COMPANY MESSAGE

I am Italian in the deepest sense but allow me to consider myself an American. In this country I got my Aerospace Engineering degree and my pilot license; I drove thou-sands of miles, from the Mississippi spring in Minnesota to the great delta in Louisiana, from New York to Seattle and then down to San Diego; I visited amazing places and not just the incredible national parks (Yosemite is my favorite) and cities (Chicago and New Orleans are on the top), but also small off-the–main-path places and at-tractions (the Corn Palace in Iowa and the buffalo river in Arkansas are the most recent ones). I am missing only six states and a handful of main cities.

I was overwhelmed by the great space in Montana, amazed by the power of the big rivers, swept away by the beauty of the Keys and simply overcome by the nature and the ever-present wildlife.

Most and foremost, the democracy and the freedom of this country got to my heart.

On a personal note, my two grandfathers, one loyal to the king and one socialist, culturally so far apart that they would almost not talk to each other, told me exactly the same thing, although in different ways: we owe it to the Americans if we have a democracy (or, from my less politically correct grandfather, we owe it to the Ameri-cans if we are not marching with a goose step and talking German).

These two men were very different and fought on differ-ent sides but they agreed that we were forever in debt with the Americans, because they came, they fought and they died so that we could be free.

Me s s a ge f rom ou r Pre sidentPietro Fiocchi - President of Fiocchi of America

Since the time in which Pino (father of Carlo, our Sales and Marketing VP) started ALCAN in the 60’s, every-body in the family had very clear in their mind that we had to be in the US, because of the values and the oppor-tunities created by such an incredible system.

We understood that if you worked hard and you cared about customers (bless you all, but you are a difficult bunch), by providing a high quality product and a per-fect service, you could be extremely successful.

At the end, we worked hard and we have been successful. We plan to invest more and have more jobs at our facili-ty in Ozark, Missouri. We believe in this country and we will do anything possible to support it.

My pray is that, although you occasionally get things wrong, please keep doing what you have been doing in the past 200 years. You are the search light to which mil-lions of people look at for guidance.

Darkness covered the northern Colorado plains like a shroud. Hunters and volun-teers, some having arrived as early as four in the morning, navigate gentle hills and flat terrain in pickups identifiable only by their headlamp’s piercing light. Exhaled breath appeared like smoke at a campfire. A chilly wind slashed across the plains like an angered predator, penetrating clothing as if it were an iced dagger. The fragrance of damp earth and vegetation, more luscious than the finest perfume, filled my nostrils. As daylight nudged up, the snow-capped Rocky Moun-tains to the west gained definition as did the traffic on Interstate 25 to the east, presenting a surreal hunting landscape of horizon-tick-ling grass and brush bounded by roaring technology.

Outdoor Buddies I was volunteering at an antelope hunt sponsored by Outdoor Buddies on a private ranch just south of the Wyoming border. The landowners had, for many years, donated its access for antelope hunting. Outdoor Buddies is a volunteer organization created in 1984 as a partnership between Craig Hospital, the world-renowned spinal cord and brain injury facility, and the then Colorado Divi-sion of Wildlife. It offers disabled people the opportunity to be active in the outdoors. I have been on their pheasant hunts and some fishing events. Dwaine Robey, the executive director, emphasized: “The point of rehabil-itation is to DO something. We offer that to disabled people and we need people to help

The American greatness of character He inherited, he said, his father’s love for the United States. “America is a mixture, “a cocktail,” he told me, forged on the notions of the family, team spirit and the unique beliefs that there are principles greater than the individual person.

us do those ‘somethings’ with them.” By 8:00 this Saturday morning, several dis-abled hunters had been strapped into highly sophisticated battery-powered machines that are self-propelled chairs on steroids, with tank-like treads, a wheel on each of two bars that extend in the front and two in the rear to stabilize the machine that enables it to navigate up and down hills as steep as forty-five degrees without tipping over frontward or backward. The seat can ele-vate the shooter to a full standing position. An adjustable gun mount can be affixed on either side of the handlebar. I signed in with Diane Dudley and Penny Sanford, wife of Larry Sanford, president of the organization, and was given flag to place on the window of my car.

Compassion, Community and CharacterCompassion unaccompanied by virtuous action is mere self-indulgence and morally worthless. Outdoor Buddies enables disabled people and their volunteers to take action. Crafted on the triple anvils of compassion, community and character, Dwaine Robey’s path to involvement with Outdoor Bud-dies offers a case study of the character and compassion possessed by the volunteers and gives luminous insight into the character of participating disabled hunters. Don Young, a high school friend and hunting buddy of Dwaine’s, was severely injured in a Kansas oil field accident. After learning of Outdoor Buddies from an article in Colorado Magazine, Dwaine contacted Don to get him

THE AMERICAN GREATNESS OF CHARACTER

this property. A handsome young man with the face of a Raphael angel, he is afflicted by an extremely rare congenital birth defect, causing deformed arms and hands and no legs. I met him several times. I have never seen him without a smile or heard him utter a word of self-lament. His character tickles heaven. He has been successful on each of his four hunts, the first time getting an antelope using the same CZ 6.5 Swedish rifle I suc-cessfully used this day. On this hunt he shot his dad’s .270 Weatherby Magnum, custom-ized in many ways, including an inlay in the stock of a Blackhawk helicopter, the helicop-ter his dad flies for the Air Force. “When I am out there hunting,” Stetson told me, “I can compete with anyone else. I am equal.” Actually, Stetson is a little more than equal. His love and dedication to shooting pro-pelled him to qualify for the USA Paralym-pics in 10-meter air rifle category. He will compete in Thailand this November. Another hunter that makes the eyes a little watery is Connor Dowsett, a Navy diver injured in a diving accident that rendered quadriplegic. He shoots a rifle fitted with a ‘sip and puff’ trigger system, fitted to shoot through a removable section of the front windshield of his highly customized Jeep. It is fatefully fitting that on this hunt Connor shot the largest buck antelope. I marvel at the attention and perseverance of Stetson’s and Connor’s dads, for there can be no great-er illustration of a parent’s love for a child. Larry Sanford explained that at some of the events, one or more hunters are fully or legally blind. “No problem,” Larry enthus-es. He has created an iPhone-type camera system which affixes to the scope on the hunter’s rifle. Larry sees through the scope and signals the hunter where to move the rifle by touching the shooter’s back shoulder in different locations. “Move it just a fuzz to the left,” Larry told one shooter. “What’s a fuzz?” the hunter inquired. “A little bit,”

Larry clarified.C. J. Ellis shared an experience guiding a blind hunter: “I expected to hunt about hour,” he said, “but it took all day, and it was awesome!” He added, “The handicapped people want to experience a hunt. If needed, it will take all day. This is their moment!”Darrell Bowen has been hunting here the last five years. He expressed his gratitude for as-sistance from Outdoor Buddies. “This gives me the opportunity to get back in the field, now that I am a bit disabled.” He actively reaches out to disabled folks to inform them of this organization and get them involved. “I like to share; give back. I look forward to this hunt, and other sponsored hunts.”

Adversity does not build character, it is said, as much as it reveals it. That’s wrong. Adversity does both. The disabled shooters become stronger, as do those that help them. Common threads link these hunters: grit, tenacity, a triumph of will over pain and physical adversity. They taunt the fates: “I will do this!” They refuse to be what Teddy Roosevelt described as “those cold and timid souls that taste neither victory nor defeat.” Character is enriched.

The Volunteers

“America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” -Alexis de Tocqueville

Pepper Canterbury, an agent with the Colo-rado Parks and Wildlife, explained the mul-tiple benefits of this hunt. “It has the virtu-ous consequence of controlling the antelope population and it gives deserving people the opportunity to hunt. More,” Pepper added, “you see a lot of smiling and laughing, which some describe as laughing through the pain.”Karl Watkins, manager of the ranch; points out that the hunt is great for these hunters because so much of the property is accessible

involved in hunting. Dwaine reached out to Sam Andres, head of therapeutic recreation at Craig Hospital, to get the hospital to par-ticipate in Don’s rehabilitation. Living a short drive from Craig, Dwaine converted the lower floor of his home to a hospital room to accommodate his friend. Dwaine routinely took Don for treatment at the hospital and fixed him up with a ‘sip and puff’ device to fire a rifle that could be acti-vated by exerting a breath. Don reached the point where Dwaine determined he was able to hunt. Their first hunt was for elk in Estes Park, Colorado. Don had trained to shoot and to efficiently exit his modified vehicle. The local Holiday Inn allowed its room to be fitted to accommodate Don’s hospital bed and other accessories. The hunt was unsuccessful but, persisting, the next year Don got a cow elk. His suc-cess was a community effort. Sadly, Don succumbed to infection the following year. Dwaine told me Don never lost his sense of humor, expressed laughter by clicking his tongue and always had a smile. Don is illustrative of the character of these severely disabled hunters, and that character inspired Dwaine, among others, to be grateful for one’s own blessings and to commit to the most noble behavior: selflessly doing good for others. Dwaine became director of Out-door Buddies in 2004.

