SOCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT
The 1986 season was again f i n a l l y successful w i t h good support from most players and supporters. While we have our "Loyal Band" who attended each f u n c t i o n throughout the season we have these few who aren't i n t e r e s t e d i n g i v i n g t h e i r support, the former by f a r exceeds the l a t t e r .
Our "Home Catering" functions were the biggest fund r a i s e r s but of course without our small group of w i l l i n g workers these nights would not have been possible, a b i g thanks to a l l those people f o r t h e i r u n t i r i n g work, donations of f r o d and l o y a l support.
Once again the s o c i a l committee has t r i e d to give a " v a r i e t y of fu n c t i o n s " and hop e f u l l y , they have s u i t e d the m a j o r i t y and l e t us hope 1987 w i l l have the e n t h u s i a s t i c support of t h i s years players and maybe some new ideas may help t o make :iext years s o c i a l events even b e t t e r ,

TREASURERS REPORT Q
The year has gone, we have seen some l i g h t at the end of the tunnel and made some progress.
Bearing i n mind some contra e n t r i e s the Club -generated income i n excess of $58,000 however expenses t o t a l l e d $57,000 leaving a surplus of $1,190, t h i s r e s u l t being achieved by a dedicated Committee, the lad i e s of the canteen and the Social Club.
During the year we made c a p i t a l purchases of the Ice Machine, 2nd hand r e f r i g e r a t o r and a new Siren Timer w h i l s t reducing the outstanding debt on the Clubhouse by $4,600 from $23,600 to $19,000 but there i s s t i l l a long way to go.
Congratulations to our Reserve Grade side, a great team r e s u l t . Funds t o t a l l i n g $400 were allo c a t e d as a bonus w h i l s t $480 has been a l l o c a t e d f o r t h e i r winning t r o p h i e s . P r o v i s i o n of $750 was also made t o cover the refund of Players costs to the Club's P r e s e n t a t i o n n i g h t which i n fa c t gives them a seasons f o o t b a l l f o r $15.
Our sponsors have been acknowledge seperately but i t would be remiss not to s p e c i f i c a l l y mention Nihal Gupta -Palsonic, A l l a n & John Reid - Bangor Tavern, Col Rogan -Caringbah Inn - Shelleys and Bob Briggs - Carlton United, se-:"- The increased f u n d i i ' ^ from these sponsors was raised s p e c i f i c a l l y t o cover the players match payments and i t i s rnos t . d i s t u r b i n g the a t t i t u d e of some members who d e l i b e r a t e l y r e f r a i n e d from supporting the Club's s o c i a l events and r a f f l e s because they f e l t they were c o n t r i b u t i n g towards these payments, how wrong and a s e l f i s h a t t i t u d e and t o those who expected payment from the Club and contributed nothing the same a p p l i e s .
To those who have supported and helped thank you, we would not have survived without you, funds raised and the f i n a n c i a l r e s u l t s speak f o r themselves.
The amount of funds needed to keep the Club a f l o a t i s approximately $60,000, t h i s cannot continue to be l e f t t o a few to r a i s e and unless there i s more involvement and co-operation i t w i l l be so easy to s l i p back i n t o the f i n a n c i a l darkness of the past two years, the r o l e i s now yours, the members/players, some Club pride , s p i r i t and involvement.

COACH'S REPORT - ISt GRADE
Congratulations to Er i c and his reserves side on t h e i r premiership win and to a l l trophy winners e s p e c i a l l y the best and f a i r e s t .
I n January, i t seemed i t could be our year, we had only l o s t three players from 1985 and had picked up two. However, t h i n g s q u i c k l y changed and we l o s t f i v e other ' players f o r va r y i n g reasons, and wi t h the Swans drawing on our players p l u s bad i n j u r i e s early i n the season to Wayne Cope and David Wadling our side had changed considerably.
With these circumstances p r e v a i l i n g , our depth was severely tested throughout the season f o u r t y one (41) players were played.
Even w i t h a l l these f a c t o r s against us we had l i t t l e t r o u b l e beating the lesser sides but i n the three pressure games we folded showing up some g l a r i n g weaknesses.
However,, toward the end of ̂ ^ esecpmV ro1un!d.; -it.- rS.eemed to be^-slowly coming together agaia,.^ p i c k i n g up Bubba- Howard, John Evans:.and Andrew S i d o l i , and our i n j u r i e s were slowly reducing. I n the end i n j u r i e s took some t o l l w i t h Andrew M i l l i c a n , Bredan Cope and Steve Harper on the s i d e l i n e s , and the early c a s u a l t i e s on f i n a l s day of Tony Quinn and Andrew S i d o l i .
A l l t h i s aside we had op p o r t u n i t i e s early i n the f i n a l t o have a s u b s t a n t i a l lead but bad f i n i s h i n g and lack of b a l l possession from centre bounces cost us dearly.
With possession ending i n our favour we shouldn't have been no comprehensively beaten.

