Where Arts Council England varies frommany other funding bodies is that it

Offers grants instead of loans

Grants are given to individuals ratherthan production companies

The Arts Council is not just for film,other art forms can benefit such as

dance, fine art and theatre

Creative EnglandFollowing the announcement of the

abolition of the UK Film Council in July 2010, the Government confirmed continued

support for the film and media industry outside of London. The agencies have since been working with DCMS to decide on the best structure of this support, in order to

secure a strong future for the UK’s creative industries.

Reforms to the Video RecordingsAct 1984

There is currently a petition underway toreform the VRA, this reform would allowself funded and independent filmmakers tomake money from their own films by opting

for the voluntary 18 certificate

Currently the BBFC charges between £615and £730 to certify a film. Opting for the voluntary 18 certificate would takethat cost out of producing independent films, allowing small time productions to

sell and market their own wares