My First Hunt in North America

This was my fourth year volunteering at this hunt but the first year I had drawn a license, a doe tag, making this my first hunt in North America. Saturday afternoon a guide, aptly named Craig Hunter, was available to take me and my friend, Rob Anderson, to hunt. CZ-USA had provided me with two rifles, their newly re-designed 557 Varmint in .308 and a 557 Sporter in 6.5 x 55 Swedish. As they always have, Fiocchi USA donated ammunition. Leupold generously donated

two scopes, a 3 x 9 power which I affixed to the 6.5 Swedish and a VX-2 4x12 which I mounted on the .308. After half an hour or so of driving, we found a trio of antelope half a mile away. Craig ma-neuvered his vehicle so that we were within about three hundred yards, but perpendic-ular to the aggressive wind. I urged driving west and then turn north to try to get closer. Rob cautioned we might spook the animals. “Spooking!” I blurted. “With that crosswind they might as well be on the Long Island Expressway! I’m not taking that shot! What do we have to lose?”

We drove and until Craig stopped the truck about one hundred twenty yards from the animals. A large doe stood. The wind was directly behind me. I chose the 6.5 Swedish, which produced one-inch groups at one hundred yards. I exited and placed the rifle, bipod attached, on the truck’s hood. To pull or not to pull the trigger? That is the ques-tion. All the hours at the range are invested for this one moment—firing the most ethical shot possible. I fired. The antelope took a dozen steps and it was over. Then the careful dressing and tagging and returning to camp.

Studies in Character: The Disabled Hunters and the Volunteers

Sharing the words of the hunters and the volunteers is, I believe, the most impacting way for me to communicate the character and honor of the participants. The range of disabilities varied among the hunters. Some were able to walk or move their upper bodies but with difficulty. Others’ disabilities were more severe.

Some of the Hunters I reunited with Stetson Bardfield, one of the most extraordinary human beings I’ve had the honor to meet. I met him in 2014 on his first Outdoor Buddies antelope hunt, also on

4

by car and antelope are over almost every ridge. The opportunity to acquire an ani-mal is high. Karl added, “Watching these people makes me appreciate more what I have and take care of myself better.”

My friend, Rob Anderson, learned of Out-door Buddies when he met Larry Sanford at a sporting clays event in 2013. “It had instant appeal for me,” Rob shared. A phys-ical educator in the Cherry Creek School system for over thirty years, he taught adapted physical education and worked with a variety of special needs students. “I had expertise I wanted to share and I love shooting, hunting and fishing. Outdoor Buddies presented opportunities to do things with deserving people.” Barbara McConnell is the owner of Reliable Big Game Processing in Fort Collins. She donates its game processing services to the disabled hunters. What motivated her gen-erosity, I asked? “When you see these hunt-ers come in with their game, and you look in their eyes and see their faces, you know they have had an experience that is fulfill-ing to them. And that’s worth everything. You have to be there and feel their joy.” Hotel rooms at the Comfort Inn in Fort Collins are donated to hunters and volun-teers by proprietors Dariusz and Zosia Czyszczon. (spell that fast ten times!) An avid hunter, Dariusz supports Outdoor Buddies because it helps disabled hunters and expands their passion for the outdoors. “They get physically and mentally tired,” Dariusz said. “They need a break and we are here.” Some hunters must stay more than one day to meaningfully participate and, without Dariusz, could not afford to do participate. “I want to give back,” Dariusz told me. Nick Filler, a manager at Cabela’s, is a fix-ture at all Outdoor Buddy events. Under his direction thousands of dollars of products have been donated to raise money for the organization and to help hunters directly.

The Big Picture

I try to see the big picture in all things. The antelope hunt is merely a strand in this larg-er and grander tapestry. It is an opportunity to transcend the appearance of physical and mental limitations. Carlo Fiocchi shared his vision of the larger picture. Carlo reminded me that Fiocchi was the first non-American ammunition company to invest in the Unit-ed States. He inherited, he said, his father’s love for the United States. “America is a mixture, “a cocktail,” he told me, forged on the notions of the family, team spirit and the unique beliefs that there are principles great-er than the individual person. Stated unam-biguously, Carlo was impressed by the Amer-ican character. Fiocchi USA invested in this market because of the belief that America’s core principles—hard work, honor, humil-ity, individual liberty—will lead to success. Without humility and discipline, success cannot be attained. Fiocchi USA enriches the American character by its generous support for an array of hunting and sport shooting disciplines.

The antelope hunt shows what might be referred to as ordinary people—moms, dads, teens, younger folks also—giving their time, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The Outdoor Buddies hunts are quintessen-tial examples of why I am, without apology, proud to hunt. The many Dwaines and Lar-rys and Dianes are too modest, too humble, too unassuming to acknowledge their good-ness. I will. They act with greatness, for they bring smiles to people who deserve to smile. They give deserving people the opportunity to triumph over fate. This is the narrative of virtuous character, both created and re-vealed, by an antelope hunt.

AMERICAN CRAFTSMEN

Nearly from its inception, the United States of America has been regarded as the wealth-iest nation on the planet. Not only does it have strong democratic processes but its financial stability, abundance of natural resources, and favorable geography featuring friendly alliances on both borders places it in a unique position among world powers. Per-haps though, its greatest resource is that of its people. The U.S. Constitution guarantees a set of democratic ideals and affords many individual freedoms and personal liberties rarely found in other parts of the world. These unique characteristics have served to bolster a sense of national pride known as American Exceptionalism.

During his rise to prominence on the Amer-ican political scene, lawmaker Marco Rubio once said America is, “the only place in the world where it doesn’t matter who your par-ents were or where you came from. You can be anything you are willing to work hard to be….” Although one may argue educational and employment opportunities for poverty class Americans are less than equal to their wealthier counterparts, one cannot dispute one ideal: there is no other country in the world where one’s success in life is more closely tied to an individual’s dogged work ethic. Thus, those who choose to become victims of their circumstances generally do; those who adapt and overcome the obstacles before them mostly succeed.

American Exceptionalism The case for American Exceptionalism is obvious. Individual liberties and freedoms Americans possess such as the freedom of speech, right to vote, and right to keep and bear arms are guaranteed by the Constitution and are unrivaled worldwide.

But, American Exceptionalism has not always been viewed positively. In the 1920s, as America recovered from World War I and the Great Depression, European nations struggled to rebuild their industries. Class tension and a dismal economy gave rise to the concepts of socialism and communism. Many Europeans had difficulty providing for themselves and having the government do so seemed like a pretty good idea to some. Russian revolutionary socialist Karl Marx predicted socialism would rise like a phoenix from the ashes of capitalism and given the industrial might and a strong labor force, America seemed like a logical place. How-ever, Americans had no appetite for joining the Communist Revolution. Upon hearing of American rejection of the ideology, Joseph Stalin responded, “The ‘heresy of American exceptionalism’ must end.” Another Com-munist sympathizer equated the dogma of American Exceptionalism to that of a “chronic disease.”

By the mid-1940s, America differentiated itself from other world economies by its integration of women into the workforce. While men were off at war, women stepped into manufacturing and industrial jobs previously relegated to their male coun-terparts. American Capitalism was in full swing throughout the rest of the 1940s and well into the 1950s. The 1960s and ‘70s how-ever, proved to be difficult and the concept of American Exceptionalism took a back seat to the controversies of America’s role

as a nation builder in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and Civil Rights issues at home. It was not until Ronald Reagan was elected President in 1980 that Americans again began to embrace the concept of being a torchbearer of freedom to the world.

Some have opined American Exceptional-ism is a temporary phenomenon and that it cannot be replicated elsewhere. They believe eventually the U.S. will assimilate with the rest of the world into a “universal world order.” The conventional wisdom however, is that American ‘specialness’ stems from its political, intellectual and religious heritage, and it is enduring. They argue it is a model which should be emulated by the rest of the world.

The case for American Exceptionalism is obvious. Individual liberties and freedoms Americans possess such as the freedom of speech, right to vote, and right to keep and bear arms are guaranteed by the Constitu-tion and are unrivaled worldwide. From the founding colonists who survived unbear-able conditions in search of the freedom of religion to the founding fathers who sought equal representation against an oppressive, overreaching central government, citizen soldiers from every walk of life have dropped their tools and taken up arms to further our collective ideals. Prevailing against often overwhelming armies, they then slung their rifles and returned to the fields and factories. This sense of national pride and work ethic goes beyond American’s abundant natural resources or geographic advantages as a rationale for our superiority and it forms the basis of the foundation of who we are as a nation. Because of this, American Exception-alism is engrained in the fabric of our society and is destined to live in perpetuity.

The concept took hold in his imagination. From there he sketched it onto paper, metic-ulously tailoring an idea into reality. Then to steel, the fine lines and details taking shape beneath calloused, dream-weaving hands. From angle grinder to heat treat, every as-pect is shaped by touch and hard focus. Even the sheath is carefully engraved with custom artwork. This is all courtesy of custom blade-smith Jeremy Valentine of Valavian Knives. Valentine is an American Craftsman, a rare breed we believe is making a comeback.

Technology has a firm grip on production in America, resulting in a decline in custom work and, in turn, a drop in quality. When Fiocchi was founded in 1876 it was at a time when breech-loaders were replacing muz-zle-loaders and such innovation was reward-ed with hard-earned success. In the centu-ry-plus since its founding, Fiocchi has forged countless paths in the ammunition world and they’ve done it with cutting-edge ideas and an unwavering dedication to quality. Today that dedication continues to guide the company, but it’s also seen in the craftsman-ship of inventive-yet-hardworking types like Valentine.

