to the UK today, after enjoying their 13-day Naturetrek adventure.

The rest of us left the hotel at 4.30am along with packed-breakfast boxes, to catch our train to Kathgodam from

New Delhi railway station at 6am. It was a very nice train journey. We reached Kathgodam by 11.55am, and then

we drove to Corbett, reaching our resort by lunch time. After lunch, we went for a Nature trail; we saw, fresh

Tiger pugmarks and heard alarm calls too, but only from a far distance. We also saw butterflies, Blue Bull,

parakeets, Stone-curlew, and other birds.

We came back and then did the checklist over drinks, before having dinner and going to bed.

Extension Day 3 Saturday 18th November

Corbett

It was a very lovely morning with cold weather. We went for the morning safari drive in Dhela zone, and saw

many birds and animals, including Tarai Grey Langur, Sambar deer, Blue Bull and Spotted Deer. We also saw

Himalayan Bulbul, Great Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Lineated Barbet, Brown-headed Barbet, and other

birds.

We came back and had lunch and then later went for an afternoon safari in Dhela Zone. We drove around

listening for the alarm calls and waited, saw birds and mammals.

We came back and had drinks, then did the checklist and had dinner before putting the lights out.

Extension Day 4 Sunday 19th November

Corbett

It was a very lovely morning with cold weather. We went for the morning safari drive in Dhela zone, and saw

many birds and animals, including, Pied Harrier, Changeable Hawk-Eagle, Himalayan Bulbul, Great Hornbill,

Oriental Pied Hornbill, and other birds. We also saw Tiger, Tarai Grey Langur, Sambar and Spotted Deer. The

highlight of the day was to see rare (in India) and elusive Yellow-throated Marten.

We came back and had lunch and then later went for an afternoon safari in Dhela Zone. We drove around

listening for the alarm calls, but nothing came out. However, we again saw a good range of other mammals and

birds.

We came back and had drinks, then did the checklist and had dinner before putting the lights out.

Extension Day 5 Monday 20th November

Corbett

It was a very lovely morning with cold weather. We went for the morning safari drive in Bijrani zone, and saw

many birds and animals, including Sirkeer Malkoha, Lineated Barbet, Brown-headed Barbet, Changeable Hawk-

Eagle, Himalayan Bulbul, and other birds. We heard alarm calls and waited, but nothing came out. We also saw

Tarai Grey Langur, Sambar and Spotted Deer and Wild Boar.

We came back and had lunch and then later went for an afternoon safari in Bijrani Zone. We drove around

listening for the alarm calls and we saw a sub-adult Tiger, as well as the other birds and mammals.

We came back and had drinks, then did the checklist and had dinner before putting the lights out.

Extension Day 6 Tuesday 21st November

Corbett-Delhi

It was a very lovely morning with cold weather. We went for the morning safari drive in Dhela zone, and saw

many birds and animals, including, Tiger, Asiatic Elephant, Red-headed Vulture (also known as King Vulture),

Lineated Barbet, Brown-headed Barbet, Changeable Hawk-Eagle, Himalayan Bulbul, and other birds.

We came back to resort, packed our bags and checked out, along with packed-lunch boxes, and drove to catch

our train to Delhi from Kathgodam. We boarded our train at 3.45pm, and reached Delhi by late evening (at

9.35pm), having had dinner on the train. We then drove to the Hotel Holiday Inn, where the group checked in

and I said goodbye to them after letting them know about the plans for the next day.

Extension Day 7 Wednesday 22nd November

Delhi

The group left Delhi for their onward journeys, after an excellent trip.

Arrival back in the UK

Conclusion

It was a very fine group with lovely people, very easy going, and all were very happy to see the Tiger in

Ranthambore and Corbett, We saw loads of birds and mammals, as in the tour we recorded 252 species of birds,

25 species of mammals plus reptiles, amphibians and insects, as per the checklist.
