IGTR is Launching its Incubation Services3-Days Start-up Bootcamp @ Indo-German Tool Room (IGTR), Aurangabad
26-28 April 2017
Start-up Bootcamp
Technology Start-ups (Hardware & Software), Final Year Students with
Entrepreneurial Spirit, Existing Enterprises
The Programme
Target Group:
Technology has changed our lives drastically.
Tablets, mobile phones, social platforms are
results of revolutionary innovations developed by
visionary innovators, some of them from start-ups
who have grown to multinational companies such
as Facebook. Incubators play an important role for
start-ups to support their growth, provide advisory
as well as access to technologies, mentors,
investors, etc. Aurangabad has been a striving
industry hub, especially for the auto-component
sector, with approx. 1220-1500 SMEs, excellent
colleges as well as few OEMs such as Bajaj Auto,
SKODA, etc.; thus providing high potential for
new start-ups.
Given the importance of start-ups for industrial
and economic growth, Indo-German Tool Room is
launching its incubation services with a 3-day
Start-up bootcamp. If you already have an idea in
the technology domain or if you are working on
your venture or are looking to diversify your
product / business model, join the bootcamp to
refine your idea with the help of tools such as
design thinking and business modeling.
International and national experts will evaluate
your product and your business model and will
give you valuable inputs.
If you do not have an idea yet, but the
entrepreneurial spirit to found your own venture,
Background:
industrial leaders will present their challenges on
the first day which you could take up to develop
your own idea/venture or to gain practical
experience of solving real industrial problems.
Some of the project ideas given by the industry are
described in this brochure. You can choose one of
them to apply for the bootcamp. The bootcamp
will help you to do your first steps and to think
strategically about your idea with the help of the
design thinking and business modeling method.
The participants of the bootcamp will have access
to IGTR's state of-the-art facilities including
sophisticated machines such as CNC Milling,
EDM & Wire Cut machines, 3D scanning and
printing as well as access to its experts in areas
such as Design, Enterprise Development, Project
Management, etc.
The best idea/venture will also get the chance to
further work on their idea/venture with support of
industry leaders and IGTR!
Apply now! Last date to submit your application is
the 5th April 2017. Participation in Design
Thinking and Business Modelling workshop is
limited to a maximum of 20 participants.

Project Ideas
If you already have an idea /working on your project, please
let us know more details about your idea in the registration
form. If you do not already have your own venture idea, please
indicate in the application form which of the following project
ideas you would like to further explore during the bootcamp
and consequently work on. The project ideas will be pitched in
full to you during the reverse pitch. Please regularly check the
following link as we will update more project ideas collected

The company is producing sheet metal and fabrication parts for the automobile sectors. Their fabrication processes include blanking, piercing, forming by using the latest progressive tooling and machines. The company is using 80 to 700 tonnage presses.
Major rejection in sheet metal parts is happening because of dents/scratches and other visual defects. In almost all sheet metal industries, a lot of resources are spent on visual inspection of parts at the final inspection table. In order decrease visual inspection and thus avoid quality issues, the company is looking for someone who could develop an automatic camera system which is able to check all the parts visually in an auto mode. The system shall be able to catch burrs, scratch marks and dents on the surface and reject parts that do not comply with the quality standards of the company.
Design and development of automatic visual inspection system for sheet metal parts like magnet case, etc.
The company is primarily operating into sheet rolling and slitting. As per the requirement of the industry, sheet is rolled in various sizes (thickness and width) by using rolling mills. The company is having two rolling mills and is producing different sizes of sheet for many sheet metal industries.
Before sending the metal strip though a rolling mill, it has to be cleaned. For the cleaning purpose it is passing through a horizontal chamber filled with an acidic cleaning agent. This acidic cleaning agent is circulated through a heat exchanger as the acid has to be heated to a temperature of around 60 degree to properly function. The company is currently running an outside heat exchanger for the heating, however, this solution is very costly as they generate the heat by creating steam in a boiler which is then passed through heat exchanger with the help of a motor. The company is therefore looking for someone who could develop a cheaper method to heat up the acidic solution. This can be achieved by designing and developing a heater which can be placed directly in the acid tank.

The company is producing sheet metal and fabrication parts for the automobile sectors. Their fabrication processes include blanking, piercing, forming by using the latest progressive tooling and machines. The company is using 80 to 700 tonnage presses.
The company is also producing different types of brackets which have multiple holes in it. As per design requirement of the customer these holes should not have any presence of burr/chips. However, due to limitations in the punching process small projections are being generated. To remove these projections or burrs from the bracket holes, the company is having ten manual machines to remove the burrs from the holes one by one. This operation is very time and resource consuming as multiple machines with operators have to run at the same time to meet the production requirements for these burr free parts. The company is therefore looking for someone who could design and develop an automatic multi chamfering tool/machine.
Design and development of automatic multi chamfering tool/machine
The company is manufacturing clutches and other 2&3 wheeler sheet metal parts for companies such as Bajaj Auto, Endurance and many more customers. These parts are produced by integrating stamping, punching, forming and blanking processes which are carried out on multiple presses.
Generally, the parts loading and unloading on the sheet metal presses are done manually which sometimes results in injuries to the operator's hand. Due to manual loading and unloading, the overall productivity is decreased. In all developed nations, this material transfer and loading/unloading of parts are done by robots which are however too costly for Indian SMEs. The company is therefore looking for someone who could design and develop a low cost solution for automatic loading and unloading of parts as well as for material transfer from one press to another.

The company is a transformer manufacturing company. It manufactures different types and sizes of transformers, starting from design of the transformer component to the assembly and testing. The testing of the transformer is done by 'Set on Site Electricals' itself.
Currently, all the transformer components design calculation is done manually. On the basis of input and output parameters, coil size, number of turns of wire, wire diameters and other parameters calculation is done manually. The company is therefore looking for someone who could develop a software which after entering input and output parameters is calculating all major components design automatically. The calculation algorithms can be developed by analyzing the manual calculation method. The software would help 'Set on Site Electricals' to design error proof components which would lead to a decrease in rejection and rework substantially.

What kind of support are you looking for from the bootcamp:
What do you expect from bootcamp?
The company is an auto parts manufacturing tier-2 company which is mainly involved in manufacturing tubular suspension parts. Main manufacturing processes include tube cutting, machining, stamping and welding.
Traditionally, long length steel tubes are stored on racks consisting of multiple levels. In the case of the company the tubes are currently stored on racks with two or three levels of storage. The tubes have a length of 6m. The tubes are lifted with an overhead crane. Retrieving material from lower racks necessitates the movement of material on upper level and takes a lot of time and requires additional space to temporarily store material. The company is therefore looking for someone who could design and develop a material handling system which could replace the traditional rack system for material storage and retrieval.
Design and development of an auto material storage and handling system to improve material storage and in-house material handling (long tubes)
The company is manufacturing metal components made of tube & sheet metal for the auto component sector. This includes machining, press & fabrication processes along with various surface coatings.
In the company, 30-35% of manpower is involved in the quality inspection of the parts. For a few parameters of the parts, 100% visual inspection is done as these parts are of critical nature. Some of those parameters include total length of part, presence of welding tag, threading, surface defects, etc. Besides this intensive effort, some defect parts are passed on to the customer. The company is therefore looking for someone who could develop an automated solution which will reduce the manual intervention. Visual inspection using image processing is one possibility the company has tried in previous attempts using DC motors. The proposed solution should work for mass inspection and most importantly should be cost effective.