Valentine’s spoken desire to return to the artistic roots of American Craftsmanship rings true: “Nothing on earth compares to creating something from nothing with your own hands. It’s the core of what ‘Ameri-can-made’ means; it’s the fuel that drives us both as a country and as people. I’m proud to continue the American dream and I think about it with every blade I make.”

The Return of the American Craftsman“Nothing on earth compares to creating something from nothing with your own hands. It’s the core of what ‘American-made’ means; it’s the fuel that drives us both as a country and as people. I’m proud to continue the American dream and I think about it with every blade I make.”

Passion. Ingenuity. Dedication. These quali-ties and more make up the foundation of the American Craftsman. Whether craftsmen are revolutionizing the outdoor industry through the design and manufacture of ammunition, firearms, or knives their value cannot be overestimated. And every time Jeremy Valentine hones a blade in his Ore-gon-based shop he takes part in a slow-but-steady nationwide return to our innovative roots. He is an artisan of steel, leather, and stone; he is an American Craftsman, and craftsmen are the true spirit of America.

By Kat Ainsworth

On our quest to find the spirit that has defined America’s greatness over the generations we realized it was most recognizable in the entre-preneurs of America. America has certainly produced many recognizable brands in the world: Coca Cola, Ford, Apple, etc. but the true soul of the American economy are the small business owners, working with their hands, innovating products, and keeping the spirit freedom alive. We found the embodiment of that spirit in one of our dear friends Shane Stenton of Spd Ltd.

We caught up with Shane in his shop in Boul-der City, Nevada, he was standing in front of his Bridgeport mill turning handles in a fury as hot aluminum showered in all directions. “I’m making some fuel injection parts for a race car”, he said in between the noise of cutting. Looking around his shop you could see quite the array of projects, pieces ranging in sizes: from a book of matches to things that can only be moved with a fork lift. “I kind of fill an odd niche” Says Shane, “I do everything from very precisely machined and engineered engine components for race cars, all the way through to large architectural pieces and just about everything in between”.

Shane got his start working for his father’s ma-rine business making parts for boats straight out of high school. “With the big economic changes that happened in the late 2000’s I saw a shift in the market, and a void I thought I could fill” He continued, “I had people coming to me to build things that were completely out of my discipline, I took all of the skills that I had acquired from the marine business and started putting them to use in other areas to fill the time, a lot of the process-es are the same, it’s just a different end product. Now I spend most of my time on commissiones to build custom furniture shapes, doors, and other architectural accessories”.Looking through the rows and rows and drawers and toolboxes full of hand tools and measuring

equipment, you can tell Shane takes pride in his craft. “I’d rather spend up front and have something that works right, when I need it & how I need it” He says, “That’s why I choose Fiocchi rounds when I go shooting”.

Spending some time with Shane it is evident that American ingenuity is alive and well throughout our great nation and the new generation of ameri-cans. Craftsmen who have applied a wide arrange of skills to service their customers and communi-ties alike will always be a trademark of America.

FIOCCHI FEATURED EVENTSFIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOG FIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOG

Looking into 2018, Fiocchi of America contin-ues to lead the industry in giving back to our customers through sponsored events. These sponsorships not only increase opportunities for our end user, they also give more added value for ranges stocking who stock our am-munition. Our support for the shooters, range owners and managers is second to none.

Fiocchi Cups

Due to the overwhelming success of the Fioc-chi Cup West held annually at the Ben Avery Clay Target Center in Phoenix, AZ, we’ve ex-panded the locations. For 2018, the Fiocchi Cup Central will be held at Hunter’s Pointe Shooting Complex in Humboldt, SD, Fioc-chi Cup East will return to the South Florida Shooting Club in Palm City, FL, and we’ll be back in Phoenix. Prizes at these events include ammunition, range bags, hats, and other items worth $10,000. Watch for the dates on our website or Facebook page later this year.

Fiocchi F.I.T.A.S.C. 500

In 2017, we teamed up with Northbrook Sports Club in Hainesville, IL (northwest of Chicago) for the first of it’s kind event. Five (5) sepa-rate 100 target F.I.T.A.S.C. events shot on five different courses with different target setters on each course. The inaugural event boasted over 200 shooters from all over the country. The events were titled as inspired by our Exac-ta line 1 oz. target loads such as the Little Rino, Crusher, and as advertised, Super Crusher. This event was set by Fiocchi’s own Clay Target Range Rep Adam Pinto. The targets were “big” and nasty. Overall, all of the target presenta-tions were enjoyed very much by the shooters. There were daily drawings for ammunition and range bags. As it was a resounded success, it will return for 2018 and is currently slated for October 11 – 14, 2018.

Fiocchi Fun Day

New for 2018, we will be sponsoring events at 50 ranges across the country. These events will be 100-target, one-day fun shoots. The course of fire is up to the range. Sporting clays, 5-stand, F.I.T.A.S.C., super sporting, trap, and / or skeet. They have the flexibility to combine events if they so choose i.e. 50 sporting clays and 50 trap. Shooters under 21 years old and female shooters over 21 will receive four (4) boxes of 12 ga. Shooting Dynamics ammuni-tion while supplies last. Left over ammo from the 100 boxes we are providing per event along with range bags and hats will be given away via a drawing by the range where the rest of the participants have a chance to win. Our goal is to give more shooters the chance to win our products, increase the number of shooters at these ranges, and provide them with once again, more added value for stocking our prod-ucts.

FIOCCHI CUP

The Fiocchi Cup has been held at Ben Avery Clay Target Center for years and continues to grow. With another record year in the books, event promoter Premier Shotgun Sports presented a truly fun, social, and challenging shoot. At the helm, Dan Twitchell guided his staff along with the great folks at Ben Avery CTC to end with another very successful event. As you’ll find out, this shoot is now the Fiocchi Cup West.

Highlighting the Fiocchi Cup West is the Satur-day night dinner. After an excellent meal that was sponsored by Fiocchi’s industry partner White Flyer and Premier Shotgun Sports, all the Junior and Sub-Junior shooters are brought up to the front for recognition and a free box of Fiocchi Little Rino shells and a Fiocchi hat. Once the kids were done, over 30 cases of Little Rino shells were given away thru a free draw-ing. Range bags and hats also went home with the very appreciative participants. Collectively, $5,000 worth of ammo and promotional items found new homes.

Another attribute to the success of this shoot is the number of events. 200 target Main, 100 tar-get F.I.T.A.S.C., 100 target Preliminary, 50 tar-get Thursday 5-Stand, 50 target Friday 5-Stand, 50 target Saturday 5-Stand, 50 target Sunday 5-Stand, 50 target 20 ga., 50 target 28 ga., 50 tar-get .410 bore, 50 target Super Sporting, 50 target Pump Gun, and 50 target Side x Side… that’s 1000 targets available for the shooters. With-out the help of Fiocchi’s other industry partner Promatic Traps, it would have never happened as it was presented.

This event attracts many of the top shooters pri-marily from the Western US including Alaska. But that doesn’t mean that people from all over the country don’t make the trek. Shooters from 24 States, Canada, and from as far away as Afri-ca soaked up the Arizona sun this year.

Fi o c c h i Cup : t h e l e g en d ar y e vent c onti nu e s .

Adam Pinto

The 2017 Fiocchi Cup West Champion was Tyler Encinas. Past winners include the likes of three-time champion Mike Wilgus and last year’s winner Gebbin Miles. Fiocchi Pro Staff Shooter Ray Brown took the Preliminary title with Fiocchi sponsored shooter Chad Roberts finishing second. Roberts was also the Main Event Runner Up.

Candice Fowler cleaned up winning the top Lady spot in the Main, Preliminary, F.I.T.A.S.C. and 28 ga. events… it seems she would have won every event she entered. Fiocchi Pro Staffer Jo-sey Martin finished Runner Up in F.I.T.A.S.C. The top Sub-Junior in the Main Event was Sam Korbs. Korbs is in one of Fiocchi’s starter pro-grams and we can see where he’ll be moving up in the future.

With all this success, the word has spread and so more events have been added. The Fiocchi Cup East is filling up fast. It will be held at the South Florida Shooting Club in Palm City, Flor-ida December 2017. For 2018, there will be the Fiocchi Cup Central at Hunter’s Pointe Shoot-ing Complex in Humboldt, South Dakota in July, then back to Phoenix for the Fiocchi Cup West at Ben Avery CTC in November, and fin-ish again at South Florida Shooting Club with the Fiocchi Cup East December ‘18.

FIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOG FIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOGFIOCCHI FRIENDS DOG CONTEST FIOCCHI FRIENDS DOG CONTEST

Bird dogs are hard working, earnest, loyal, miracles on four legs. Just think about what they do for us on a hunt: searing heat and bitter cold, rough ground, barbed wire, thorns and thickets, wicked scenting conditions, covering three times the mileage we do, retrieving on land and in icy water. They are why I became a hunter, and everyone I ask tells me the reason they go hunting is to watch-admire-revel in their dog’s work. Your admiration goes even deeper, as evidenced by your fantastic images in the “Fiocchi Friends” photo con-test – they are portraits of determination, loyalty, persever-ance … and a little bit of clown. What does all of this have to do with ammunition? When I finally get a shot, I want to make it count because to my dog it’s all about getting to “fetch!” He deserves a reward for his hard work, and a bird in his mouth is the ultimate payback. You know exactly what I mean, don’t you? For my television series Wingshooting USA, I’ve hunted in 23 states, over 200 different dogs of a dozen varied breeds. I’ve shot pheasants, three kinds of quail, three grouse spe-cies, chukars, Hungarian Partridge and woodcock. And if you watch my show, you know I need all the help I can get with my shooting. That’s why I put my trust in Fiocchi am-munition, specifically Golden Pheasant, no matter what I’m shooting at or where. I shoot more confidently knowing the ballistics, consistent pellet shape and overall performance are helping put birds on the ground for my dog. Read the rest of this catalog to learn more about how. But trust me, when the cameras are rolling and the dogs are going the extra mile, Fiocchi am-munition is the best insurance policy for putting birds in the bag. We are both happier at the end of the day: dogs sleeping the sleep of the innocent, legs twitching on a dream hunt, nails clicking against the crate. And me reliving it all with good friends around a crackling fire.

O n a d re am hu nt .I love my hunting dogs. As the saying goes, “The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs.” I’ll bet you feel pretty much the same way.

Scott Linden - Creator/host - Wingshooting USA

No, it’s not all about a full game vest. But as Ortega y Gas-sett said: “One does not hunt in order to kill; on the con-trary, one kills in order to have hunted.” At some point, we need to connect – a good shot, definitely. But the linkages go deeper: to our dog … fellow hunters … the natural world … and ultimately, to our tribe who we help feed with our harvest. I answer thousands of questions every year from my TV fans. Often they ask about ammunition and my answer is unequivocally, boringly, consistent: Fiocchi Golden Pheas-ant. Any gauge, any specie, in any state, whether I’m hunt-ing with my wirehairs or a field-bred cocker, it is my go-to ammunition. That’s how we get to “fetch.”

I have had the priviledge of owning many dogs since my childhood. From Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Great Danes, chubby Bulldogs to happy and extremely smart rescue pups, I have been blessed as a kid thanks to my parents by many furry friends (including cats, crows and a wild boar!). This had a huge impact on me, it made me a more responsible and compassionate human. Dogs, and generi-cally pets, bring love and more balance to a family. In times where so many values have been lost to the frenetic lifestyle of this new century, dogs provide a moment of peace in my everyday life. They help me connect with my roots, with my surroundings; when I walk with a dog in the woods, I feel every smell, see every detail more clearly, I never feel alone. Your dog is not only a pet or a workdog, it is a friend, capable of bringing harmony in the life of all of your family, from your small kid, to your mysterious teen. Sometimes people do not give the dog the respect we owe it as a thou-sand year old wolf that chose to live by our side. This yearly contest is important to me as it helps reminding us all of the greatness of this bond and of all the value it brings to individuals and families alike. Treat your pets with love and respect and it is amazing what you can achieve with them. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to peak in a window of your life through the pictures you send of your beloved dogs.

OFFICERS PERSPECTIVE O CONCEALED CARRYALL ACTION SHOTGUNNERS

As a veteran police officer and current pro-fessional shooter, I have a unique view of the concealed carry issue. Do I think the general public is safer with more guns on the street? Why should I carry? What should I carry? How should I carry it? These are all questions I field on a regular basis. Carrying a defen-sive weapon is a very personal decision. Con-sider the following and it may give you some food for thought.

An off icers p ersp e ctive on conceale d c arr y

“Don’t forget to add a flashlight to your ‘tool box’. When we are talking about deadly force situations, it’s imperative that you can see what you are shooting at. A light can also be a deterrent in and of itself. “

Dianna Muller

Why should I carry? During 22 years in law enforcement, I’ve wit-nessed the worst that humanity can serve up. Just because I haven’t been a victim of this crime or that crime, I have responded to countless calls where victims have been con-fronted with evil. I’ve seen the devastation, the vulnerability, the terror that comes with a critical incident. Not one of them ‘expected’ to become a victim that day. It just happens.

Choosing to carry a firearm is more like choosing to wear a seatbelt. You don’t get into the car and put your seatbelt on hoping or ex-pecting to get into a crash, you just recognize the possibility and prepare accordingly. Of-ficers have a saying that we are only minutes away….when seconds count!

How should I carry? This is the where the decision becomes per-sonal. It will take a process of trial and er-ror to find exactly what you like/prefer. My personal favorite is a ‘sticky holster’ in an appendix carry position. Although we can agree that on the body carry is safer and fast-er to deploy, sometimes that is not always an option. The market is responding to the in-creased interest in concealed carry and there is a plethora of alternative options. Compa-nies are coming out with full lines of designer quality purses that have designated compart-ments.

When considering a purse or a bag, recognize the biggest negative is the possibility of losing control of your bag. That’s why it’s import-ant to select a bag or purse with not only a concealed, but a truly ‘hidden’ compartment. If you purse falls into the hands of an unap-proved person, aka thief or child, they will most likely rummage through the top, take valuables and ditch the purse. If you can find the firearm compartment from the primary access point, then odds are a bag guy may as well!

It can be a hassle to choose to carry and it’s a huge responsibility, but it’s worth the effort if and when you are face to face with a bad sit-uation. With the right set up, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort or convenience.

What should I carry? This is probably the most frequently asked question. Some of the issues at hand are the size and experience level of the person, and the design of the firearm.

Smaller stature people, like women, have a more difficult time concealing a firearm on their person. Furthermore, the inexpe-rienced shooter may make the mistake of thinking a small, light-weight gun is a good choice for a smaller, lighter framed person. This is not true! A larger, full sized gun with more weight actually absorbs and helps off-set the recoil. A smaller/lighter gun recoils more violently. If a gun recoils violently, it’s not comfortable or controllable. The shooter will likely suffer in their accuracy, possibly create bad habits like flinching or it may even turn them off completely to shooting. Another issue with small firearms is that they have different angles on the grip and they may naturally set your front sight too high upon full extension. All of these reasons make it a good idea for you to ‘try before you buy’. Many large ranges have a good selection of rental guns. You can also use social media to inquire from your immediate circle and they will most likely let you give theirs a try!Don’t forget to add a flashlight to your ‘tool box’. When we are talking about deadly force situations, it’s imperative that you can see what you are shooting at. A light can also be a deterrent in and of itself.

Given the current events of today’s society, it’s more important than ever to consider carry-ing a defensive firearm. Do I think more guns in the hands of citizens make the country saf-er? You bet. There is an obvious caveat. Guns in the hands of GOOD GUYS makes every-one safer. If you choose to carry, your life and your family’s lives are worth the effort to find the right firearm, the right carry system, and the right training. If you have any questions, you can message me at Dianna Muller 3 gun on Facebook! #keepcalmandcarryon

When I think of Fiocchi shotshells, the first thing I think of is the word “Champion”. A person who has defeated or surpassed all ri-vals in a competition. That is exactly what their comprehensive line of shotshells, de-signed for 3-gun competition represents. All of the 3G+JM competition shotshells share the following features. A rim design that is manufactured to very close tolerances, which insures dependable feeding and extraction. Powder and primer combinations that result in dependable function with minimal recoil, along with less fouling and smoke. The wad-ding selection on each load contributes to less recoil and predictable shot patterns. And top it all off with a well defined crimp that allows for fast and consistent reloading.

First off their 3G+JM 7/8 ounce 12 gauge slug, at 1300 fps, is about the most perfect loading for the application that I have ever used. The 1300 fps velocity allows for a flat trajectory and the 7/8 ounce weight of the slug contributes to low recoil. This load works great in just about all gas and recoil operated shotguns. The wad design allows the wad to travel to the target attached to the slug. This feature alone allows a greater level of accuracy in a larger variety of 12 gauge bore sizes and choke combinations.

The most outstanding feature of the 3G+JM slug is the red coating. This coating allows for minimal leading of the bore. It also results in a drastic reduction in airborne lead, which means less smoke. When shooting rapid fire many shotshells produce so much smoke that the view of the targets is obscured. Fiocchi’s proprietary red coating on their competition slugs alleviates this hazard. Also, the clear hull and red slug allows the shooter to instant-

Jerry Miculek

ly identify the slug load. This is an important feature in competitions that require shooters to shoot different types of loads, such as bird-shot, buckshot, and slugs, all during one sin-gle stage of fire.

Next up is the 3G+JM 12 guage, 9 pellet, buckshot load. The velocity is 1250 fps, which works great in most gas and recoil operated shotguns. Again, the clear hull allows for the proper identification of the load. The buck-shot pellets are nickel plated and ride inside of a protective wad. These two features result in a extraordinarily predictable patterns with few flyer, which is very important in competi-tions where no-shoot targets are in very close proximity to shoot targets.

My favorite birdshot is the 3G+JM 1 ounce, 1150 fps, 12 gauge load. This load consist of 1 ounce of high antimony shot, which deforms less when fired. This insures great shot pat-terns. Probably my best kept secret, this load provides low recoil and enough lead to con-quer any 3-gun stage. I absolutely love this load and it works flawlessly in my gas operat-ed JM 930 Mossberg shotgun. However, for those of you with Magnum gas operated shot-guns or recoil operated shotguns, you might require a heavier load to insure proper func-tion. Fiocchi provides this option with their 3G+JM 1 1/8 ounce, 1250 fps, high antimony shot, 12 gauge load. Fiocchi USA is the first ammunition company to offer a full line of shotshells taylored specif-ically for the needs of the Action Shotgun and 3-Gun sports. I am proud to have been able to consult with the Fiocchi team during the development of these loads and highly recom-mend them to all action shotgunner.

