EHCPLAN
Independent Support is impartial and designed to help you understand the new EHC planning process.
Changes to the Children and Families Act 2014 in September 2014, means there are changes to how children with special educational needs and disabilities now receive support.
Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN) will be replaced with Education, Health and Care plans (EHC).
An EHC plan brings a child or young person’s education, health and social care needs into one single, legal document.
These plans will have a bigger focus on future aspirations to help children and young people achieve their goals.
To help you navigate your way through the new EHC assessment and planning process, trained Independent Supporters are now available.

EHCPLAN
Independent Support offers impartial information for young people with SEN and their parents and carers who are:
• Going through a statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment and are in the process of developing the EHC Plan
• Transitioning from a statement of SEN to an EHC Plan
The service is available to children, young people and adults aged between 0 – 25 years. Inspira will provide support to young people from year 9 upwards; Cumbria Parent Partnership will focus on young people and children from 0 to 13 years.
