What Movies Did We Do Textual Analysis’ of?
In order to know what codes and conventions to use or consider to use during our movie, we did several textual analysis’ on the following movies:
• Saw• Alien• Evil Dead 2• The Shining• Psycho• Dog Soldiers• Halloween 2
Codes & Concepts
From doing these textual analysis’ of the movies, we were able to assemble a list of common themes which were found in the movies that we had watched.
These codes and concepts and generally speaking, common themes found in the movies have aided us in the production of our own movie by giving us an indication of how we should be making the audience feel and the reaction we should be aiming to achieve.

The list we made includes:
• Road to nowhere• Darkness & Shadows• Low Key Lighting• Eerie Sounds• Montage Editing• PoV shots, Hand Held Camera, Reaction Shots• Isolation• Death, Contagion, Corruption, Plague etc.• Sudden Actions, Unsuspected Occurrences• Psychological Torture
What Concepts Did We Actually Implement?
Codes, Conventions & Themes that we actually implemented and used within out movie are:
• Darkness & Shadows• Low Key Lighting• Eerie Sounds• Montage Editing• PoV shots, Hand Held Camera• Isolation• Death, Contagion• Psychological Torture
So Do We Adhere to or Challenge the Codes & Conventions for our
Genre?
Due to following and using the codes and conventions which are usually found in horror/zombie movies, we adhere to the C&Cs.
There would be little point in challenging them for this style of movie as it would be incredibly difficult to create a zombie movie whilst challenging the usual C&Cs.
In Conclusion
To conclude, our group completed 7 textual analysis’ on the movies listed on slide 2.
These textual analysis then helped us create the list of C&C’s found on slide 4 which then helped us decide what C&C’s we were going to implement into our own movie as found on slide 5.
Due to using these C&C’s, we adhere to the stereotypes as explained on slide 6.