“As a professional 3-Gun shooter, accura-cy, and reliability are everything, especially when it comes to your rifle game.  It wasn’t until 2015 that I first learned about Fiocchi’s incredible line of Rifle Ammunition.  I was immediately impressed by its accuracy and reliability.  After extensive testing in practice and competition, and 3 years of continuous shooting, it has never let me down.

Some of my personal favorites are the 50 Grain V-Max 223 from the Extrema Line for targets 300 yards in and the 69 Grain Sierra Match King  223 from the Exacta line for be-yond 300.   The 50 Gr. V-Max is flat and soft shooting, and exceptionally accurate!  The 69 Gr. Sierra Match King is my long range target slayer that I can always count on!  It is my opinion that Fiocchi is the best ammuni-tion on the market.”

I will have an opportunity to get an even better rifle portrait for you with my jersey prominently showing FIOCCHI tomorrow.  I realized that every damn photo is a group photo or old or something is in the way block-ing the words.

Heather Miller

I came across Fiocchi’s line of rifle ammuni-tion fairly recently; however it did not take long for it to earn the title of my go to ammo. Right off the bat I was impressed by the con-sistent accuracy I was getting with their so called “entry level” ammo.

While testing it through my chronograph I was getting insanely consistent results across all the ammo I shot. I’m at the point now where if I need to test out a new barrel or test the reliability of a gun, I’ll only run Fiocchi through it.

Because of the thousands of rounds of Fiocchi rifle ammo I’ve shot, I know that if there’s a failure, it is not the ammo’s fault. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this ammo to anyone!

pioneered the first Short Barreled Rifles (SBRs) in history. Plains or “Hawken” rifles featuring shorter barrels to accommodate horsemen and smaller calibers targeting medium size game, followed shortly. Pis-tols were still used for close combat or as a last ditch weapon. Cross country wagon trains and eventually railroads brought the latest innovations in firearms from the east coast. Frontiersmen and Guns That Forged a Nation

If the Kentucky rifle had a weakness, it was the same as the pistols of the day: they were single shot and slow to load and fire. While a competent rifleman could get off two to three aimed shots in a minute, shooting at a greater rate caused hurried and inac-curate shots. As a result, gunsmiths de-veloped the percussion cap system and ultimately, the fully enclosed metallic car-tridge. At first, single rifle cartridges were loaded manually, one at a time. Eliminat-ing muzzle loading steps helped, but there had to be a better method. Along came re-volvers such as the Colt Navy percussion pistol of 1851 and the Smith & Wesson Model 1. The Model 1 (1857) was Smith & Wesson’s first revolver and utilized a ro-tating cylinder holding seven .22 rimfire cartridges and it became the first in a long, successful line of martial and commercial revolvers produced by the company. The idea of the single shot muff gun or derrin-ger was short lived and quickly gave way to firearms featuring greater capacity. This concept thrives today as manufacturers attempt maximize cylinder and magazine capacity for self-defense.Shotguns, which had been around since the late 1700s, were used sparingly dur-ing the Civil War and only then, by cav-

discovered the cold, damp New England climate was not conducive to reliable per-formance. Additionally, parts broke under heavy use and no spares were to be found. Thus, early colonial gunsmiths sought to replace antiquated designs and improve upon early flintlocks.

In the early 1700s, German gunsmiths im-migrating to Pennsylvania pioneered the concept of mating a larger stock to a longer rifled barrel, which greatly improved ac-curacy. Coupled with the reliability of the flintlock ignition system, the Pennsylva-nia or Kentucky rifle was born and served early hunters and soldiers for nearly 100 years with few changes. So effective was the design that it served as the primary battle rifle in the French and Indian War, the American Revolution, and the War of 1812.

In his 1924 book, The Kentucky Rifle, Cap-tain John G. W. Dillin said: “an unknown smith … fashioned a rifle which changed the whole course of world history; made possible the settlement of a continent; and ultimately freed our country of foreign domination… (it was) fatally precise; dis-tinctly American….”

As explorers moved further west, carbine versions with shorter barrels and stocks became necessary to effectively navigate thick brush, rivers, and streams. In the ear-ly 1800s, the Lewis and Clark Expedition relied on rifles with barrels shortened by six to eight inches. In effect, the explorers

Gun ownership is an intricate part of the fabric of the American way of life. From the wheellock rifle at Plymouth Rock to modern semiautomatic rifles, firearms ownership has embodied the deepest held tenets of the ideology of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Once deemed suitable only for military applications, AR-15s are now owned by millions of hunters, plinkers, and sportsmen. Although ear-ly census statistics show firearm owner-ship was relatively rare, each generation of American firearm owners has looked at the past and carried forward lessons learned. These changes in mindset fueled advancements in technology, developed new platforms, and resulted in widespread acceptance of firearms by the public. The historical journey has been exciting and interesting at every turn, and it will con-tinue with future generations.

Early Settlers and Guns That Mapped the Frontier

As early settlers set out in search of reli-gious freedom, they realized the ability to protect themselves from predator animals and potentially hostile indigenous peoples was second only to their being able to feed the colony. John Alden, a barrel maker, wasn’t a soldier; he was a citizen just like you and I. But, his .66-caliber wheellock was likely one of a cadre of guns includ-ing other wheellocks, smoothbore mus-kets, snaphaunces (early flintlocks), and possibly pistols brought ashore from the Mayflower. He and the colonists soon

alry units. Although they were attractive for close quarters combat on naval ships and from horseback, the percussion fir-ing mechanism and single- or double-shot capacity was undesirable for sustained engagement with the enemy. Single shot shotguns, with longer barrels, were favora-ble for sportsmen for “birding.” Thus, the role of the shotgun remained limited for another 50 years. Responding to the need for a rifle with a greater rate of fire while maintaining ac-curacy, Christopher Spencer developed the Spencer Model 1860. Utilizing a fall-ing-block design featuring a lever which doubled as a trigger and a buttstock load-ing seven round tubular magazines, the Model 1860 was capable of firing between 20 and 30 rounds per minute. The U.S. Army ordered 100,000 rifles in 1863 mak-ing it the first magazine fed repeating rifle adopted for military use. Before the war, there were approximately 250,000 firearms in America. By the end of the war, mass production materialized and the U.S. and Confederate armies purchased millions of guns which soldiers were allowed to take home after hostilities subsided. This repre-sented the first time in history a majority of the American population was armed.

Cowboys and Guns That Won the West During Reconstruction, Americans turned their attention westward. While the Rem-ington Rolling Block with a rate of fire of 12 to 15 rounds per minute was considered the best single shot of its time. However, technology was changing. The invention of smokeless powder sparked a flurry of new designs in both rifles and pistols.

cartridges, the 1894 was designed with a sturdier frame to be used with the newly created Winchester Center Fire smokeless cartridge (.30 WCF). The rifle held car-tridges in a tube mounted under the barrel and capacity varied by length. The design proved versatile and effective for hunting, self-defense, and waging war. Eventually, 7 million of the rifles would be sold and today you would be hard pressed to find a gun enthusiast who has not held, owned, or fired a Model 1894.

Crooks, Cops, and Guns That Fought Crime The Depression brought out the worst in some and the role of larger than life ce-lebrity criminal was born. In their quests to evade capture by police, a Who’s Who of criminals such as John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Ma Barker, Baby Face Nelson, and Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, took up arms as crooks and cops endeavored to outgun each other.Clyde Barrow was typical of the criminal element’s thinking of the day. After being gifted several .30-caliber Browning Auto-matic Rifles (BAR) by an associate, Bar-row quickly became enamored with its rate of fire, ability to penetrate automobile sheet metal, and capacity of its 20 round detachable box magazine. The BAR was extremely effective against law enforce-ment officers armed only with revolvers, light rifles, and shotguns; so Barrow began targeting National Guard Armories to ac-quire additional examples. In addition to the BAR, his gang favored, among others, the Colt Model 1903 semiautomatic pistol in .32-caliber and the Remington Model 11 shotgun. Other criminals followed suit and obtained the most lethal firearms they could find.

Shotguns came into vogue in the 1880s.

They were not as popular as rifles due to their limited effective range and capaci-ty, but found a unique niche among stage coach and bank guards because of their point and shoot capability in close quar-ters. It is alleged that legendary lawman Doc Holliday’s only confirmed kill was with a short barreled shotgun. Nonethe-less, shotguns would not move into wide-spread use until the invention of the pump and semi-automatics versions around the turn of the century. Rifles however, contin-ued to be popular with consumers. Building upon the company’s 1866 “Yellow Boy” and 1873 “Gun That Won the West” designs, John Moses Browning developed lever action rifles models for Winchester in 1886 and 1892. But, the Model 1894 was his signature success. While prior mod-els were designed to utilize pistol caliber

In 1873, Americans were introduced to the Colt Single Action Army (SAA) revolver. Building on the success of the Model 1851 Navy, Colt designed the “Peacemaker” to function with the metallic self-contained cartridge in .45 Colt caliber. Although it had to be loaded manually via a “loading gate,” the pistol afforded shooters six shots as fast as the hammer could be cocked and dropped. A gun for everyman, the “Peace-maker” was carried by soldiers, lawmen, outlaws, and frontier ranchers. So versatile was the pistol, it has the distinction of hav-ing been carried by cavalrymen at Little Big Horn, soldiers in the Philippines, Wy-att Earp at the O.K. Corral, and Lt. George S. Patton in pursuit of the bandit Pancho Villa in Mexico. The Colt SAA is still in use today in the hands of thousands of Cow-boy Action Shooters.

