Introduction
This work was a bit difficult of elaborating, therefore we didn’t know what to do. But we got there and now we are showing you our
final work. Our work speaks about Greece, a country that we both like. Let us hope that
you like it too!
Where it is situated
Greece officially the Hellenic, is a country in southeastern
Europe, situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula. It is bordered by
Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia and Albania to the north and by Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea
lies to the east and south of mainland Greece, while the Ionian Sea lies to the west.
History and today
Its mountains, with the sky almost always blue and, with its soft climate made of Greece one of the most wonderful and better countries of the world. It was in that small
country that the occidental civilization started more than two thousand and eight hundred years ago. At that time
the Greek civilization was divided in city-state that dominated great areas of the edges of the Mediterranean and the Black sea. Currently, Greece is the less developed country of Europe. Atenas is the capital and bigger city of the country, with four million inhabitants. In Atenas and
other parts of Greece, there are splendid monuments and ruins of the glorious past of the old civilization. It has
thousand of years, the Greeks had established traditions of justice and individual freedom that are the basis of the
democracy and the economy market.
The territory
About 80% of Greece is mountainous or, at least, caused an accident territory. Most of the country is dry and rocky. Only 28% of the land
is arable. Occidental Greece contains lakes and humid zones. The Pindo, the central
mountainous chain, has an average rise of 2 650 m. The old Olimpo Mount (Macedonian) is the highest point of Greece, reaching 2 917 m
above sea level.
The climate
The Greek climate is similar to the Portuguese one, with soft and humid winters and hot and dry summers. The temperatures rarely reach
extreme values, even so occur snow fall in mountains and even though in Atenas, in some
winters.
The most visited monuments
Parthenon is the most visited place of Greece. The Parthenon was a temple of the Greek goddess Atena , constructed in the century V B.C. in acropole of Atenas. It
is known as one of most anceient remaining buildings of Greece and was
made with the best of the Greek architecture . Its decorative sculptures are considered one of the highest points of the
Greek art . The Parthenon is a lasting symbol of Greece and the democracy, and
is seen as one of biggest cultural monuments of the world.
The Olympic Games The first Games happened in Old
Greece, at about 2700 years Bf.C, as an important
celebration and tribute to gods; but with the emergency of the
Christianism in the Roman Empire and it ideologies, the hidden cults and everything
inherent to it, had started to be exterminated and between 393
and 394 emperor Teodósio I finishes with the games that had
a Greek origin. Initially, the Games were disputed only by
amateur athletes.
Conclusion
We enjoyed doing this work very much because we have learnt many things about one of the countries that we like the most. It's a good country to visit!
