EVALUATION

I have really enjoyed the last semster, getting involved in the projects and trying to also include some indendent practice within them. I like to explore the different ways to look at an idea, which leads me to working beyond the brief and producing more ideas/ concepts. I really liked my packaging idea for Time and Motion, as this was an idea which popped into my head after a tutorial. This was to create ideas around the brief which interest me personnally, which is “Packaging”. After thinking about words and imagery around the topic “Time and Motion” it lead me to producing a metronome shaped packaging with the name “Rhythm”. The door of the metronome opens and then closes with a magnet. I really liked the concept of this idea and hopefully I can produce more like this, using other briefs.

I love printing. Since I started at Epsom, I have found a love of printing, simply due to the fact that it produces such unqiue and experessive outcomes. These can then be used on their own or maniuplated later on, printing opens may doors to an idea, that you werent expecting. Also, its not just the printing that is interesting, looking deeper into the print itself really opens your eyes of how beautiful a print can be.

The photography I did, amazed me, as I havent really liked photogrpahy and when my isster suggested you should do this, I wasnt very convineced. She then helped me to produce the photos using a digital SLR and they came out really well. Although im not very confident with photography I thought i would give it a go as it fits quite nicely into the “Time and Motion” brief.

Overall, my independent practice I feel has made a bit more aware of the possiblities out there, to help you in designing. However, due to time and work etc, it is difficult to find time to do more independent practice on top of the project itself. This I will have to plan in future around my work and studies. I feel that If I broaded my independent studies then my work will become more varied and interesting in the long run.