At the end of the 19th century, most Law Enforcement departments did not recog-nize the value of standardization of issued firearms. This changed in 1896 when Po-lice Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt ordered 4,500 Colt Police revolvers cham-bered in .32 Colt. Roosevelt’s vision was timeless. Training on a single platform could now be accomplished and stand-ardization of ammunition represented thinking that was ahead of its time. As the Depression deepened, crime spread and agencies at all levels found themselves fac-ing criminals with superior arms. By ne-cessity they were forced to reconsider the contents of their armories. FBI director J. Edgar Hoover mandated the purchase of and training with shoulder fired automatic weapons including BARs and Thompson machineguns. In doing so, Hoover fore-shadowed a trend: ensuring officers had capabilities equal to or greater than their criminal counterparts. Law Enforcement learned the value of being prepared for dif-ferent situations. Today, it is not uncom-mon for a patrol officer to respond to a call with a pistol on his belt, a shotgun in a rack, and an automatic rifle in the trunk of his patrol vehicle. War and America’s Citizen Soldiers At the Battle of San Juan Hill during the Spanish American War, 750 Spanish troops sporting Mauser Model 1893 rifles delayed the advance of 15,000 American troops. Afterward, the U.S. Army decid-ed to develop a replacement for the aging Krag-Jorgensen rifle. The Springfield Mod-el 1903 bolt action rifle was born and was later paired with the Colt Model of 1911 pistol during World War I. After the war, Springfield, Colt, Smith & Wesson, and other manufacturers turned their attention

of the Vietnam War.The 1911 proved to be an effective second-ary weapon in WWI but in the run up to WWII, Colt’s production efforts could not keep up with the demand. As a result, Colt licensed production to Union Switch and Signal, Remington Rand, and Singer with varying degrees quality and timely pro-duction. By 1941, Singer was barely able to meet their production goals and only produced 500 pistols. These are among the rarest martial small arms and are coveted by collectors. Colt and its contractors pro-duced nearly 2.7 million 1911s for the U.S. Army, Navy and Marines over a 75 years period. In the 1980s, the 1911a1 was re-placed by the Beretta M9 in the U.S. Army inventory. Despite its 100-year old pedi-gree, the 1911a1 remains a popular choice for plinking and self-defense today. Modern Law Enforcement, Military, and Consumer Usage Teddy Roosevelt’s 1896 practice of stand-ardized arms, ammunition, and training became widespread over the next 100 years. Despite the wartime and commer-cial success of the Model 1911 and other semiautomatics, most departments relied on the revolver as their service weapon of choice. However, in 1967 the Illinois State Police adopted the Smith & Wesson Model 39 semiautomatic pistol. This represented the first time a major Law Enforcement agency issued anything other than a re-volver as a service weapon. Many depart-ments were reluctant to change due to the weight of the all-steel firearms and fully loaded magazines, but the introduction of the polymer framed Glock 17 in 1982 changed that mindset. In a short time, the Glock 17 and its sister models captured 65% of the American Law Enforcement

the Model 1903A4’s bolt action design was conducive to aimed fire and was designat-ed as a sniper rifle. The M1903 was phased out at the end of WWII but the M1 went on to serve in Korea and the early stages of the Vietnam War before being replaced by the M-14 and later, M-16 rifles. The M1 was extremely accurate and is still used by enthusiasts in vintage matches today.

In addition to the success of the M1 and M1903, shotguns, revolvers, and semiau-tomatic pistols were utilized on the battle-field. Although six different models were approved for use by the U.S. Army, a pair of Winchesters, the Model 1897 and Mod-el 1912, were the most widely adopted. The M97 was traditionally shorter and could be affixed with a bayonet. Both were based on Browning designs and evolved into formi-dable hunting firearms after the war. The M12, like the Garand, was utilized by the military in Korea and into the early stages

to developing firearms for the consumer market. Smith and Wesson introduced a number of new firearms which, most no-tably, were the K-22 and .357 Magnum ca-liber revolvers. Meanwhile, Colt continued to perfect its Model 1911 into the 1911a1 configuration. General George S. Patton called it, “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” Its official designation is: U.S. Rifle, Caliber 30, M1, but you probably know it as the M1 Garand. The M1 moved into service in 1936 becoming the first semiautomatic rifle in the U.S. armory. It was slated as a replacement to the Springfield Model 1903 but due to wartime needs, both were built and used throughout the war. The M1 fea-tured a John Browning designed action and was fed by an eight round ‘en bloc’ clip which automatically ejected with a dis-tinctive ‘ping’ after the last shot. Although technically inferior to the M1’s rate of fire,

market and was used by police and mili-tary in 48 countries. The American military has traditional-ly consisted of highly skilled marksmen. Based on its success in Vietnam and other conflicts around the world, the M-16 be-came a stalwart of Police and SWAT teams. Available in a variety of barrel, rail, stock, and optic configurations, the M-16 and its variants are suited for breaching doors and clearing hallways, long range sniping, and everything in between. The platform liter-ally offers something for every application. Just as with the lever action rifles of the American West, the M-16 is chambered in a myriad of calibers to meet specific needs. In 1985 the Beretta M9 replaced the ag-ing 1911a1 as the sidearm of choice for all branches of the U.S. military. Throughout its 30 year tenure, the M9 received a luke-warm response from servicemen based on performance and reliability testing. The pistol remained largely unchanged until 2006 when a Picatinny rail was added to accommodate lights and lasers. By 2012, the Marines conducted trials and decid-ed to move back to the 1911a1 platform and they awarded Colt’s Defense a con-tract based in its Rail Gun. The Colt’s M45 USMC pistol incorporated upgrades stem-ming from demand in the consumer mar-ket: better grips, improved sights, ambi-dextrous controls, National Match barrels, and increased magazine capacity. In early 2017, 1,000 of the USMC pistols were de-commissioned due to faulty frame finish-es and returned to Colt’s under warranty. These were sold via auction representing the first time martial pistols were sold to the general public since the 1960s. Firearms have been interwoven in the tap-estry of America since its inception. From settling the first colonies to blazing trails across the Great Plains and Rocky Moun-tains to the Pacific Ocean, early Americans carried with them God, guts, and guns to sustain them and help forge a great nation. Today’s Gun Culture is steeped in these centuries old traditions as well as legal and Constitutional protections. Political scientist Robert Spitzer said, “the modern American gun culture is founded on three factors: the proliferation of firearms since the earliest days of the nation, the con-nection between personal ownership of weapons and the country’s revolutionary and frontier history, and the cultural my-thology regarding the gun in the frontier and in modern life.” As the saying goes, an armed society is a polite society. As a result, the Founding Fathers would likely be pleased with how we as a nation have evolved in protecting the 2nd Amendment which provides protections for all of the other Amendments.

tols are highly coveted among collectors. Recently, the U.S. Army and Marine Corps Special Operations Capable (MARSOC) units decided to transition from the M9 and M45 to the Sig P320 and Glock 19 re-spectively. As of 2015, there were an estimated 40 mil-lion men, women, and youth recreational shooters in the United States. Previously enjoyed by mostly able bodied shooters, there has been a significant increase in training and competitive opportunities for disabled persons in shooting sports. With more than 15,000 ranges available countrywide, enthusiasts can participate in rifle and pistol target shooting; shot-gun skeet, trap, and sporting clays; 3-Gun, Cowboy Action, and Practical Pistol com-petitions; and an assortment of other ac-tivities. Firearms for these activities run the gamut from revolvers to single action and semiautomatic pistols; semiautomatic, single shot, and muzzle loading rifles; and semiautomatic and pump action shotguns of all makes and models. The choices are endless. With an estimated 1.2 million violent crimes per year in the United States, it is no wonder another area of exponential growth is that of personal Self-Defense training. The FBI estimates states who adopted less onerous concealed carry laws reduced crime rates with murders (8.5%), assaults (7.0%), and robberies (3.0%) lead-ing the way. Firearms guru Colonel Jeff Cooper said: “Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician. It is a social duty to resist violent crime.” With 14.5 mil-lion Americans licensed to carry concealed weapons in 2016, it is clear more women and men are engaging in firearms related

“We shoot a lot of ammunition around here; more in a month than most people shoot in their lives. Because of this we work with a va-riety of companies to meet our logistic needs but the bulk of our NATO ammunition comes from Fiocchi. As a result we have a great deal of experience with the product as well as it’s competitors. The words accuracy, consisten-cy, and reliability come to mind. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t match-grade ammo and it’s also not the cheapest stuff available. What Fiocchi has done is met us in the middle with an ammunition that will outperform most shooters without deleterious effects on your wallet. Value for dollar, you will not find bet-ter performance for high-volume training, testing, or recreation.”

Although it seems I live on the range I get precious little time to practice personally. When I do get the opportunity I want to test myself not my equipment so I want the best guns, gear and ammunition available.

