IEC becomes important sponsor of SkillsUSA KY

Over this past year, much effort has gone into developing model partnerships

with business and industry. Why? To cultivate and strengthen avenues for

business & industry to see the very best of talent in the pipeline; and, for

SkillsUSA KY competitors to choose from a variety of career pathways in the

trade area of their choice.

For the first time, a mutually beneficial partnership was developed when

SkillsUSA KY business and industry director Fran Dundon met with Dan Endris,

Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc. executive director for Kentucky and

Southern Indiana. As a result, Endris offered prize and scholarship support for

SkillsUSA KY competitions in electrical construction wiring, internetworking and

industrial motor control. SkillsUSA KY named IEC as a new member of its

Power Partners program and Dan Endris as a SkillsUSA KY Power Player. Their

support greatly benefitted members in three SkillsUSA KY competitive events.

According to the IEC website ( http://www.iec-kyin.com/ ), “The Independent

Electrical Contractors Association of Kentucky and Southern Indiana is a local

chapter of the National IEC… IEC of Kentucky and Southern Indiana is an

approved education provider for Kentucky electrical license continuing

education. Over its 35 year history, IEC has proven to be a leader in electrical

education. With 230 apprentice electricians currently enrolled in the local

training program, over 1000 people enrolled in IEC continuing education

programs each year, and a full-time Safety Director on staff, IEC of Kentucky and

Southern Indiana sets the standard for electrical education.”

Dan Endris

Exec. Director

IEC:

“The opportunity to link

up with the participants of

SkillsUSA KY was a

blessing. The IEC of

Kentucky & Southern

Indiana is pleased to

connect with these

professional, talented and

skilled trades persons. They

truly are the future of the

Commonwealth of Kentucky

and our industry."

Hughes Jones Harrodsburg ATC:

“Dustin Stewart, our first place winner,

has worked very hard to accomplish all his

goals. He has served as a state officer,

gone through leadership training and now

won gold for his skill. And, this trip to the

national competition is the icing on the

cake.

“We would like to thank Dan Endris and

the IEC for the tool donations made to the

winners and for the $250 travel

scholarship to help defray the cost of

sending Dustin to nationals. This kind of

support relays to all of us that we are

important and that connections have been

made for the benefit of our students.

“The doors that have been opened for

my students through SkillsUSA KY and the

work our business and industry director

Fran Dundon has done are second to

none. Thank you.”

“SkillsUSA has allowed our

nontraditional students to

showcase their abilities and

leadership skills through state

and national competitions. It

speaks volumes to the

dedication and hard work found

within the SkillsUSA

organization. Students have the

chance to bring the classroom

alive and showcase the

craftsmanship of the technical

trades.

“We thank IEC and Dan

Endris for their outstanding

support of Electrical

our SkillsUSA KY Internetworking state winner Zachary

Louden. Because of you, the financial burden of sending

Zachary to the National Competition is lessened. With your

donation, SkillsUSA can continue to serve our students

pursuing a career in computer networking and provide them

with an experience that will enrich their learning experience.

“Thank you again for your investment in SkillsUSA, and

your belief that our students deserve the opportunity to pursue their career goals.”

Brittany Skidmore, 3rd place Internetworking

“Thanks to the gracious donation of prizes from IEC, I now have many

of the tools to help prepare me for a career in network administration!”

Brett Thompson, Instructor

“It’s nice to see IEC recognize the hard work that our students put

forth to compete at the state level. Partnerships like this not only

reward our medalists, but also rewards those who support our

students by creating an awareness for the need of highly skilled, highly

motivated future employees – and, our students equate the SkillsUSA

championships with an opportunity to choose a career pathway. Thank you.”

“As I speak with Chris about going to the National

SkillsUSA conference, he is so excited to have an

opportunity to compete. He showed me the great

prizes he had won and couldn’t stop talking about the

great time he had at the SkillsUSA KY State

Conference.

“All of my instructors and I are so thankful for the

great sponsors who gave the prizes and travel funds.

It’s means so much to all of us at the local level.

“Chris works at the local Subway to support himself

and these gifts boosted him financially as well. Thank

you IEC and Dan Endris.”

Fran Dundon

SkillsUSA KY Business & Industry Director:

“We have all taken notice of IEC as one of our newest sponsors of SkillsUSA KY.

The willingness of Dan Endris and his organization to sponsor three events is an

outstanding testament to the value they place on SkillsUSA.

“After meeting with Dan Endris and explaining SkillsUSA KY, he set into motion a

$1,000 IEC donation, prizes for all medalists in the electrical construction wiring,

internetworking and industrial motor control competitions, and a $250 travel

scholarship for each gold medalist to help pay expenses to the national conference.

WOW – what a way to show support for our secondary and postsecondary SkillsUSA

KY members. We thank him for going the extra mile.

“AND, it is important to note that Mary Taylor, OCTE’s training and development

specialist and coordinator of the TRACK (Tech Ready Apprentices for Careers in KY)

Program, is working with IEC on a statewide agreement to develop a pre-

apprenticeship pipeline of secondary students into IEC’s electrical program.

“This all points to the value of connecting dots through fantastic partnership

efforts where everyone is a winner. Thank you and good luck to all of our winners –

Bring home the GOLD!”