As coach, I accept the r e s p o n s a b i l i t y f o r our poor performances e s p e c i a l l y i n our f a i l u r e i n committment and f i n i s h i n g . . . .
There have been some p o s i t i v e aspects over the l a s t two years, f o r example we l o s t only seven (7) of our games over the l a s t two seasons,,winning twenty seven (27) and one (1) draw and have beaten every side at least one.
I f the club can maintain the bulk of the present team i t should form a sound base f o r the f u t u r e and provided several key experienced players were r e c r u i t e d , the team could move up that extra two or three places and . win a 1st grade premiership.
My special thanks are extended to the f o l l o w i n g people who have supported me over the past two (2) years.
F i r s t l y , t o the most important group.of people, the players who have played 1st grade, and supported the side.
I t was a great pleasure to me and hope we both gained from the experience, "Good Luck" to you a l l i n your f u t u r e f o o t b a l l .
To our club selectors Ray Brennan and Peter Taylor f o r a l l those hours spent t r a i n i n g and "match" days. Pat McCourt, the team runner, who ran marathon distances throughout the seasons. Team managers, B i l l Tegg and David Travers, t r a i n e r s Dennis, Bob, N e v i l l e and t h e i r helpers f o r the professional way they c a r r i e d out t h e i r d u t i e s . Bob Leedow's videos of a l l our games was very important t o us and p u t t i n g up w i t h a l l those budding Lou Richards' a i n ' t easy, great work Bob.
My f e l l o w coaches E r i c and Noel gave me support w i t h players and t h e i r suggestions were always welcome.
To N e v i l l e Shaw, Committee Members and the l a d i e s committee f o r t h e i r assistance over the p e r i o d w i t h special mention of Bob McConnell and Greg Mclver f o r t h e i r help i n marking the new players f e e l so welcome.
F i n a l l y , my thoughts are towards the f u t u r e of the club. Apart from r e c r u i t i n g I f e e l our o f f i c i a l s should be more a c t i v e l y supportive of our f o o t b a l l e r s , and t h e i r needs, but players too must understand the aims of our o f f i c i a l s . I n one word "Communication". I'm sure t h i s would make f o r a stronger club on and o f f the f i e l d and would c e r t a i n l y create a more p o s i t i v e a t t i t u d e f o r a l l .

SECRETARY'S REPORT
I am pleased to present f o r your c o n s i d e r a t i o n and endorsement, the 58th Annual Report and F i n a n c i a l Statement f o r Season 1986.
I t has been a very successful year i n many ways. Our teams i n three grades made t h e ' f i n a l s w i t h the honors going to the Reserve Grade side, coached by E r i c Taylor who won the Premiership by beating an undefeated North Shore team. I t i s i n t e r e s t i n g to note t h a t our l a s t premiership i n Reserves was i n 1978 when A l l a n Taylor ( E r i c ' s b r o t h e r ) coached the side and t h a t A l l a n also Captained the 1986 Premiership team i n h i s r e t i r i n g match.
Our f i r s t grade side was plaqued w i t h i n j u r i e s throughout the season and d i d w e l l to f i n i s h i n the f i n a l f o u r .
The under 19's side also d i d w e l l despite the loss of some players, promoted to the senior ranks.
The new club rooms are proving to be a very valuable vas_set to the c l u b c r e a t i n g an e x c e l l e n t s o c i a l venue a f t e r our Sunday matches e s p e c i a l l y those played at Olds Park, and plays an important p a r t i n our Fund-raising a c t i v i t i e s .
Your e l e c t e d committee had yet another busy year w i t h special a t t e n t i o n given to the i n c o r p o r a t i o n of the Club which was necessary f o r the p r o t e c t i o n of the members. We must thank the c o n s t i t u t i o n sub-committee f o r t h e i r e f f o r t s i n developing the new rules and c o n s t i t u t i o n of the club.
Since our l a s t Annual General Meeting, 19 Committee Meetings were hel d a t Olds Park and l i s t e d below are the attendance records of the Committee members.

A l l three grades have had a successful season, each q u a l i f y i n g f o r the f i n a l s , however, the honors must go to the Reserve Grade side, coached by Eric Taylor, who overcame the undefeated North Shore team i n the Grand F i n a l to take the Premiership, c o n g r a t u l a t i o n s t o E r i c , the t r a i n e r s and a l l who helped t o get our teams on the f i e l d .
Sponsors play an important p a r t i n the finances of the Club, h e l p i n g to pay coaches and players w i t h the donation of awards throughout the season. Special mention i s made of our major sponsors, Nihal Gupta of Palsonic, Col Rogan of Caringbah Inn and A l l a n Reid of Bangor Tavern and C e l l a r s , we are hopeful of t h e i r continued support.
During the l a t t e r p a r t of the season some players and coaches expressed t h e i r view t h a t the committee should be g i v i n g them more a t t e n t i o n . Let me assume a l l members of the club t h a t communication must be on a two-way basis, the committee are always ready t o discuss any ideas or suggestions t h a t would be b e n e f i c i a l to the Club.