My time is valuable and my training is crit-ical so I choose Fiocchi USA ammunition every time. Over the last couple of decades I have shot enough 9mm, .223 and .308 to sink a battleship and I have gotten 100% perfor-mance out of every single round of Fiocchi USA ammunition  every single time. I use it because I do not have time, or money, to waste and it’s the only training ammunition I recommend to my students for the same reasons.

FIOCCHI SHOTSHELLFIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOG

There is one name synonymous with perfor-mance on the American shotshell market: Fiocchi. For five generations our family’s pas-sion to deliver the highest quality shotshells to hunters and sportsmen alike has driven our tireless pursuit of perfection. Part of this dedication led to the creation of our Ameri-can loading and manufacturing facility over 30 years ago. Fiocchi of America has since been committed to the cultivation and preservation of the American shooting culture by offering

phenomenal performance at exceptional pric-es. This is clearly demonstrated by our 2018 product line which offers the most complete lineup of shells to the American market, unri-valed by any other manufacturer on the planet. No matter your discipline, your ammunition choice has never been clearer, from our family to yours, Fiocchi of America.

No matter i f i t i s in the rain or in the w ind, I c an a lways count on them!

My name is Josey Martin and I am on the Fiocchi Shotgun Pro Staff Team. I have beenshooting for about five years and have tried many different shells. The ammunition that I love shoot-ing and shoot as much as I can is the Fiocchi Little Rino 7 .5. These are great shells for any and all weather conditions which is very important be-cause you never know when it’s going to get su-per windy or start pouring on you. No matter if it is in the rain or in the wind, I can always count on them to break the target. Another great thing about these shells is the fact that you can shoot them all day long without getting sore - which is

great when you are training hard and have a tour-nament coming up! These shells are very reliable. I have not shot a shell that misfired. Even though for most people a shell not firing only happens once in awhile, that one shell can throw off your focus and concentration on the next target you shoot. The 1 oz. load has almost no recoil and is great for crushing targets. I shoot the Little Rino because I want the best performance possible. Little Rino is consistent and hard-hitting. It is quality ammo. I am proud to be apart of the team and say that I shoot Fiocchi Little Rhino ammunition.

HUNTING & COOKINGFIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOG

Cooking on the trailThe hunters were not wasteful: larger parts of the animals were roasted and sometimes served with currant or other sauces, while smaller portions went into soups, stews, sausages, pies, and pasties. Skins were used for many different purposes including clothing and preparing or storing food.

Beside roasting, the hunters who chased herds of bison across the flat plains would place pieces of meat, water, and sometimes vegetables, in a hole in the ground lined with cleaned buffalo skin. They made a “stone boiled” stew by heating rocks in a fire and adding them to the broth until the meat was

tender enough to eat. Meat was also pre-served by cutting it into very thin strips and dehydrating it in the sun or over the fire. This tough, dried meat, called ‘jerky’ or ‘jerked buf-falo’ would keep for several years. It could be shredded, mixed with buffalo fat and formed into cakes called “Pemmican”.

Although they were unlikely to have herbs or spices to flavour the foods, they undoubtedly relished the food. Narcissa Whitman wrote that her husband had “a different way for cooking every piece of meat… All our variety consists of the different ways of cooking.” Tan-talisingly she does not describe them!

PIONEER WOMEN HUNTERS FIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOG

As they staggered on to dry land after a long voyage from Europe, the first female settlers in America knew they had a lot to learn, includ-ing how they were going to feed their families perhaps on an even longer journey to their new homes. Food would have to be hunted, trapped, foraged or acquired from Native Americans.

The first settlers from Britain depended to a large extent on the foodstuffs imported from home and were reluctant to change their diets. Until they learned how to grow corn and other grain and to hunt, many died from starvation and disease. Less than half of the Pilgrim families that landed at Plymouth Rock sur-vived their first winter in America and fewer than 150 of the 700 colonists who founded Jamestown were left after three years. In time they learned to appreciate the unfamiliar, but abundant, fish and game and which crops were best to cultivate.

Those who chose to venture inland or head westwards had to depend on their skills as hunters to get sufficient protein to give them energy for the arduous journey and the toil to tame the land they claimed. They carried a good supply of food. A typical family of four, on a wagon train in the 1830s, carried

(buffalo) meat for two months exclusively. Am cloyed with it. I do not know how I shall endure this part of the journey.”

While Narcissa may not have hunted herself, other women did. Many frontier women packed rifles, went out into the woods and bagged turkeys, ducks, squirrels or deer for their table, when men were away on longer hunting or trapping trips. Officers’ wives went along on hunts and had a blast. Frances Roe, a lieutenant’s wife wrote ‘I love army life here in the West, and I love all things that it brings to me – the grand mountains, the plains, and the fine hunting’. Some started young. Martha Jane Cannary, better known as Calamity Jane, dic-tated an autobiography, Life and Adventures of Calamity Jane (1897) in which she claims to have started hunting, aged 13, in 1865 on the five-month journey from Missouri to Virginia City, Montana. “While on the way the greater portion of my time was spent in hunting along with the men and hunters of the party. By the time we reached Virginia City I was consid-ered a remarkable good shot and a fearless rider for a girl of my age.”

Exhibition shooter, Annie Oakley, born Phoe-be Ann Moses in 1860, maintained a lifelong love of hunting, having first started using guns to bring home game for her family. Annie helped open up the world of shooting to women by carefully managing her public im-age. Unlike Jane, Annie maintained an air of femininity and Victorian formality, dressing in modest, elegant skirts and riding sidesaddle.

By the end of the 19th Century there were many celebrated female hunters, at all levels of society from the aristocratic Medora Vallom-brosa, who gave her name to a town in North Dakota in 1883, to Ella Bird, wife of a Texas Ranger who followed her husband to Coman-

800 pounds of flour, 200 pounds of lard, 700 pounds of bacon, 200 pounds of beans, 100 pounds of fruit, 75 pounds of coffee and 25 pounds of salt. Some took cattle, but for breed-ing at their destination not eating on the way. Keeping cattle was labor intensive, and needed protection from both animal and human predators along the trail. Journeys of over 1000 miles from Missouri to Oregon or California could take six months and more over vast areas with little or no human habitation where supplies could be replenished. Depending on the season and locality the hunters on the wag-on train would have brought back deer, bison, moose, and even bear, for the pot or spit.

Many women recorded the ardours and excite-ment of their journeys in diaries or letters. The missionary Narcissa Whitman describes her long and tedious journey towards the Rocky Mountains, which covered just 15 miles or so in a good day. Her diet consisted mostly of buffalo meat, supplemented with milk from their cows. At first she relished the experience. “I never was so contented and happy before, neither have I enjoyed such health for years,” she wrote on June 4, 1836. By July 23, 1836 the oppressive heat, boring routine and monoto-nous diet had worn away the romance. Now she complained: “Have been living on fresh

che country in King County, Texas. The Birds lived off the land and camped in a buffalo-hide tepee while on buffalo hunts. Ella’s husband gave her a Model 1873 Winchester repeater. A natural, she once bagged three roosting wild turkeys with a single shot. When her husband died in 1888, she stayed on the prairie, fed her family on antelope and deer and sold cowboy fashion items she made from skins. She also shot wolves for bounty money.

Not all the best sharp-shooting women were born in hunting country. New York city girl, Grace Gallatin, who married nature writer, Earnest Thompson Seton, was determined to share her husband’s passion for hunting and fishing. She learned to shoot on a trip with him to Wyoming’s Teton Range. She was par-ticularly proud of her first trophy: an elk at 135 yards, with a single shot through the heart and brain “he never knew what killed him.”

Another couple who shared the Seton’s interest in studying nature were Augusta and Allan G Wallihan. After her marriage in 1885 Augusta learned to shoot in her late 40s and became a very successful hunter, keeping their larder well supplied with fresh meat. She took her dog Hacke on fishing trips; he would leap up and grab the trout she pulled and bring them to her. The Wallihans are also known as pioneering photographers; they used massive camera weighing ten pounds or more and mounted on tripod legs, with slow shutter speeds. Despite these challenges they took wonderful photographs and published two books: Hoofs, Claws and Antlers of the Rocky Mountains (1894) and Camera Shots at Big Game (1901). They were keen conservationists too; they lobbied for responsible game man-agement and protection of deer and elk from commercial over hunting.

Bison is leaner and more tender than beef but with a similar flavor, so use it as a substitute for beef in any of your favorite recipes, but with a shorter cooking time and on a lower tempera-ture. Marinate your steaks before barbecuing or broiling them on a medium heat. Tougher cuts such as brisket, chuck, stew meat or short ribs, are best broiled in a sauce till tender, with vegetables and spices. If you have bagged a bison make sure you use as much of the carcass as you can. You could boil up the tougher joints to make a delicious broth.Bison broth: 6-8 servings

Ingredients2 lbs bison shanks with bones1 lb bison (or beef) marrowbones1 large onion, quartered4 – 6 garlic cloves, peeled and cut in half2 inches of ginger root peeled1 tbsp black pepper seedsSea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Vegetables and flavourings:Add any vegetables you have to hand: diced carrots, turnips, squash; asparagus stems; bay leaves; parsley; rosemary; thyme.

