A much needed change

In our town Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh there is a severe problem of blockage of drains due to plastic covers causing great inconvenience to the people.

FEEL

Page 4: Ind eng-078-ppt

we had a look around our city and found water stagnated at many places.

We found a few drains near our school overflowing with plastic garbage.

Page 5: Ind eng-078-ppt

IMAGINE•We discussed how plastic covers are causing a havoc. In fact we shared experiences about problems which we faced during the last year’s flash floods.•We thought to bring about a change in usage of covers.• Public awareness song.•Public awareness rally.•Class on ethnic bags.•Distributing of pamphlets to the public.•Dumping the plastic covers in a safe way.•Recycling of plastics.•Documentary on bad effects of plastics.•Display on notice board about the facts of plastics decomposition.•Distribution of handmade bags.

Page 6: Ind eng-078-ppt

We finally decided to bring about an awareness programme in our school in particular and public in general.

Why Awareness Rally?

DO

So we Did:I. At our school front:• We showed ppt presentation. Polythene covers were still being used in our school.

Page 8: Ind eng-078-ppt

• If polythene is not to be used. What then?• We converted our craft class as temporary workshop of making cloth bags from used dresses.• In a day we made bags of various size like pencil pouch, Money purse, Hand bag, Vegetable bag, Grocery bag, Fancy fashionable bag etc.• We put them all for display for our friends to see and get inspiration.

• Next day many got cloth bags, just to show us.

Page 9: Ind eng-078-ppt

II. Took out a huge rally from our school to the collectorate office with placards & slogans and our handmade bags.

Page 10: Ind eng-078-ppt

III. We sang a song in our regional language about the ill effects of polythene usage(at Montessori Radio)

Page 11: Ind eng-078-ppt

Students were advised to use hand made cloth bags instead of plastic covers.

Few bags were prepared by students.

POLLUTION -NEW TYPES OF VIRUSES & DISEASESDEVASTATION & DESTRUCTIONWhy all this? Is it wrath of angels or Man made

calamity? You know better. We in our pursuit of pleasure and convenience have played or playing a deadly game with Mother Nature, disturbing the Ecological balance

Plastic is aberration, which is a non-bio degradable and toxic pollutant that plays havoc with Mother Nature. Among all plastic products plastic disposables like Covers & Water glasses are most dangerous as they are used more and discarded in open. Of course they are very convenient and clean but what about the destruction of the ecological balance that is in place for millions of years. Lets’ ban Plastic from our lives or at least plastic covers and disposable glasses.

We Montessorians have come together to bring awareness among parents and public, in general about the hazards of plastic and motivate them to use the cloth and paper covers, instead. Students are encouraged to make cloth bags with unusable old clothes and jute bags. Students are encouraged to show their creativity and genius in making cloth bags. Hope you too would too do the same and shun plastics.Let us together make Kurnool Plastic Free.Show concern today for cleaner and greener environment.Plastic Mischief on Environment.Plastic covers are non-bio degradable and remain intact for hundreds of years. They choke the earth surface making soil unfertile and pollute the ground water too.Plastic covers block and choke sewer pipes, drains causing urban flooding during heavy rains.

Discarded plastic covers get water filled and become breeding place for mosquitoes, which in turn spread diseases like brain fever and malaria.Plastic on burning releases harmful gases like CO & CO2 and toxic emissions into the atmosphere, thus polluting the air.Food items packed in plastic covers causes Cancer as they are carcinogens.Discarded plastic covers when consumed unknowingly by stray cattle cause their death.Carry a cloth bag when you go shopping. Get traditional and use paper bags.

IT’S TIME TO AWAKEN TO THE GLOBAL REALITY AND INCREASE

OUR LIFE SPAN

SAY ‘NO’ TO PLASTIC AND ‘YES’ TO HEALTH.

CURB PLASTIC MENACE AND CONTINUE TO LIVE LONGER.

MAKE KURNOOL PLASTIC FREE ZONE.LET’S GO GREEN AND BAN PLASTIC.

CURB PLASTIC & CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.

Distributed pamphlets.

Change is always for better. In our school we brought a change and also desired for a similar change in our Kurnool town.•For this our rally spread a word among the common public.•Through our message song we reached the uneducated too.•Hand outs also helped in this “change” for better.

From Principal / ParentThe activity has brought a minor change in behavior of students.

At the same time, ban imposed by local politicians on plastic covers, also helped people around us to reduce using them in day to day life.

Most of the people in our town are now switching on to hand made bags and have reduced usage of plastic bags.

Head Mistress.
