YEARNING FOR SEPHARADThe Jewish presence in Sepharad, the Hebrew name for Spain, was written over a period of no less than 1.500 years. The Sephardim are the descendants of the Spanish-Portuguese Jews who lived in this region until 1492, when the Catholic Kings decreed their expulsion. After this dramatic event, the Sephardim retained their Judeo-Spanish language, Ladino, the customs of “Espania”, but more than anything, the love for their old home (the second after Israel). It is said that some families still keep the keys to the homes of their ancestors who were once forced to leave Toledo, Seville and Cordoba. Many things were lost forever after the expulsion, but many others have remained. Without the Sephardic culture, the whole of Western history would be different. Sepharad reminds us of the time when men and women lived together while practicing different religions (Jewish, Christian and Muslim), thus, setting an example of goodwill and harmony for the world.

> Days 3-5: Logroño - Calahorra - Tudela - Tarazona Visit of a traditional winery that since 1924 makes wine in La Rioja. We will make a guided tour in 4x4 vehicles and enjoy a picnic-lunch in one of the vineyards.

During these days we will visit the Jewish quarters of Calahorra, Tudela and Tarazona. The Jewish quarters of these cities serve to understand the complex history of the Sephardim in the Iberian Peninsula, who lived with the subjects of the other two confessions: Catholics and Muslims.

The buildings that remain today are posterior to the reconstruction of Tarazona at the end of the 14th Century. In fact, two different quarters can be distinguished: the Judería Vieja, or old quarter, and the Judería Nueva, that is, the extension of the old Jewish quarter in the 15th. century. After lunch, continuation to TUDELA.The town of Tudela was founded by the Romans on Celt-Iberian settlements. Since then the town has been inhabited continuously. The city was later taken under the Muslim emirate of Al-Hakam I in 802 by Amrus ibn Yusuf al-Muwalad.Dinner and accomodation in Tudela.

After a delicious Andalusian lunch at the Jaen’s Parador, we will head up to Sefarad’s Pearl: Lucena. For the end of the day we will have the chance to listen, just for us, the Elí Hoshaná Lucena’s City Choir, the only choir in Spain singing, a Capella, Sephardic music.

SEVILLA Historical and musical tour. A new experience that puts together the history of the last Jewish quarter in Seville with live Sephardic music and Flamenco while we walk the streets.