For an oriental flavour you could add A large celeriac, diced; ½ Napa cabbage cut into thick slices; 5 to 6 baby bok choy; 2 tbsp. fish sauce.

1) Place the bison shanks and marrowbones in a large saucepan, cover with cold water and bring to a boil on a medium high heat. Boil for about 10 minutes.2) Remove the meat and the bones, throw away the water and clean the saucepan. Rinse the meat with cold water to remove the scum. 3) Return the meat to the saucepan and add the onions, garlic, black pepper seeds, bay leaves, ginger, and fish sauce if you are using it.4) Add enough water to cover the bones (8 to 10 cups). Cover the saucepan, bring the broth to a boil, turn it down and leave to simmer on a low heat for 3 to 4 hours, or until the meat is tender enough to be easily removed from the bones.5) When the meat is cooked, remove it and the bones from the broth and set aside. Strain the broth into a big bowl, using a fine mesh sieve to remove the onions, the black peppers seeds and the garlic cloves.6) Return the strained broth to the saucepan and season to taste. Add the meat, the marrow-bones, the vegetables, and simmer for another 15 to 20 minutes or until the vegetables are nice and tender.7) Add any green herbs or vegetables such as bok choy or parsley about a minute before you take the broth off the stove, and serve.

This recipe would also work with meat and bones from other large game such as deer.

CLAY TARGET FIOCCHI OF AMERICA - 2018 CATALOG

For 2018 Fiocchi of America will continue its long standing tradition of delivering the high-est quality, most diverse product offering to the American clay target shooter. At clay target ranges from Florida to Washington state one thing you can be certain of is Fiocchi of Amer-ica’s reputation for producing shotshell loads that deliver performance, value, and results. It has been a point of pride for our family to offer the widest array of target loads to the Ameri-can clay target shooter.

Fiocchi of America brought shotshell produc-tion to the United States back in 1984. This was the first of a long line of serious investments into the American market by the Fiocchi family. In more recent years we have invested in state of the art ballistic testing equipment, and patterning measuring systems to improve the quality of our shotshells. Considerable in-vestment in loading machines has allowed us to increase our capacity to deliver these loads to market. In 2017 Fiocchi of America will continue to pursue our promise to deliver the perfect shotshell to the American clay target shooter.

The first commitment to delivering on that promise is to have a high quality shell that everyone can afford. This is why we have de-veloped our Shooting Dynamics line of target shells. Putting reliable, consistent performing shells in the hands of the most shooters pos-sible is the driving force behind this line. We hold true to our commitment of using only top quality components even in our price driven offerings. Quality first run chilled shot goes into one-piece shot cups, with cushioned wads

propelled by clean burning powders, topped off by the world renowned Fiocchi primer. With Fiocchi of America’s Shooting Dynamics line shooting a lot does not mean spending a lot, and rest assured that the same tireless re-search and development goes into the produc-tion these shells. You can have confidence that whether you are opening a new box or case of shells your leads won’t change, as consistency is paramount in all of Fiocchi’s clay target load lines.

Our famous Crushers and White Rinos come out of our ultra-exclusive Exacta line, which features optimally matched one-piece cush-ioned wads, the cleanest burning powders on the market propelling shot cups full of only target quality shot towards your targets, ab-solutely crushing them on impact. The best of our Exacta loads will continue to be offered in classic paper hulls for the most discerning shooters. Fiocchi of America’s Exacta line has become the industry standard bearer to which all of the competition aspires to be. With the time and effort you invest in perfecting your craft, why settle for anything less than Exacta Clay Target Loads?

As avid clay target shooters the Fiocchi fami-ly has long held a reputation for delivering an expansive offering to the market. This is why you will be happy to find high quality selec-tions for a wide variety of your clay target shell needs. We were a leader in 1oz. loads when they first began to gain popularity. Shooters began to realize the benefits of the minimized recoil coupled with Fiocchi of America’s supe-rior patterning shells, and have been absolutely

crushing targets ever since. Another example of Fiocchi of America’s dedication to pro-ducing the right load for any situation is our Spreader loads. Designed to decimate close range targets, Fiocchi Spreaders give semi auto shooters, who are limited to one choke per station, the ability to engage targets which are set a considerable distance apart. For instance you may see a rabbit as your first target and a long presentation as the second. In the past this could offer quite a challenge to a semi auto shooter as opposed to a competitor using an over under. With Fiocchi’s Spreader loaded as you first shot, the playing field has now been leveled.

With numerous requests for “more speed!” Fiocchi of America introduced our “X” loads in the shooting Dynamics line. These loads are ideal for shooters who like an econom-ical shell with a bit more punch, and are de-signed with trap shooters specifically in mind. They are also great for ranges that host cor-porate and/or charity events. These also offer a great money saving option for competitors who shoot particular Exacta loads in competi-tion but want a more affordable option to prac-tice with. With offerings in both 1 ounce and 1 1/8 ounce loads that travel at 1250 feet per sec-ond these loads offer a level of consistency and performance rarely found in other offerings. When you consider the entire package; clean burning powders, smooth recoil impulse, great patterns, and hard hitting lead what is not to love about Fiocchi of America’s Shooting Dy-namics’ X loads?

On the other end of the scale we have our low-recoil training target loads. As an early pioneer of the training load market Fiocchi of America continues to deliver a softer shooting load that is designed to allow new shooters to focus on the fundamentals without a an over-whelming amount of recoil or shooter fatigue. Many shooters who switched to the 7/8oz loads found that they scores did not suffer and some-

times increased because of the ability to focus more on their technique. Another segment of shooters who benefit from these loads are ones who have recoil sensitivity due to prolonged shooting careers, some had all but given up on the sport before finding the low-recoil loads. So whether you are just getting started or are a long time vet Fiocchi of America’s Training Target loads could be the solution you have been looking for.

Other loads we are proud to offer are our true 24 gram International loads, the vaunted Nick-el Crushers, and the environmentally friendly Exacta Steel Target loads. We feel that by offer-ing these options Fiocchi of America can fulfill all of your clay target shooting ammunition needs.

By partnering with American based compo-nent suppliers we have increased our ability to deliver the highest quality shotshells to more and more clay target shooters. Utilizing Amer-ican made powders, carefully couple with our world famous primers our ballisticians have been able to engineer a family of products that we feel is the most complete on the market. With our proven performance across all of the disciplines why look anywhere else? Let our passion for the sports be your unfair advantage in the stand.

It was a huge year for the USA and Fiocchi Pro Staff in international clay target com-petition. Fiocchi of America continues to be the Official Ammunition of the USA Sporting Clays Team and USA F.I.T.A.S.C. Team. Our premium ammunition is not only superior because of its clean burning, reduced felt recoil, and patterning, but is available to the USA Teams anywhere in the world.

At the 2017 World English held in San An-tonio, Texas, the USA Sporting Clays Team swept the entire event taking first in Open, Junior, Lady, Veteran, and Super Veteran divisions. Fiocchi Pro Staffer Anthony Matarese Jr. was back on the podium again finishing third overall. Contributing to the team wins included Fiocchi Pro Staff-

ers Matarese, Diane Sorantino, Alexandra Wampler, Ray Brown, Steve Edmondson, and Gary Walstrom. Edmondson won the Veteran division and Walstrom is the Su-per Veteran World Champion.

The 2017 World F.I.T.A.S.C. was held just outside Budapest, Hungry. USA F.I.T.A.S.C. Team kept up with their team-mates and completed a near sweep taking Gold in the Senior, Junior, Lady, and Super Veteran divisions. Representing the Fioc-chi Pro Staff on the Lady Team was Soran-tino and Walstrom on the Super Veteran Team.

Fiocchi Helps USA Teams to Win Gold Around the World

By Adam Pinto – Range Rep / Shoot Director

The Fiocchi Clay Target Pro Staff is the largest of any in the industry. We don’t only invest in the top shooters, but truly exceptional representatives of our brand. These are the people that exemplify our products on all levels. Diane Soranti-no is returning to both of the 2018 USA Sporting Clays Team and USA F.I.T.A.S.C. Team. Super Veteran Gary Walstrom is the Captain of the 2018 Super Veteran Team, and team member of the USA F.I.T.A.S.C. Team. The most impressive accomplish-ment was Anthony Matarese Jr. making the USA Sporting Clays Open Team with points from only four of the eight qualify-ing shoots.

All of the Pro Staff Shooters had a great year. From the accomplishments of the USA

Sporting Clays Team and USA F.I.T.A.S.C. Team, to Josey Martin winning High Over All at the Ducks Unlimited Continental in the Super Sporting event; Sorantino, Alex-andra Wampler, Ray Brown, and Walstrom doing extremely well on the PSCA Tour, it was incredible.

So, would you like to shoot better? Fiocchi of America has the most extensive prod-uct line with ammo for everyone that out-performs the others. Clean burning, less felt recoil, exceptional patterning, with a price point that fits most budgets. Pros to amateur to busting clays out back with the family… check out Fiocchi!

All of our blanks use smokeless powder for safety. Our 12INERT (previous item #12DUMMY) shotshell is a non-firing 12 gauge 2 ¾” 1 ounce shell that has the heft and feel of a real 12 gauge shell without the primer and powder. These are great for gunsmiths, gun training for new shotgun shooters, and for com-petitive shotgun shooters like 3-Gunners who want to practice loading and manipulating their shotguns without using live ammo.
