We are proud and exuberant to acclaim that we are ready with the third edition of ‘Pratibimb’ which as its literal meaning ‘reflection’ is the true reflection of our department’s remarkable feats and delighted moments of the past one year.

ChangeChange is the rule of the world and our department is no exception to it. This was yet another splendid year for our department. As a collective family, we’ve had extraordinary accomplishments be it be in curricular, co-curricular or extra-curricular activities. From the academic exams to artistic assessments, from business fests to cultural fiestas we have been nothing less than best in all.

CONFLUENCE

Confluence means, the way in which two or more things come together to become one single thing. As it is defined the freshman who attends college for the first time and the seniors of the college comes together under one roof.

The Department of The Department of Professional Studies at Christ University conducts an induction program for the newly joined students who are the strength of our college and makes them com-fortable and acquainted with the culture of this department. This is exclusively conducted by the second years for the first years. It is obvious that when we start something new, we fear. When a studentstudent joins the college for the first time, he will feel a little intimidated and may feel a little insecure in the new So, confluence plays a major role for such students. The core committee also conducts informal orientation, ice breakers, games and gives space for the juniors to bring out their talent and feel comfortable. The seniors also encourage the juniors to interact with the class and to socialize. The juniors should feel at home and carry a lot of memories from confluence. They would also have good memories and stories about confluence to share.

TheThe core committee members were guided by Mr. Jossy Peter Muttath. The weeks of hard work and effort fruitfully shown in the successful program ‘Confluence 2019’. The formal orientation towards the end facilitated the students to learn about their scholastic program, enlist themselves into add-on course and familiarise themselves with the rules and culture of the department and the university.

LEGO

Initiated back in 2016, LEGO is a student driven asso-ciation that constitutes of personality and grooming sessions towards honing communication skills, and giving an opportunity to the young minds to develop and intensify their confidence. This forum consists of two sets of skilled people - the trainers and the content developers.

They together improvise on activities blending it with a corporate touch, in order to help a Profes-sional Studies student.

This idea struck to the Director, Prof. Biju Tom's mind back in 2016, understanding that there is a need for the students to take out some time in a week and dedicate it towards identifying the hidden potentials present within oneself, and in the class giving students a different exposure.

The goal is to apportion best value addition of skills to every individual by means of conducting de-bates, group discussions on current affairs and burning topics, mock fests, presentations and various business related exertions.

KANNADA NUDI

Kannada Nudi is a language club, aiming to develop one’s understanding and speaking ability of Kanna-da language, with a special emphasis on providing contextualized learning. This includes sentences and words across various languages, and providing an insight into the local culture to further impress upon the meaning learnt by certain words.

Kannada Nudi has always strived towards making classes as relatable and interesting as possible, using various media such as movies, advertisements and songs to create an atmosphere conducive to both un-derstanding meanings, as well as pronunciations.

Students were first taught self introduction, including their name, the place they come from, the col-lege they are studying at etc., to help them build a better rapport with the people around Bangalore. Then they were taught Wh-words such as why, where, what etc to help them understand the context of the sentences. After some time into the programme, they were being taught on how to begin with basic conversations, starting with hailing an auto, buying a ticket on the bus, ordering at a hotel etc.

In the last few classes, the Kannada Nudi team aims to teach students how to read letters as well as provide an overall sense of the Kannada Language.

PROFUSE

The literary society of the Department of Professional Studies, PROFUSE, presented the fifth edition of its annual collective, which is crafted with care and a passion for the written word. “PROFUSE” is an amalgamation of “pro”, both short for “professional” and a prefix to express favour or support, and “fuse”, the seamless joining of the thoughts, ideas, emotions, and expressions, always varied and co-lourful but never fragmented. The PROFUSE team and the fruit of their labour - the collective - are both forums for a vibrant and unapologetic celebration of a multitude of voices that ultimately come together in unison.

This academic year saw the beginning of a new journey, with the first order of business being the re-cruitment of new writers to join the team as editors, all of whom shared a deep passion for writing and collaboration. After a three-stage selection process, the new members, along with the old guard, began envisioning this year’s edition of the collective. Having just reborn from the shadows with re-newed energy, it was now time to conquer the loftiest of goals. The journey has been a long and wind-ing one, equal parts treacherous and exhilarating, and it finally culminates at the highest of peaks.

Perched at the very top, Team PROFUSE takes you through the theme “Pinnacle” with stories embody-ing the epitome of the zenith. As they celebrate these ideals, they present to you their brainchild,

A HELPING HAND

It is not often that we get to see someone who actually made this quote a reality. One such person is Mr Suresh Verma of BCom Morning track programme, who donated his bone marrow to save the life of an 11-year-old girl suffering from blood cancer. His donation was a part of an initiative in the Universi-ty in his first year, in collaboration with a German NGO, for which he registered never knowing that he would be a match and, despite personal challenges and consequences to his health, he volunteered to donate his one marrow for a little girl called Akshaya who needed it urgently. Later on, he was of-fered to become the brand ambassador of the NGO and was given multiple opportunities to go to Ger-many in a fully funded capacity but he declined, and didn’t want to make this a big deal and saw it only as an opportunity to save another life.

Even now he is changing lives of cancer patients by making small contributions from whatever he earns by giving inspirational talks. Mr Suresh shows us the best of humanity and has in-spired many of his peers and the entire department at large

“Next to creating a life, the finest thing a human being

can do is save one”

Mr. Suresh Verma
