STEP I : FEEL

There are a lot of problems in India. But the one that troubled us the most, was the lack of quality education for so many children.

To further understand these problems we went out into the city to visit different types of schools.

Of the several schools we visited, the SIRAGU, left a huge impression on us.

SIRAGU WHAT IS SIRAGU? - SIRAGU is a school near IAF

Avadi, in Chennai - that educates street children free of cost. We realised, that the children of Siragu School needed some basic necessities and assistance.

We spoke to the Trustee of the school, Ms.Uma Muthuram and took over the problems of Siragu as a challenge.

We shall tell you why we chose ‘Siragu’

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO FOR THESE CHILDREN ?

Page 5: Ind eng-494-ppt

We discussed our strategy with our mentor teacher and many ideas came out such as:

Donating Books, Past Question Papers and Sports items for the students of SIRAGU.

Inviting SIRAGU Children to our school to interact and also provide access to the school’s library and lab facilities

By facilitating their Grade X Students in English and Science to prepare for their ensuing exams.

Ensuring continuous support We decided to execute all these ideas through a

collaboration between our school and Siragu school.

We organized meetings with the Siragu students to interact with us.

Organized Special Classes for Language and Science Distributed Books, Past Question Papers, Play items and

Garments. Invited Siragu Children to our school to interact and also

to use library and lab facilities We, as students incorporated the ideas of MDG’s goals

such as eradicating poverty, achieving universal primary education

We learnt the value of collaboration, listening, caring and sharing.

And we learnt that there is nothing more powerful than to use one’s abilities for the good of others.

We realized that Service to Mankind is Service to God and that Serving Hands are better than Praying lips.

We thought, we were going to ‘change’ others’ lives, but we were transformed by this experience.

We learnt the value of collaboration, listening, sharing and caring.

Also, we learnt that there is nothing more powerful, than to use one’s abilities for the well-being of others.

“We would now, like to take partnership with SIRAGU

school , continuously with consistency.” - Mrs. POONAM KAUSHAL

Co-ordinator, Cambridge stream

“After we visited Siragu, we were deeply touched. We told all our friends and relatives, about the school and now, they have started donating along with our school.”

- Students of Class VII Cambridge stream

Kriti's perspective about many situations has changed, she is more

inquisitive and contemplates problems from all sides. She is aware that life is what we make it out to be, as the kids at Siragu have turned around dreadful situations to positive ones.
