connecting. building. celebrating.

thanks to you.connect

con•nect [kuh-nekt] verb (used used with object) 1) to join, link, or fasten together; 2) unite or bind: 3) to establish communication between; 4) to cause to be associated, as in a personal or business relationship: 5) to have as an accompanying or associated feature.

Though it can be overused, the word has a variety of dictionary definitions, any one of which can stand alone as our invitation for you to connect with us.

We would love to have you join us; be linked, fastened together and united with you in our Journey Home Campaign, as we seek to raise money during this tough economic time to ensure the vital services we provide are ongoing.

We eagerly want to establish communication between you and the work of the Coalition, to let you know about the many volunteer opportunities available to you, how valuable your time and talents are to us and how you can make a difference. We want to associate with you, both personally and through your business, and have a variety of ways to develop our relationship.

And finally, we invite you to associate with the realities of homelessness we see every day, especially in light of the many myths and misconceptions that exist. By connecting with the Coalition, you’ll see that together we can make a difference in the lives of our homeless neighbors in need.

So, please read on...the accompanying pages have a host of ways to connect.

you’ve been busy, central florida!take a look at your work:

sent hundreds of homeless kids back

to school

A good education can put homeless children on the path to a brighter future. Thanks to you, the Coalition’s kids are on that path.

You amazed us, yet again, at the annual Back 2 School Festival as you filled the Coalition with all the necessities – from backpacks to tennis shoes – to send our kids back to school!

Because of you, our school-aged kids have the supplies, clothing, and most importantly, confidence to shine this school year.

If you have heard about Taste of the Nation, then you know it is an exclusive, highly-anticipated foodie event that entices all of Central Florida.

What you may not know is how much the Coalition depends on your participation.

This year, you helped to raise nearly $250,000 to fight childhood hunger. It will literally feed thousands of homeless kids, and for that, we can’t thank you enough.

Through your continuous financial support, the dream of a Men’s Service Center is finally becoming a reality. Although it took a huge crane to actually lift the walls, you are the real muscles behind the project.

Because of you, homeless men – one of the most underserved segments of the homeless population – will soon receive the collection of services and tools necessary to return to independence.

One way to boost your charitable contributions this holiday season is to give shares of appreciated stock instead of cash. Coalition for the Homeless is happy to accept a gift of stock to benefit any of the programs, services, and/or for a commemorative naming right in our new Men’s Service Center. You may also donate stock to fund a charitable gift annuity.

A gift of stock allows you to deduct the shares’ fair market value and avoid income tax on the capital gain. Once your gift of stock has transferred, the Coalition will sell the shares and recognize the donor and any designation for the gift.

Probably the easiest method of achieving this type of gift is to notify your broker that you wish to transfer stock to the Coalition. Once notified of your intent to give, the Coalition will provide you and your broker with account information for the transfer.

If you would like to make your year-end gift with a gift of stock, please contact Lisa Hicks, Vice President of Philanthropy, at 407.872.5791.

One out of four residents at the Coalition is under the age of 18.

Thanks to our supporters, both those who give financially and those who give many hours of their time and talents, these homeless youngsters, nonetheless, have hope for a brighter future.

In fact, in spite of their current living situations, the Coalition’s kids have BIG goals. Check out these aspirations…

7 year-old Danny dreams of being an NFL player.7 year-old Boaz wants to be a pastor.9 year-old Dalilah would like to be a movie producer.9 year-old Derrick wants to be an NBA player.10 year-old Jamilah wants to be a veterinarian.12 year-old Kiana wants to be a nurse.