COACH'S REPORT - RESERVE GRADE
F i n a l l y , we know what i t f e e l s l i k e t o be a WINNER, winners are the only ones remembered and through a l o t of hard work, a b i t of guts and d i s c i p l i n e , heaps of sweat, we d i d i t .
Most players had never experienced the f e e l i n g of being a member of a premiership team at senior l e v e l and I know myself I w i l l always remember the pats on the back, the presentations, the v i c t o r y lap, the.dressing room scenes, our club on the Sunday n i g h t , the pub on the Monday, we a l l l e a r n t how to sing, the smiles said i t a l l .
F orty seven players were used i n Reserve Grade during the season and we had t h i r t y players i n our squad at the Grand F i n a l , t h i s was a t e l l i n g f a c t o r i n the end as we had many players t o choose from. I thank the players who were there a l l the way but due to the depth i n our squad many had to miss out i n being i n the f i n a l twenty, I know how heart breaking i t was not to be i n the Grand F i n a l Team but these players were there encouraging and urging our team to v i c t o r y .
A l l players contributed throughout the year and t h a t s why North Shore was the only team to defeat us. Games against Pennant H i l l s , Campbelltown and Balmain when we had to show a b i t of character, team s p i r i t and fight-back are prime examples th a t so many players gave t h e i r a l l .
A l l the t r a i n i n g paid o f f , the laps i f you missed t r a i n i n g , the extra i f you were l a t e , a l l the s i t ups, push ups and s w i r l s , the m i l l i o n s of s h u t t l e runs, the s p r i n t s up the h i l l were a l l worthwhile. Players were w i l l i n g to do the hard work "or made t o " because throughout the year we know i f we stuck t o our p a t t e r n we could do i t . I f we c o n t r o l l e d our agression, when we had t o , l e a r n t how t o win when the chips were down and showed a b i t of character as a team we could take the f l a g . A l l e n and dale were the leaders throughout the year and at d i f f e r e n t times others f i l l e d the captaincy r o l e s . To everyone's c r e d i t we worked as a u n i t at t r a i n i n g , and on Sunday, because we were a l l working together f o r t h e f l a g .
To Greg, the t r a i n e r s (boy d i d they get some work) and anyone else who cont r i b u t e d to put the team on the paddock I thank you. To N e v i l l e , Bob Leedow and the rest of the committee I know our v i c t o r y makes t h e i r work worthwhile.
To my wife Susan who had to make adjustments to her r o u t i n e constantly to accommodate my involvement i n f o o t b a l l and to a l l y the other f a m i l i e s who had t o take second f i d d l e t o f o o t b a l l I thank and know th a t everyone remembers a WINNER I know a l l the s a c r i f i c e was worthwhile.
As I bow out of the St George A u s t r a l i a n Football Club a f t e r ten years, I acknowledge a l l the people that I can experiences we enjoyed as a club.
F i n a l l y , I personally thank the members of the 1986 Reserve Grade Premiership team f o r the tremendous experience o f being coach of a WINNING TEAM.

While a few members were not agreeable e a r l i e r i n the year to being incorporated, your committee considered i t necessary f o r the f u t u r e p r o t e c t i o n and well-being of the club and i t s members.
I wish to thank my committee f o r t h e i r support t h i s season. Few people r e a l i s e the work they have done t o put t h i s club i n t o a much sounder f i n a n c i a l p o s i t i o n .
Special mention should be made of those who worked t i r e l e s s l y f o r the success of the c l u b , to Treasurer, Ron Travers f o r h i s work on sponsorship and f i n a n c i a l management, Mavis Kemp, a s s i s t a n t Secretary and s p e c i a l e f f o r t s , the " C o n s t i t u t i o n Committee" comprising P h i l Shipp, Ron Travers, Jim and Trever Woods, Jim Woods also f i l l e d i n as •Secretary upon the r e s i g n a t i o n of Greg- Mclver at the l a t t e r end of the year due to pressure of business.
Thanks also to Bob Leedow, h i s award as "Clubman of the Year" was w e l l deserved, to the ladies who organised and worked hard f o r the s o c i a l events and i n the canteen, i n p a r t i c u l a r Anne Travers, Cath Taylor, Mavis Kemp, Cathy Quinn, Judy Shipp, Pam H a t f i e l d , Doreen Woods, E i l e e n Taylor, Judy Mclver, June Carinduff and Jan Shaw. To Jim Taylor and John Quinn f o r t h e i r work behind the bar on Friday n i g h t s and Sundays, Sue Harper, P u b l i c i t y O f f i c e r (when they p r i n t e d i t ) .
You can see my from comments so f a r t h a t i t takes a hard-working team " o f f the f i e l d , as w e l l as a hard-working team on the f i e l d " i n order to have a successful c l u b .
